I want a WII

I want  dvd copying software

I want a huge flat screen tv to hang up over our fireplace.

A blackberry or similar would be cool, too.

I want a Nikon D3, and a boxload of lenses, flashes, filters, and other assorted bits. Also a Leaf Aptus 75 back, with a Hasselblad H2 to mount it on. But that's not happening short of a lottery win, and I don't play the lottery.

pink, it all leaves me cold. All I really want is a HUGE harddrive and a cloning program that will work FOR ME, or someone to do it. That way I can start downloading again. BTW an ipod is a digital recorder an plays like a portable CD player, thing is, when you buy it, it is empty. I've never had one because I am not a music addict, I like music but I see no reason to take it with me. I could probably load an ipod for you, I DO have the material. Some surpass me but my collection is extremely diverse. People come and ask me to burn a CD for them and if I don't really know I ask how old they are and what type of music they like. I almost always come up with something that, when it starts they say "God I haven't heard that in years, I want it". I have songs that would blow your mind. I don't mean they are radical, they may have been hits or near hits at one time, but see little or no play these days even on the oldies stations, well here, the oldies station. And alot of the stuff they play is not that old IMO.

Lack of a Syrius radio, and ipod can plug into your car stereo or modulator and you can have good tunes as you drive. Instead of like when you burn a CD you can remove something from a playlist and replace it with something else in a jiffy. With a CD it would require burning the whole CD again. Also the data in an ipod never gets scratched :-) If you ever get one I'll load it for you. Some people, in fact many, have more songs than I do, but I don't think anyone has quite the diverse collection that I have.

The Syrius radio, you can usually get a package that allows you to take it in the house and hook it up to your regular stereo. If you don't drive alot, that is the way to go. Plus once your car is setup for a Syrius addon radio, it is also equipped for the ipod. They should be cheap by now, they are now primitive as far as I am concerned. Buddy of mine shows up with a Zoom player. It does videos. Plugs it into the front video jacks on my TV and there is a music video. It has an OSD, menu, all that. He usually just uses it for audio with headphones, but it can do movies, videos, clips, whatever. They are about $300. A simple ipod should be alot cheaper.

You are a Woman, so at least have a cell for emergencies. With these winters it could save your life. Any other features are garbage to me. A cell with a camera is a waste of time unless you can upload decent resolution pictures somewhere to be retrieved on your PC later. If you want that, you are better off with a digital camera. We got a 5.2 megapixel for like a hundred bucks and a one gig memory stick for quite cheap. You just plug it into the USB port and boom, you got the pics stored. If you got a CD burner you can burn a photo CD and have a photo shop make it into real pictures.

In that case you are not pigeonholed into set sizes of rolls of film. You can leave the defective pictures out, you can also fix them up a little bit first in case they are a bit too dark or light, sharpen the blurry ones, fix the color if you know what your doing. I can show you how to do this. Then you burn the CD and take it in and you are paying for pictures that are all good. And once you clear the memory, everything is stored so you can get more shots in before taking it in. There also may be places that let you upload the photos in JPG format and will make prints out of them.

And digital memory does not expire like photographic film. The last disposable camera I bought got lost it before I could fill it. No sense looking for it, I am sure it has expired.

With our digital camera, it only runs off of AA batteries. Gotta pull the thing out every once in a while, if the batteries are getting low, replace them. But keep them around to use in remote controls and those cheap clocks. But other than that there is no maintainence. Actually just buy regular flashlight batteries and don't put them in. They will have the longest shelf life, but they won't run the camera as long. If you plan on taking a bunch or pictures put some good alkalines in it.

I think a cellphone with a camera would be the wrong way to go, I think most of the time it will be hard to really do anything with the pictures.

But really it all turns me off. I need nothing. I am happy with my old toys, so Santa, if you're out there, save the money and get some kids some BOOKS.

However, certain things do save you money like digital cameras and ipods, if you use them. If you can handle it, use the PC for media. Why have disks when there is a better way ? Even disks, like I said I could load an ipod and you'd have the songs in the order you want, and you can change it at will. I could burn you CDROMs with probably 100 songs each and at home in your spare time you could reload the thing yourself, or just add/replace tracks.

Notice I did not mention a DTV converter, I simply don't need one. I got this dandy box for fifty bucks that puts the PC screen on the TV, just set er to full screen and let it go. No ghosts, no interference, no messing with antenna or rabbit ears, no nuthin, it just works. I'll download what I want. So I just don't need the box.

I only want the technology that will make my life easier in some way, not more bells and whistles. At least that's my slant on it.

DVDFab. You will have to get the latest version periodically as copy protection is a game of leap frog:

They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.
They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.
They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.
They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.
They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.
They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.
They create a new protection scheme and it gets cracked.

And so it goes...

Ooooh, fun topic!

If Santa exists, I'd ask him for:

A new iPhone
A home entertainment system, the works, and one I can plug my iPod into and crank out through my home
A 47" LCD HDTV for the living room and a 34" for my bedroom
A new (lighter) laptop, maybe an Airbook, those are sexy

Don't want -
It's all relative.  If I had none of the above (which I currently don't), I'd still be happy.  Things are toys.  They might make life enjoyable, or interesting, or more convenient, but they're definitely not necessities.

My cell phone is over three years old. I'm not replacing it unless it dies because then I would have to learn how to work a new one. I'm still learning features on this.

Basically, I've only got three years left with a teen in the house. After that I'm going to have to learn how to operate and worse, program, stuff on my own. I'm not happy about that. I bought an iPod nano when my daughter got her video one simply because the kids break or misplace theirs and it was cheap enough so they can if desperate use mine. Takes them five minutes to add their music and delete it. I can't do any of that. I use it myself on long drives where otherwise you would spend your whole time on scan and never find a station you liked for more than half an hour.

I love the camera part of my cell phone, but the Bluetooth, internet and Mp3 player capability that it has are totally worthless to me.  I only picked it out because it was free, since I qualify for Verizon's "New Every Two" plan, and it was beautiful shiny metallic red   (If I had paid for the phone myself, I would have bought something much more downscaled.)

My kids went together on a $40 DVD player for me 4 years ago and it's still going strong.  I'm totally into the "features" that come on the DVD's, like the commentary and the outtakes.  But then again, I'm easily amused.

I'm thinking about a laptop computer, just an inexpensive one.  My current desktop is 6 years and limping a little, but still going.  I'm told I should get an external hard drive to put all my music on.....might some day, but it's not high on the list of priorities.

With all my very soul and being, though, I recommend getting an mp3 player (Ipod, or another brand).  I'm a little tech-shy myself, but you can put hundreds or even thousands of ALL your favorite songs....and then some.....in something the size of a matchbox!  I love, love LOVE my mp3 player!!!  No more big and bulky Discman that jumps when you walk with it, no lugging around cd's.  I am forever a fan of the Creative Zen brand....I bought a 1GB a year ago, and it has around 400 songs on it.  The best part....I accidently left it in my jeans pocket when I did laundry and it went through a washer and dryer cycle.  When I realized what I had done, I figured it was a goner and started pricing new ones.  Well....when I found it in the dryer, for the hell of it, I tried to turn it on.....it turned on.....and lo and behold, there was music coming out of my earbuds!  It still works perfectly.  I'll never own any other brand but Creative Zen, now!

I just bought a programmable 4-cup coffee maker for my morning coffee commute, woo hoo!

I have a little bit of birthday money burning a hole, and I think I'm going to get an optical mouse, I'm tired of fighting the ball.  I might even get a cordless one.

GPS navigation systems are available on cell phones now.  You might be able to kill two birds with one stone with that one.

Also, I haven't had a land line phone for about 4 years now, and I don't miss it a bit.

Just for the record, T,  When I moved, I found a whole stash of 35mm film that had been shot.  Not knowing what was on them, I figured "why not?" and ran them to wal-mart.....turns out, they were pics that I had taken of my son while we were at Scott AFB in Illinois in 1986...that would have made him about 18 months....the move occurred about 3 years ago.

The pics came out fine...the box they were stored in spent time in 2 different storage facilities, and sat in my closet for ages.  There was no damage to the film at all.....and they came out as if I'd taken them last week.

I'm still using that pentax camera.....it's over 27 years old, has been dropped into the Pacific, rolled around on a bus, halfway around the world and back, and still works fine.  Maybe one day, I'll decide to join the 21st century, but for now, I'm happy.

I thought of something else I want.....whatever will convert my old vinyl LP's and also some cassette tapes onto cd's or into mp3 files.  I have some cassettes of my kids talking and singing when they were little and I don't want to lose them.

i dont want a wide screen, gps, blue ray, blue tooth or power windows in the car.  in fact- i am evolving away from going ga ga over tencholgy.   i once thought it could save us- but now im leaning toward it displacing life and happeniness.

the riddle in this is - a hammer is a good thing- but if i owned 200 of them, would my life be better? how about if i owned one in every size and color?

so- i want just enuff.  i just wen thru and took 3 carloads of electronics to recycling.  all crap that is obsolete and   clutter.

so as to what i want - in life is- a well rounded. not too weighted in gadgetry.  we been duped.  the tech takes away from human interection and peace and quiet. as the say silence is golden,  the gadgetry has reashed the saturation level.  at least with me.

the other day i built a shelve to the microwave is elevated.  i used my hands a skill saw. a level a drill- when i was a kid i used to buibd tree houses- so my place is a treehouse.

but also - i notice out of 4 neighbors 1/2 are "oh heavens, isnt that awful"  and 1/2 are " a,b,c are choices- lets go".  i guess i was perplexed that a neighbor came over to tell me anbout my windows.  alright- i heard his point- windows cost money- so doont force it in.  but what i did not want is 20 minutes to debate how windows are, finally i told him i was frustrated and going inside. well that set off a whole new conversation.

the point is the world is a boring place if we follow the recipe.   i did not hit most the high points in my life by folowing the recipe.

so -in terms of teck- it can only boost my "me" a certain amount. after which any attempted boosting is futile.

technology prmised us everything.

it to date has delivered a fraction ...

so- rather the the pre-perscribed recipe roadmapping my plight of living- rather then tech calling the shots- i am going to call my own shots....

here ya go pink.  rather then guessing or assuming watts used this $20 gadget can show you where to make the trade offs. my tv uses more elctricity then my fridge.  tv 100 watt, fridge 80, laptop 25, ans machine 2.  buy or borrow one of these,

To M/many P/pl on this thread:

i'm a complete technotard.  i have no f**king idea what Y/you're lusting after, LMAO.

i still want a DVD player and a cordless phone.  (Kinda discouraged to hear that hooking up a DVD player will be so complicated.)

Termyn8or, thanks for the offer but i have zero interest in an iPod.

i'm kinda resentful that i can no longer get small applicanes fixed.  i bought a f**king toaster..it should just last!  If it breaks, i want it repaired for a small cost..i do not want to throw it away and buy a new one.

My biggest resentments are about pc's.  i bought mine from Dell in 2002 for $1,000 and now i'm being told i don't have enough memory to use it as i once could.  i can't afford more memory for it.  Seems to me pc manugacturers have U/us convinced W/we need a new model every year.

What a racket.

i have forgotten about some other stuff i don't want:

HD tv; flat screen tv, gigantic tv screen, etc.

It's tv for the love of Gawd.

Why do i need a home theater system just to watch 'Law and Order' reruns?

Most, if not all, of the BluRay players and the PS3 is upgradable online.  I used to work for Circuit City and I learned that when technology goes past the 1080p level, you'll be able to download new drivers for the 1440p that is expected to come out in a couple of years.  Although it won't really matter since TVs and BluRay discs with the 1440p capability won't show themselves for a while anyway.

I recommend buying the PS3 because you not only get the exact same BluRay player that is all over the market, you get the PS3 game console, too, for your kids/grandkids.  The price for a 40GB PS3 is about $400...the price of BluRay players usually start at around $400.  With the PS3, you get two items for the price of just a BluRay player.  You just get more bang for your buck with the PS3, plus it's the same BluRay player that you could buy for $600 or more...it plays the same BluRay discs in the same 1080p format.

Just my opinion, though.....

Thank You!!!

pink, the PC issue is an easy one. Just say no. "Do you want to install", "Do you want to upgrade", all that shit, say no. Your PC is probably twice as good as mine. I have a P3 class celeron at 433Mhz and 160MB RAM. It runs Winsows XP Professional corporate version and I can play a full length movie in full screen at full frame rate (not choppy).

The reason it runs so well is because I do not have all the latest software on it. I try to tell people to say no. Anything it asks you, say no. If you got XP all you need is SP1. If you got 98SE, reload it, I got the update files for it, including Mediaplayer 9.

Anyway I got dragged kicking and screaming into XP, I just had to load it or not get online. I thought it would be slow but I was pleasantly surprised. People come over and see how smooth my PC works and almost get pissed off, go home to their P4s with a gig of RAM that take a half hour to boot. That's because they don't know how to say no.

Older software is the key to having older hardware run well.

Actually Term, the solution is to know how to configure the software correctly, so it doesnt use any resources unless you are using it. Or find someone that can (Anywhere but Worst buy)

Personally I wouldnt trust the "Geek Squad" to fix my toaster, even if I had a spare one.. and I highly recommend not letting them so much as see your computer out of the box if you are unfortunate enough to get one from thier store
