I knew the price of gas was getting high.  But come on!!!  Some nut tried stealing my car.  It's a Daewoo and old one 1999 and I have it listed for sale.

It gets about 45 mpg and some ass who can't drive stick tried strealing it about 20 minutes ago.  I watched and heard him grind the gears as I called the cops.

It's a Daewoo for Gods sake, who steals a car like that?

He got caught, the clutch is shot and the cops say he will be out on bail in a couple of hours.

Jeezzz.....

And I thought it was crazy for someone to attempt to steal a 1965 vw baja beetle I have in the barn....

Of course if they would have checked where the engine goes they would have found it is lacking that vital component.  I am presently rebuilding the mill.

We interrupt this post for a public service announcement:

Never, under any circumstances loan a car to a grandchild who does not understand that when there is an Oil Cooler on the roof of the vehicle, the dipstick reading is not accurate, even though she acknowledges the instruction to check the oil at the cooler.

This warning does not apply to any women who are fully capable of understanding simple directions or who work on their own vehicles....

I wonder if this is a blonde issue?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic.

I saw a story in the paper the other day that said people are stealing catalytic converters off of cars for the little bit of platinum and paladium in them.

Out here in SoCal a lot of us are buying locks for our gas caps.  So many that you can't FIND them anymore.  Why?  A lot of unsavory people are syphoning gas off cars who are parked in front of houses, at least in my neighborhood.  It sucks verily.

A word of advice...dump the locking gas caps.....here, they are poking holes in the gas tanks.  It's cheaper to pay for the gas than it is to replace a whole tank.

Most everyone I know aren't filling their tanks with any more gas than they can afford to lose.  Usually, just a 1/4 of a tank or so.

SBFY, they have been hitting the catalytic converters here in Phoenix for about the last 6 months....apparently, that "small amount" of precious metals inside are worth from anywhere to $500 to $1000 an ounce....not bad for 15 mins worth of effort!  The ones our department has caught in the act aren't even subtle about it, they just crawl under a vehicle, cut the thing off and walk away.  Once the word got out tho, anyone who even bent over to check their tires was called in as a thief!

I'll stick to my scooter, thank you very much!

I'm so sorry for your clutch problem, but the above is one of the funniest lines I've read in awhile...

A couple of really bright individuals attempted to steal the Fuel tank used by a local construction firm a few days ago.....

Probably would have actually succeeded if they had stopped to consider that a fifth wheel pick up cannot tow a standard semi trailer.....

Yeah, platinum is going for $1952.5 per Troy oz. right now.  Palladium is going for $470.25 per Troy oz.  A troy oz. is just a little more than a standard ounce, so it's not much.  I don't know how much of these metals are in a catylytic converter, but at those prices it doesn't have to be much.

Hell, copper thieves are stealing everything now too.  Copper is $3.87 per pound.  We had a power sub station get robbed of all the wiring a few months ago.  They knocked the power out to almost 2,000 people.  I'm surprised they didn't electrocute themselves in the process.  All metal prices are up.  I started saving my aluminim cans again, because the prices are up to $1.46 per pound and still rising.  Tin is up to $10.49 a pound now too, and a lot of things are made out of tin.  The thieves are just having a field day.

They did not take in account for the air brake system rendering the trailer an anchor without air pressure huh? LOL!
They could have taken care of that with a 9/16" box wrench and a hammer and backed off the slack adjusters if they had any resourcefulness LOL!

Well, that assumes they had converted the p/u to take the different size kingpin, made adjustments for the width/heighth of the wagon, chopped the sides off the bed so they could turn, and had no intention of needing to stop without a straight mile to do it in.

Oh.  And pretty much any trailer that is capable of going 'boom' has been equipped with gps in the last few years...

SBFY, they have been hitting the power stations back east.....so far, no one's been fried, but inevitably it will happen, and then the family of the idiot will try to sue the power company.

Construction sites are getting hit pretty bad...they wait for the plumbers to come in, and then they rip the pipe out.

Metal recyclers are popping up all over the Valley....some literally overnight.  A lot of the homeless in Phoenix are making big bucks..until they get caught stealing it...the cops are coming down really hard on it.
