Let's see what that bastion of neo-con fabrications and bias Snopes, has to say about the notion that Enron was the scandal of only one party...

"... Enron traded so much money and influence... among both Republicans and Democrats.... that neither party can rightly take the moral high ground in decrying the scandal..."

One more time     'I  r  o  n     t  r  i  a  n  g  l  e'.

I agree. We, as an electorate, have to wake up to, and acknowledge, the fact that , due to what amounts to legalized corruption, our "democracy" is broken. Both major parties and our politicians are corrupt and dance to the tune played by the big money campaign contributors."Everybody" does indeed mean everybody.

The only way to remedy this fact is to have legally mandated , publicly funded campaigns and elections. Yes, yes, I know the arguments for infringement of free speach regarding public financing. Imo, that is a red herring.  Public funding of elections will allow more, not less, free speach. At least the big money's loud voice will not drown out the common citizens'.

Yup.If something is within the rules,it`s not wrong. If you pledged to play be the rules and then brake them, then it`d be another thing.

I think Obama would like to see things cleaned up and made more transparent.

But he`s no fool,he`s not going to unilaterally disarm and work with a handi-cap trying to be Mother Theresa, when everyone else is taking advantage of every perk and free lunch in Washington.

He can though, sincerely suggest (and be taken seriously)that we need less influence by the richest lobbyists with the most resources and have an even equal playing field where all interests(rich and poor) get an equal voice. That`s the kind of reform we need.

It might be a small change.A change that only a policy wonk could appreciate. But it would be a change for the better.

With Sen McLobbyist, the power and influence of lobbyists will only grow and get worse.

This is why he`s sworn off campaign contributions from lobbyists. He`s also sworn them off for the entire national party(DNC).This was the very 1st thing he did as party leader just after he won the nomination.

Here's an interesting, and poignant, point of view from the late George Carlin on elections, voting and politicians and the state of our "democracy". It was originally posted by Tulip in the R.I.P. George Carlin thread.
