Gas in my area is now around $4 a gallon, I read that gas will rise 25% in
the next year.
It is going to be around 100 degree's for the next 3 days in the D.C. area.
I am blessed to be very comfortable and happy where I live, and close to public
transportation, work, shopping and even fairly close to family members.
I caught the subway to the movies last weekend, and it was packed!
I had a big grin on my face, $3.60 round trip fare and the a/c was blasting.

Everyone does not live outside a big city, with fairly inexpensive subways they can catch.

When the temps are 100 degree's you kind of need to run the a/c.
Running the a/c burns more gas, time to run out and buy more $4 gas!
My friend the independent truck driver is crying the blues.
I talked to a man with a beautiful Hummer the other day at the gas station, I joked
about the price of gas {are you really surprised?} and he joked back, and then said
"I am going to sell this Hummer in the next couple of weeks".

I have been able to make changes and I can still save money, even in this economy.
Many are just not so fortunate.
How are you going to cope, and make it over the long, hot summer?
Will you be able to even save money and get ahead?

I am going to be doing less driving and more of this --->

Mia, yeah, I'm doing much less driving and I didn't do a lot before.
I only buy 3 or 4 gallons of gas at a time now anyway, why should I "store" it for the oil cos?
My brother up in Boston said that everyone he knows is  doing that now because they don't want to have, "a full tank of gas and go out in the morning to find that the tank is empty because theives stole the gas out of their tank!"
If you have a full tank that could cost you $80-$100!
He said there's a lot of that going around now.
Seems the druggies have found some lucrative new employment and they turn around and sell it for $3 a gallon! lol So,.....you can *still* get gas for $3 a gallon!
They do 10 tanks of gas a night and they can make $500-$700 per night!
So,...don't fill up!
Locking gas caps don't help, they've already found a way around them!
Plus, if you have a plastic gas tank they'll just climb underneith and drill right through it, no sparks.
So, anyone who goes around with a full tank of gas these days is a target.

I think he's fooling himself...lol

I already don't drive much.  Mainly just between work and home. once a week, maybe, a trip to the grocery store (my work schedule doesnt allow me to do the grocery trip on my way home).
I'm seriously going to be asking my boss for a raise to offset gas cost.

ETA:  yeah, popeye.. I do that too.. MAYBE 5-6 gals at a time.

Wonderful post popeye!
I actually try to get gas when I get around half a tank.
I felt it would be too depressing to allow my car get near empty.
I have a small mid-size car, so hopefully I won't be as much as a target as the larger vehicles.
When they start stealing gas from smaller cars, then I know they are hard up.
I guess we need alarms for our gas tanks these days.

Asking your boss for a raise to offset gas costs is a good idea.
There are many companies that are helping their employees out this way.
I would think this is a great incentive!

gasoline was $4.45 when i filled up a few days ago.

Knowing nothing about gas tanks even if you fill it with a little amount they can still steal it and you go out to start your car and? Nada?

MzMia... great link, thanks... Too bad the wonderful ideas won't work, in my case.
I just have to convince my boss either to increase my pay, or to start giving me a weekly stipend for gas.

we're planning all trips we make, combining what we can get done in a particular area in one trip.  we aren't making alot of pleasure trips this summer.  thank goodness someone gave me an electric scooter to use, i can go to the local grocery store with the boys and bring stuff home rather than drive anywhere.  our pharmacy is down the block and there's a family dollar store around the corner for little stuff we might need to pick up that we can't get at the grocery store or the pharmacy.  so we're pretty well set here, plenty of things within walking distance.  we do our banking online so that's covered as well.

Why? Because the next time you go to buy gas, it'll cost you 20 cents/gal more than it did at your last fill-up... Wish i'd filled up one of my 55gal oil drums with Unleaded when i picked them up a couple weeks ago.

Bike's still getting 50MPG.. could be worse! Guess when it gets to $7/gal it'll be worth the cost of getting a title for my little 150cc bike and getting that on the road...

Ceiling fans, box fans in every room.
Pay bills on line - every little bit helps
We just got a new (old) fridge from a friend, so i expect the electricity bill to go down a little. The old fridge had shot seal

The shame is is that if i got a job closer to home i could save $60 to $80 a month in gas.   That would be equal to a 5% raise.

heh.. if I may my electric bill online, it costs 4.95 extra.  3.95 extra to pay my internet online. problem is the billing cycles don't cooperate with my pay cycles..so I end up having to payonline to avoid disruption of service.

bastards.

since im off til the end of july, i decided to go buy a pool.  15' x 48" of heaven im telling you!  i talked to several friends who have one, and i figured the $300 bucks was an investment in several fun filled summers to come.

not going to fla this year, not leaving the house much at all except to go to the store and such.

ill run the attic fan when i can, but with the 95 plus temps we have had this week, its been ac all the way.....that and mucho pool time too.

I made a pact with myself, starting last week.  I will pack my lunch 4 out of 5 days a week.  And no more coffee stops.  This is very difficult for me, especially the coffee stops because I like lattes and iced coffee.  But I've added up what I spend on lunch every week and on coffee and it's too big a waste of money that I'd rather have for other things.  It's too much money to spend on convenience.  Wish me luck!

Good luck, I buy very nice gourmet coffee from the grocery store and
it tastes pretty good.

I rarely buy coffee when I am out unless I am in Borders reading.

The money you save will be enough to buy a half a tank of gas a week!
