DA  get yO azz over here and help me with some projects on my house!  You multi talented indiana jones you.

anyhow theft is not the main reason for lock.  sugar is.  ever since I started driving in the 80s i have locked my tank.   a teen vandalizing, a mad aquaintence, or a nut crazed ex can all add stuff to your tank that would cost thousands to fix.   so THAT IS why you ALWAYS lock your gas.

Yeah, but we're talking phobias here, LAM.  As in irrational fear of snakes.  Ever see a grown person climb up on a chair screaming because a mouse ran across the floor?

If the pit viper is IN the car, that wouldn't bother someone who is just trying to steal gas from your tank.

Either that or a sticker warning that a pit viper is in the car.

You could always go the route that Mad Max used... explosives and a kill switch.  I am not sure how an insurance company would feel about this one, but at least you know that the gas in your tank wasn't stolen, and that the person attempting to steal it hasn't just moved on to the next car (although bits and pieces of him may have).

Thadius, would that qualify as an "act of God", on the insurance report?

I was wondering more if it would qualify for the discount you get for theft deterents.

shrugs....being mechanically inclined-I think I will just get a cheapie hatchback and put the filler tube Inside-and out of sight. Ad pop rivet a plate over the outside hole, with just a vent located there. Add a quarter inch thick steel plate over the bottom of the tank-and it just becomes easier to move on to a less confusing vehicle. You cannot just punch through steel that thick, and it takes a LONG time to drill through it-and then the gas just comes out everywhere-no way to contain it.

I have to agree with soul here..I will not fill up the tank because of this theft extravaganza going on due to the prices..I can afford a loss of maybe 10.00..but not the loss of 50.00....if more people just kept gas in tank to a minimum..the thieves may realize it simply is not worth the effort to steal gas from private vehicles..and thus lessen damage to those personal vehicles..Tempting

As I sit here listening to tonight's news, I hear that gas thefts are on the rise.

Gas Thefts on the Rise | Newsweek Future Of Energy | Newsweek.com

I have a gas tank that you need a key to open or you can open it from inside the car.
I hope that is enough security.
I wonder if they will start making alarms for gas tanks soon?

Do I need to get a fuel lock beyond what I have?

O Lordy, MzMia.

I have an older car and one of the features that stopped working is the 'lock' on my gas tank. It stays 'mostly closed' all the time, but I cannot shove it all the way in anymore.

I've had my mechanic look at it and he can't fix it unless I spend some real dough.

S'thing else to fret over!
