i've got a surplus of serious gas misers at the moment... i'm afraid there's a bit of a premium on the ones that actually run, though

luckily it's been cool enough this year that i haven't had to turn my AC on in my house yet or my car so that is saving a little bit.  i just quit my job so my driving has gone down in huge amounts.   everywhere i need to go is within a very short drive or walking distance for me so my gas use will be down this summer until my move.

right now i'm still trying to figure out what the drive from salt lake city to pikesville MD will cost me in gas in september. it is over 2 thousand miles, at least it's all highway driving.  but really, i don't think i want to know.

Locking gas caps don't help, they've already found a way around them!
Plus, if you have a plastic gas tank they'll just climb underneith and drill right through it, no sparks.
So, anyone who goes around with a full tank of gas these days is a target.

Those locking gas caps are a joke, and they always have been.  All you need is a sturdy screwdriver to get them off.  If it's the kind of cap that you have to unlock with a key, you just punch the lock with a screwdriver and it will come right off.  I lost the key to the gas cap on an old car and that's exactly what I did.  It took me less than 30 seconds.

The kind that have a locking door or a release inside the car can be easily punched or pryed off in less than a minute.  I don't know why guys would go to all the trouble with drills when they are so easy to get into.

You dont even need a drill or a plastic tank... You can knock a hole in the bottom of a metal tank with a hammer and punch. You don't have to worry about sparks if the tank has fuel in it as liquid gasoline doesn't burn -only vapor. You can literally put out matches and cigarettes in liquid gasoline. Now if you tried to knock a hole in an empty metal tank and got a spark... Well it wouldnt be pretty....

The way I used to save money was buying things on sale. It is a well known fact that if everything you buy is at least 50% off, you actually make money shopping. That still works but now I go one step farther. I shop sales and then decide not to buy anything at all. That way I save well over 150% on everything I don't buy. For gas I ride a motorcycle anyway so it will be a couple years until I even notice gas prices.

I am going on a little vacation but this is only 30-35 miles away from my home.  I love the area and if I had the money and means, I would move there in a heartbeat!  I feel this is good because of the distance and that I will not have to fill up the gas tank too often.

Well, the only place I'm not cutting corners is my a/c......it's just way to hot here in PHX to even think about not using it.....it IS, however, set at 78 degrees, and I do have a fan in my bedroom, but that's mainly for the white noise.  The electric bills here run about $100 a month.....I can either give it to the power company or the oil company!

As I've said before, I now drive a 150cc scooter around town.  With the current increase in gas prices, it's about $8 a week for my gas...I get about 80 mpg, and it suits me fine.  I've decided NOT to get a car.....between the cost of gas, and not having a car payment now, it's nice to have the money for extras.  I also invested in a bike, and use the bike/bus to and from work.  It's actually quite nice...unless there's already a full bike rack.....then I just pedal my butt to work....9 miles or so.  I really needed to start getting a little more activity, walking wasn't enough, and it's already paying off....I was wearing an 18-20, I tried some clothes on this weekend, and they are too big!   Wasn't ready to try on the 16's yet, didn't want to depress myself if they didn't fit!  But soon!

Speaking of scooters, if you want one, you better get it fast....there was a blurb on the news this weekend of a dealer in CA that can't keep them on the lot, and he's got a waiting list for them!  I've noticed more and more of them out on the roads just in the last month.

It's going to be about  100 today...got all of the ceiling fans running and the ac set fairly high...about  84.  Which feels cool compared to 100.  I have definitely curtailed my driving because of the cost of gas...but I'm getting a ton of yardwork done as a result.  We normally go down to the outer banks every year, but have also cancelled that vacation due to gas costs and uneasiness about the economy.  We have very flexible schedules so we can pick up at a moments notice and go somewhere if the price is right.  We also invested in an outdoor wood furnace so we are no longer dependent on heating oil for the winter.  Also looking into a solar powered water heater.  I won't see any savings this year as the furnace costs about the same as what I spent on heating oil, but come next year...I should have almost an extra 8,000 in my pocket.  Every little bit helps.

Faster and easier to drain it out of the tank with gravity than fuss with a siphon.

Hello mya, are you moving primarily due to the economy?
Were you planning to move anyway?
I bet there are many people having to make serious changes, such as moving due to the

recession/depression we are in.

Thank you all for sharing, I really like to hear how people are making it.
I am sure some of these ideas are going to save some of us some money.

At the very least, we know we are not alone!
I am cutting back in every way I can, that is not too painful!
