My son just picked up the habits by going with me to places, and also, since he was in Scouts, he also participated in the food drives and things that they do. And his school and church also had big drives for Christmas. I do know that I simply explained to him that there were times when some families just didn't have the money for things they needed, let alone things they wanted, and that we should always try to help year around, not just at Christmas. I don't know...Santa wasn't a big tradition in my family.....it was more like letting him see the satisfaction one gets from knowing that you've done something without expecting anything in return. I do remember that Vincent never really appreciated going to see Santa.....men in beards really frightened him for some reason, and the first time I took him to see Santa, he screamed like he was being chased by the devil himself.....I was afraid the poor kid had been traumatized! Come to think of it, he did the same thing w/Chuckie Cheese...... I try to go to the place where the Salvation Army has their angel tree, and snag a tag or two. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to be able to do as much as I have in the past, but I have tried to pay forward some of the help I've gotten from places right after I lost my job and found myself in a precarious position. I have gotten toys at the Dollar Tree to donate, I know they aren't much, but I do what I can. And I always support food drives and pantries. Then there was the time 2 years ago when my bike got stolen right before Christmas....the guys and gals at work chipped in to buy me a new one, so the money I had earmarked for the new bike went to the Angel tree kids I'd pulled tags for. I was able to get them clothing, and for the little girl, I got her a doll. Also some children's books, but mostly clothing. Then I let everyone at work know that their kindness towards me had paid off for them too! It was nice knowing that someplace, a couple of kids had a nice Christmas after all.
