It's Time To Flee The Country
by Chalmers Johnson
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/good-magazine/its-time-to-flee-the-coun_b_102738.html

In short, I think our ship of state is heading for a mammoth iceberg. Just as many people in 1930s Germany were, I'm too old to leave and will probably go down with the ship. But if I were younger, I would be thinking of bailing out. Vote, if you must, in November, but don't expect that things will change much, let alone get better.

-----

Well, I am neither too young nor too old to consider a future elsewhere. Plan A is for the USA to turn shit around, but I do doubt it will happen. Why do I doubt it? Because Americans are tedious political dumb-fucks in the main. We argue about whether class structure exists instead of what to do about it. We argue about whether Universal Healthcare should be made available instead of how to implement it. We talk about the free market as if it existed rather than how to better protect our market from international forces. And such a list goes on and on...

I have a Plan B. Believe it.

Hopefully Plan B isn't heading north (just joshing)

Did Alec Baldwin ever make it up that way? [;)]

Churro, if we go down, there may not be many other places to go to.

I'm curious, why do you think you're too old to leave?

Amen, Homie - But I'd tone down the rhetoric a tad bit.

I wouldn't call/say Americans are ''political dumb-fucks.'' I would say rather '' Americans are narrow in scope '' and '' Politically unsophisticated ''

Their interest lies in what they believe empowers them.......and when it comes to political discourse, most of the populace feel very weak. As I mentioned in a previous thread of yours.....the true enormity of the situation at hand forces most to re-tract back into their comfort zones.

A lot of truth there.

I have a friend who would love to bail...but he happened to wait till he got too old after age 55  and had diabetes and was rejected when he applied to move to Canada as he would be considered a drain to canada's medical system

sasseeNshy -> RE: It's Time To Flee The Country (5/25/2008 8:30:54 PM)

Well Maya...with all due respect, not only a drain to our medical system, but also our employment system......at age 55 whether we like it or not, probably unemployable in this market........our social systems are being drained enough.....which makes those of us who work, a tad hacked, however. it is what it is, our passive nature........I'm sorry about your friend.  Canada has its share of problems too.

I said I was not too old to leave. Hence my having a Plan B.

Oh.  Oops.  I read your first paragraph and didn't realize it was a quote from the article (I read it before I read the article).

I get it now.  [sm=doh.gif]

I give.......

What's Plan B?

MadRabbit -> RE: It's Time To Flee The Country (5/25/2008 10:16:56 PM)

That's the first article I have read about the state of our country that actually made a lot of sense...

SugarMyChurro -> RE: It's Time To Flee The Country (5/25/2008 10:46:57 PM)

Plan B is private.

But a true mastermind always has contingency plans. Plural.

What does anyone in this world need to survive but food, water and healthcare? Everything else is a luxury. I'd even argue health care is a luxury. If you teach an American to fish and hunt they can take care of themselves for the rest of their lives don’t just throw money at them impoverished American’s.[8|]
Give the gift that keeps on giving and sponsor an American today 0800 9687 382533 that's 0800 YOUR FUCKED.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: It's Time To Flee The Country (5/26/2008 5:18:02 AM)

ever notice that the "United" part of U.S.A. seems to have abandoned us long ago? if we were truly "United" then there would be no seperation of classes...i.e. Rich, Middle Class, Poor. and what of the term "All Men Are Created Equal"? perhaps we were 'created' equal' but we "aren't" equal any longer. so much for the "Good Ole U.S. of A."

In the old cowboy films, everyone headed to Mexico when the heat was on.

I am much closer to there..... no, you'd have to pay me to go across the border down there.

Damned Hollywood, always mucking things up....[:D]

bipolarber -> RE: It's Time To Flee The Country (5/26/2008 7:09:55 AM)

In the old cowboy films, the desperadoes always headed for Mexico when the heat was on. The heroes always stayed and fought.
