Ok so I have become more active in my local scene recently (more fool me) and I have become friendly with a lot of male subs, before i had very little contact with them and what stuns me is the differance in mentality between the female subs that I have met, namely that mostly the male subs I have met (im being careful of generalisations here) have seemed to be very fashion centric with very little interst in submission. female subs seem far less interested in what the Doms that they are interested in are wearing, i would go as far as to say that for many the traditional Male Dominant outfit is a turn off, has anyone else noticed this or is it just due to my rather minimal experiance of male subs?

I'm not quite clear whose fashion you're saying they're fixated with. Their dominatrix? If that's the case, it's a matter of stereotypes, and how a "proper" dominatrix should look. I don't think they'd want to be dominated by a woman in sweatpants, the fetish outfits may be a big part of the attraction. For me as a female sub, all my husband has to wear is -maybe- a button up shirt, but he can be naked and the feeling would be the same. but he does like me dressed up in fetish clothing, so I'm going to make a generalization here and say it's because men are visual creatures and like to see hotness.

I'd say it's the leather shirt/leather pants with a studded belt and combat boots, bullwhip hanging on one hip and a chain on the other. I don't know how accurate that is but that's what comes to mind when I think about it.

Well in my (admittedly limited) experience it was chocolate sauce. (and sometimes whipped cream, but, that's optional.)

An erect penis or swollen labia are fashion forward enough for me.

But you must be wearing the clogs of the Dominant, it just must be.

The only real difference that I note in the hetero kink scene vs vanilla culture is that male doms are more likely to take an active interest in what subs wear or don't wear and will voice their opinions a lot more forthrightly.  Otherwise I haven't noticed anything.

I also do not know what you mean by "traditional male dom outfit" but I've certainly seen plenty that surprise me by how unkempt they are.

I guess you could say I find the "traditional" dom outfit a little goofy too.  It just doesn't do anything for me.  My Daddy likes me in fetish wear, but he prefers to just dress well.  It's kind of a type of humiliation play for us.  HIm the well dressed me, and me his slutty little whore.  No offense meant to anyone who wears the traditional outfilt either, because I wear ballet tutu's and I'm sure somebody thinks I ridiculous!

A traditional dominnat outfit depends on where you reside in the country.  On the east coast it is usually black.
West coast its anything goes...as with the middle of the country.

If people can't be themselves and dress the way they would on a normal day...is it real when they dress up?

I think what she is trying to say is males are more visually oriented.  They go gaga over a woman dressed in leather.
Where a female looking at a man dressed in leather usually does nothing for them.

Myself, I'd just rather be with someone decently dressed for the occassion.  Whether that be shorts...be clean.  A tie or what have you.

I do think there is something to the 'men are visual ceatures' thing.
But i also think that there are - forgive me, i am one of those people who is always dividing everything inot two or three groups, - two differant 'types' of male subs. I think 'lifestyle' submissives then to be okay with being dominanted in sweat pants, or else learn to be okay with that - at least the ones i have known. The ones who are more, paying a Domme, or cruising a dungeon or club looking for a play partner tonight - are more into the 'look'. But, really, that makes perfectly good sense. a friend of mine who is a pro-Domme said - they are paying $200 an hour, for a scene, not a lifestyle or relationship. For $200 an hour, they have a right to expect the proffessional to come, dressed for the part.
That in no way suggests the two 'catagories' don't overlap. You can be using a pro while you search for an owner. You could be owned and, with permission, still play with a pro from time to time. there are endless variations.
I am just saying, if it is about a long term relationship, clothes might not be the biggest issue. But if it about getting their freak on for the night, then what is a 'turn on', including the costume, becomes a bigger part of it.
this is also one reason that, though i will certainly wear fetish wear for Him, sometimes it annoys me to do so in a club (as opposed to a party where i know everyone). because there are so many male subs who will approach anyone sporting that special combination of having both a cunt and some leather clothes, and beg to be topped. and this leaves me standing there, smoldering slightly, thinking, 'I am wearing a full set of four cuffs, a collar and nipple clamps, all attached by chain, the 'lead to my leash' is in my mouth (which at a local dungeon here, is descriped in the dungeon rules as being a sign for 'i am a sub who does not have permission to talk or socialize at this time), - and you decided that i am a Domme? gee, brillaint deduction, Einstien.'

I am not into costumes unless a person is an actor in a role.

Clean, well groomed, decent clothing for the occasion......I am happy.

Some men are looking for a trophy domme, just as others are looking for a trophy wife.

I can't relate to "traditional" tastes too well.  I don't buy or like the look of leather, and I think sweat pants on a woman are sexy as hell.  Yeah, I know, that's pretty fucked up.

Glad to "see" you again, colouredin!

Eeew, that made me think of the last big event we attended.  There were a suprising number of people who were just plain dirty.  Clearly dirty clothes, hair, and they smelled so bad you didn't want to play next to them.

Well for my Master, the "typical male dominant outfit" is always a kilt when we go to the local playspace.  Usually He wears a tshirt with it and a....... hawaiian shirt over that.

I tried to tactfully explain that tropical prints and tartans don't exactly go well together, so He went and made himself a tropical print kilt.   LOL!

He does have a couple of dark camo print kilts that He wears with black tshirts and to say He looks hot and yummy is an understatement. *fans herself*

But no matter what kilt "ensemble" He wears to the club, He gets drooled over by the female population and the gay/bi male population.  Not to mention the questions about what He's wearing underneath, for which He is more than happy to answer by showing them.

OP, it depends on what you consider the traditional dom outfit.  I've never been with a guy who wears leather and boots and whips and chains and indeed, I would find that to be a turnoff.  Mainly because I find the clean cut banker-types more to my liking.

Costuming has been a lifelong passion for this slave...and Master allows her to include Him in.  this slave is particularly excited if there is a theme for the event---vanilla or otherwise.

this slave inherited a very nice sewing machine that she has utilized to make everything from sheer curtains for the house for our wedding party to recreations of countless characters for Halloween.

Master looks fabulous in everything from His birthday suit to a tuxedo---and is intoxicatingly appealing to this slave in His "traditional" leather pants, boots and vest.  He is a visual treat for this slave, in that she adores everything about His appearance...including His taste in apparel.

What is the traditional Male Dominant outfit?

If you qualify for True Dominant status, you get a light blue T-shirt with a big red capitial "D" on the front encased in the outline of a red diamond.

i don't care what someone wears, really. As long as they look good in it.  Even if it is sweat pants.

Mad Rabbit, right at the moment i am on a slave registry kick in answering posts, for some reason - but did you know you really can buy a tee shirt from slave registry with these symbols they have devoloped for 'Male Dom', 'Fem Dom', 'unowned male slave', 'unowned female slave', 'owned female slave', and 'unowned female slave'.
Those are all the choices they have, though. if you want to be something else - like, maybe, a mad rabbit, - you are SOL.

Yep, when I first came into the public scene there was a M/s couple...same deal.  Looked like freaks...acted like freaks.
Not that dress has anything to do with it but he is still doing time for molesting his slaves little ones.
