Fuzzy Logic Rice Cookers? Opinions?

Fuzzy Logic Rice Cookers? Opinions? - 6/26/2008 12:42:05 PM

Status: offline 		I want one of these things, I think it may be the greatest invention since sliced bread. However I just can't see spending $100+ for something like that. I mean I am a single guy, no wife, girlfriend, signicant other or submissive living with me.

I love the idea of putting in rice and letting it do its job and having dinner when I come home. I have this serious weakness for rice and cream of chicken soup miked together.

Has anyone used them, are the worth the money? I am most intrested in hearing from Singles that may own one.

Status: offline 		Check out Amazon, they have it for $59.99 (not sure what the shipping would cost).  Amazon is one of my favorite places.  I recently got a great deal on a flat iron, paid $70.00 for brand new when it usually goes for $129.  If it's something you are going to use a lot I don't think you have to work too hard to justify it.  I use my flat iron every day and bought the best rated brand name.  I would not buy a rice cooker, because I don't make a lot of rice.  But if it's something you'd use, get it.  Life is too short.  But do your due diligence and comparison shop first.

Do you have a local Wal Mart? We have a rice cooker and i recall it being under $50. i do love it and it can cook beans and oatmeal, other things too i am sure

A $50 gadget makes sense when compared to the 5 pans which will be useless after the rice chemically fuses the bottom because I forgot it....  I've never understood that... It's a starch- how can it just meld with the bottom of the pan?

Status: offline 		There are a few friends that have them, and love them. Rave about them lol.
So I guess it depends on your level of rice cooking and comfort zone. They tend to take up a lot of room too.

I don't have any problems cooking rice. I don't ever use that instant stuff, I buy huge burlap sacks of the stuff.
Make sure you rinse your rice off.
Don't lift the lid!

*smiles*  A little olive oil will keep it from sticking.  You can use any oil, but I prefer olive oil.  I do the same thing when I cook pasta. 

I'm not a perfect cook.  I have the hardest time cooking eggs over easy.  I tend to break the yokes about half the time.

Status: offline 		I love my rice cooker and think it was under $30 but that was many years ago.  My favorite is wheat berries cooked in it.  If you want to cook your rice so that it is ready when you get home from work then you better get one with some kind of timer, because that's a long time for it to stay warm and it would probably dry out.  Mine cooks in about 20 minutes then stays warm until i turn it off, maybe the more expensive ones are more sophisticated.

Status: offline 		I have a Cuisinart - about $50. I cook a lot of hard grained wild/specialty rices that can take upwards of 30 minutes or more. It's great to be able to just put the thing on and walk away and not have to worry about rice water going everywhere. The rice is generally cooked quite nicely.

Status: offline 		Hard grain wild rice ? I would eat it but I can't seem to cook it. Had the mixes with it precooked, and they are always spiced and I know why, it tastes a bit funny until you get used to it. I would like to try my hand at spicing it, I (we) have a very extensive spice rack. There are so many different kinds I had to built the rack, well shelves near the stove downstairs.

If one of these doodads can cook wild rice properly I might have to give up the fifty.

There are lots of rice cookers that aren't fuzzy logic, which will cook rice for around 30 to 50 bucks US. For half that you can get microwave rice cookers. Once you find their ideal settings and measurments they will all produce plain rice suitable for gunking up with soup...

If you want a fuzzy logic one ($110 to $180),the extra money is so that it can deal with various types of rice on its own.

If you are planning on cooking a lot of brown rice, sticky rice, etc, wait for a while, and the price of the Fuzzy Logic cookers should drop.

Status: offline 		OP, a crockpot might be cheaper and will do your rice and soup mix on the low setting and won't dry out.  i haven't ever tried to do rice alone in a crockpot though.

Status: offline 		I have the BEST rice cooker on the market. His name is Tran... Makes all kinds of rice - white rice, veggie fried rice, shrimp fried rice... Brings it right to my house, along with little packets of duck sauce... Brings egg rolls, wonton soup, lots of good stuff LOL One phone call and the rice man cometh LOL

Greetings Alumbrado,

That's not true. I have a microwave rice cooker (cost about $10 CDN) and it makes perfect rice. Plus it doesn't stick to the bottom like other methods of cooking rice do.

I said that microwave rice cookers cost about $15 US, and make rice just fine... what is 'not true' about that?

I am not a 'foodie' and have a teeny-weeny kitchen.  The only small appliances I own are a toaster, a microwave and a coffee maker. 

Sadly though, I admit that if I had the money, I'd spend it at the salon, LOL.

OMG i didn't realize Fuzzy Logic is a brand.  I thought the OP was referrring to his logic being fuzzy in making this decision. LOL
