Level -> Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 5:26:57 PM)

So what if the Rev. Jesse Jackson said he wants to “cut [Obama’s] nuts off”? Oh … they caught it on tape? Hmmm … that could be damaging. And he made some other, potentially racist comments? So … that can’t be good. And you say The O’Reilly Factor is going to air the comments on tonight’s broadcast? Huh … well, that could be quite terrible really.

"Cut his nuts off"?......... ow.

quote:

Sen. John McCain hasn't had good luck joking about Iran. But he tried it again Tuesday.

Responding to a question about a survey that shows increased exports to Iran, mainly from cigarettes, McCain said, "Maybe that's a way of killing them."

He quickly caught himself, saying "I meant that as a joke" as his wife, Cindy, poked him in the back.

Last time, it was also Iran. His singing about bombing Iran to the theme of the Beach Boy's "Barbara Ann" drew derision from many quarters but a "lighten up" response from McCain.

Can we expect better, or is it just human nature to say things we wish we could take back? If countless people were following you around with a mic all the time, would something "come out" eventually?

i thought McCains remark was quite funny, and not worth repeating.

Jacksons comment sounds a lot like sour grapes to me.

Mics pick up things people don't want heard - everyone has put their foot into said mouth. It doesn't  mean anything other than every so often the brain disconnects from the mouth circuit.

pahunkboy -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 5:37:45 PM)

jackson is a phony.   he had a radio show in the 60-70s ...he discredits many who try to make progress.

What he said, exactly, we won’t know until 8 p.m. EDT tonight, but Rev. Jesse Jackson is already very, very sorry for a “crude and hurtful” remark about Barack Obama that he made to a reporter Sunday when he didn’t realize a microphone was running.

In damage control mode, Jackson emphasized his support for Obama’s campaign as he distanced himself from comments that will air on Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor” this evening. (Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal.)

In a statement Jackson explained that his remark was an aside in a conversation about how Obama addresses issues in the black community: “My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.”

Jackson’s pre-emptive apology has fueled online speculation about his colorful language, which was offensive enough for his son, Illinois Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. to say he was “deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson’s reckless statements” in a statement intended to “reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric.”

The son rejects the father.....[8|]

I tend to forgive 'slips of the tongue' on both sides for the reason you cited ... with an open mic on them so often, it's inevitable something is going to come out that's not exactly diplomatic.

I thought McCain's comment was pretty funny too ...

Jackson is probably bitter he wasn't the first black candidate for president like he so wanted to be.  I don't like him, but it is understandable.

Right-wing humour at its best: killing people is funny. People dying is funny.

DomAviator -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 6:06:51 PM)

LOL McCains comment was hilarious... Not as good as when he said Chelsea Clinton was so ugly cause Janet Reno was the father or when he sang Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran to the tune of "Barbara Ann" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-zoPgv_nYg

See thats what makes McCain such a great leader, he relates to people... Hes Navy to the core and says what we all think...  :)

As for Jessie Jackson - pigs just flew, I cannot believe that he FINALLY proposed an idea I support!  [:D]

kittinSol -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 6:10:00 PM)

McCain just confirmed that he's a tosser, that's all. NEXT!

pahunkboy -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 6:25:49 PM)

ok ok on Jackson.....   Chicago Machine and Co-  Obama lives in the city so there is the rub.....Obama did a shady land deal to get the adjacent lot to his house.....  obama is educated.  so the 'talking down to him"  makes sense.   the child support issue tho- i have to agree with obama, not jackson.

jackson gets off on being "mad"   mad at .....well lets just say mad.

Where as obama circulates in many circles and while his wife [1st time proud in adult life] obama doesnt do that.

That's exactly the point.  Jackson was a black candidate, while Obama is a candidate who happens to be black.  Jackson has done nothing in his life except promote what he considers the interests of the black community.  Obama is defined by things other than his race.  He's Bill Cosby to Jackson's Richard Pryor, in a way.

NeedingMore220 -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 8:00:51 PM)

Interesting take on it, DarkSteven.  I think it actually helps Obama that Jackson hates him - Jackson is such a separatist.

slvemike4u -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/9/2008 8:49:24 PM)

Both these men have seen better days and should think twice about being near an open mike, now one of them could do us all a favor and just slither away, the other is running for President so this probably won't be the last time we have the pleasure of seeing him insert his foot in his mouth

People say stupid things all the time, these guys were near a microphone and now have embarrassed themselves on the world stage.

About that hidden bug in your house, you might want to reconsider singing in the shower...  [sm=dancing.gif]

That one doesn't surprise me, he often jokes that he is surprised his father didn't name him Selma.  There are far worse things that came out of his mouth, it's probably a good thing that I didn't generally bring a video camera or tape recorder, while going out on a fishing charter.[8|]

housesub4you -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/10/2008 3:42:41 AM)

I think Jackson is just angry he is no longer a black leader and there is no room for him in politics today. People are just tired of him abd his games.

I think the comment from McCain is really nothing.  Hell my Grandfather said some of the dumbest things I ever heard.  But then again he was not running for President, he was just trying to figure out the remote

What is the difference between this and Ahmadinejad saying Israel should be wiped off the map?

I'll tell you. If McCain is President, he'll have far more power to bomb Iran than Ahmadinejad has as president to bomb Israel.

You might say McCain was just joking but for someone in his position to make such jokes, he's pretty sick.

SummerWind -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/10/2008 5:57:22 AM)

Jesse Jackson is a racist, ignorant cocksucker.......oops  did I say that out loud?

I attended one of his speeches in Newark, NJ in 1987.  I was literally stunned at how a person could speak for 90 minutes............. and say nothing.....

soul2share -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/10/2008 8:24:01 AM)

Jesse Jackson has always been a burr under the saddle for so many people....his "causes" have only served to inflame people, to be devisive to the African-American race as a whole.  I've stood by and watched him butt his nose into areas that he has no business doing......I've seen him split communities with his rhetoric and BS....he's constantly perpetuating the whole "oppressed black man"  syndrome....over the years, it's only gotten worse.  Having spent time living in Chicago, I've seen him do it.  Personally, I think it's great he got caught on air.

I agree with the statements made above about Jackson being bitter because he's not a candidate for president.....and that Obama just happens to be a candidate who is African-American.  I don't think about race when I think of Obama.....I have other concerns instead.  I will admit that I haven't been very avid about listening to all the campaign speeches/promises, but it's just quite possible that the reason Jackson thinks Obama is talking down to other African Americans is because Jackson HIMSELF can't understand the "big words!"

As far as McCain...that man is just Bush reincarnated......at least he doesn't have a brother who is governor someplace.....if that man wins.....I may be headed North to the border myself!

thishereboi -> RE: Jesse Jackson and Sen. McCain: foot in mouth (7/10/2008 8:47:06 AM)

It's only funny, when it's someone you like telling the joke.

I dont think he was joking I DO want to bomb Iran! In fact I would be more than happy to be recalled to duty (as I probably would be were we to launch another major air war.) to go bomb them myself,  Hes not sick hes smart and has the balls to do what needs to be done. The Iranians are playing with their missles, so now they need to see ours is better. Today is a good day for them to die...
