I miss the snow we had last year! I'm jealous that several other states are receiving what's rightfully mine![>:]

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/20/2011 12:56:41 PM)

Just got back from the doctor in Tyler.  Putting me on c-pap is helping me out, but he is worried about my weight being so high.  He is seriously thinking of referring me to a specialist who deals with stomach stabling or lab band surgery.

I am seriously thinking of narrowing my diet.  I am eating lightly as possible, 2 meals a day, no snacks.  With the weather acting up, I can't go walking.  I do leg lifts and squats.  If I can find the weights, I can work on my bis and tris.

One problem...NO CHOCOLATE!!!!

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/20/2011 1:22:26 PM)

Shar, you want to be careful about cutting your food intake....the body will see it as starving, and start to store reserves....ie fat.  The best diets all recommend eating smaller meals, and more often, as in every 2-3 hours or so to maintain an even keel.  Even doctors say the same thing, my nutritionist that I saw when I first was diagnosed w/diabetes told me to eat the smaller meals more often.  Drinking lots of fluids is also recommended.

I know a woman that had the bariatric surgery, not the band, but the staples.  She topped out at almost 450 lbs, and it was that or she'd die.  In the 6 weeks she was out, she lost almost 100 pounds.  I don't know what she's at now, as I left not too long after that, but it worked wonders for her.  Her blood pressure was down, the stress was removed from her knees and hips so she could actually start to walk for exercise.

Look into it....ask the questions, talk to other people who've had the surgery.....the lap band procedure is supposed to be the easier one, not so invasive and all.  It's not an instant fix, you still have to make lifestyle changes, but it's a place to start. Good luck with what you decide.

PS....even the diabetes nutritionist said I could do chocolate in moderation, and it's not as bad as everyone says it is!  Dark chocolate is even good for you!  Just moderation......

soul - you are so right. In the last few years my weight has ballooned, even though I rarely eat more than one meal a day. Okay - I had a carb snack at bedtime that didn't help. But re-learning how to eat is difficult. I find breakfast the hardest meal to eat because I'm so busy with the kids routine in the morning. Then I'm off and running, doing lunch at my daughter's school, play on the computer a bit, then off and running with after school activities. I have to make a conscious effort to say ... stop ... eat. I started back at Curves this week, and I already feel more energized

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/20/2011 3:45:05 PM)

Boozy, I find that sandwiches are a real life saver when I'm in a hurry.  I use wheat bread, and usually it's roast beef or ham.  It takes the edge off, gives me something to burn off and doesn't leave me just prowling the kitchen for "something" to eat.

My problem is breakfast, if I eat to soon after waking up, my stomach revolts and I'm um....well, indisposed for a bit.  We're talking at least an hour before I can eat anything.  Even water or anything liquid can do this.  And I forget to eat on my days off.....I'll be running errands and stuff and get all funky in the head and realize that I'm running on fumes.

I've thought of checking out Curves...they don't list rates online, and I hate to contact places looking for information because they just don't take "I'm only looking" seriously.  I walk, but I want to do a more varied workout.  If I had the extra, I'd actually start taking riding lessons again.....maybe if the job at the PD works out.

DesFIP -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/20/2011 6:26:40 PM)

We got a boatload of NY snow the lovely Butterhead could try.
More disgusting snow coming overnight. One holiday (Monday), one snow day (Tuesday), one two hour delay (Wednesday), one full day of school today and looks like another snow day tomorrow. Somebody shoot me now. However there is no need to work out. Just shoveling is a workout.

We finished chipping the ice off the main part of the parking area in front of the house. Unfortunately the driveway which is about a quarter mile long, is icy as can be. Four cars here and the only one you can trust you won't get stuck with is mine. I've got the 4WD.

Aylee -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/20/2011 8:48:04 PM)

Oh Hell, I posted in the politics forum.  I am dead now.  Someone save me!

Other than Steven, because I think he has ulterior motives!

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/20/2011 10:19:59 PM)

*gasp*  Stevie has ulterior  motives?????  Not our Stevie!!!!!

well, as long as it doens't involve cookies......or sex....or spanking....or.....well, dayum....maybe he does!  [>:]

<----------- Throws Aylee a rope to drag her out of the quagmire that is politics.  Grab on, hun....I'll save ya!

DesFIP -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 5:18:28 AM)

Our Stevie have ulterior motives? Heaven forbid.

I am so enamored of The Man today. Last night the teen got picked up by a friend, they were going to spend the night at another friend's house since school is closed again. The friend sped down my ice skating rink of a driveway and came to trouble sideways in a ditch three feet from a tree. Took The Man three or four tries but he managed to right the car and drag it out. Then he gave the kid a quick lesson on how to drive on ice, which nobody's ever taught him. Considering the fact this kid's older brother killed himself hitting a tree about five years ago, The Man's being so calm, patient and matter of fact was the best thing in the situation.

GreedyTop -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 5:41:03 AM)

Good on him, Celeste :) Glad the kids were ok!

You really need to keep this guy.

Teens being stupid. . . yeah, that happens.

Recognizing that sometimes a teens stupidity is just lack of knowledge AND being willing to impart some. . . priceless.

I glad that all are safe and sound.

It seems to be okay, actually.  All the folks on the "left" are avoiding my little thread.  I wonder why?

She would, you know.

She will not eat ice-cream or popsicles but she wants to munch on snow.

We are supposed to be getting some more today, so I had better make sure that the cold-weather gear is ready.  *sigh*  I am still sore from the last job.  Dayum getting old sucks.

Bug & Soul....you should check out the "Collar Me Biggest Loser's" thread. Lots of good exercise/diet tips there.
Sometimes it helps to actually spell out what you're doing/eating.

Was that our long lost VP dropping in or am I seeing things? How you been, stranger?

yourdarkdesire -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 3:46:21 PM)

Not only was that our beloved Potsie, Celeste - that was her second appearance on this page!

Soul - Curves costs me about $50 a month. I signed up back in October during their Breast Cancer drive, and got in for a donation - no sign up fee.

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 4:08:03 PM)

Curves is okay, but I started to have bad medical problems, I let my membership elapse.  Besides, it was too lite weight to me.  I need more enduring exercises like weights, treadmill, stairmasters.

We just got an Anytime Fitness in town.  Its open 24/7 and you carry the key with you for when you feel like getting some exercise time in.  I need the spotter when I am doing weights (I did weights as well as doing regular PT when I was in Korea).

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 8:14:24 PM)

Dayum.....I'm channeling our favorite cook again......[>:]

It's cool outside, so I thought "hmmmmm, Chili!"  I get home, pull everything out, get the crockpot loaded, all the stuff in it, turn it on.  Then I go make me a pizza......

Just went out to stir said chili.....yanno, it cooks faster if'n you actually plug the crock pot in!!!!  [8|]
At least I didn't run out and buy a new one!  I checked the outlet!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 9:48:31 PM)

It is -1F outside right now. I am inside, and plan to stay here, grateful for my nice warm house.

Winter = FAIL.

scifi11 -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (1/21/2011 11:48:44 PM)
