Ok, I don't know if it's actually black or not, but.... 23

TheHeretic -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/23/2008 10:11:44 PM)

       I think I saw this movie...  Roy Scheider, wasn't it?   LA has done some experiments with UAV's, and I imagine we'll start seeing those taking over for the highway patrol planes soon enough.

bipolarber -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/23/2008 10:34:57 PM)

Wow... that's kinda... early 1990's X-Files retro....

Owner59 -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/23/2008 10:41:01 PM)

I think this is what is meant by "Black Helicopter"

Added:

In Europe,they use blimps that linger and do surveillance.

Irishknight -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/23/2008 10:45:03 PM)

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/23/2008 11:04:21 PM)

Yeah I saw this story earlier.  What can you do?  If you give any police department lots of federal money, than they are going to go out and buy gadgets.

DomAviator -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/23/2008 11:04:41 PM)

Actually at this time Houston PD and Miami Dade PD are operating UAV's (aka "Predator Drones") as part of a pilot program. These are the only two cities where they are operated, as it is a testbed the FAA is using to develop the regulations and how to integrate them into the airspace system. The one in Houston can read a license plate in the dark from 8 miles and can stay on station (airborned) fro 20 hours. Once the test program is done in Jan of 2009 you can expect to see them all over.... (Assuming there is no major incident like one having a midair with a jetliner or crashing into a school or something.

TheHeretic -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/24/2008 12:43:39 AM)

        I hadn't heard about Predators being in LE test.  The sheriff here was playing with much smaller scale.

      And now I'm curious.  Do UAV controllers get a logbook that is worth anything?

they do the same here right now. Similar problems. Is it safe to operate in cities, how do peopel respond if they see it, what does it do to air traffic etc.
We should ask Israel, they use them often.

Btw they are used in Iraq also not?

I would REALLY like to see some documentation on this one.

lronitulstahp -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/24/2008 5:54:01 AM)

  i'm fine with it...the fact that they allowed journalists to come aboard proves it's not a conspiracy or anything.  At some point, security shouldn't be too overt.  It's not as if terrorists or criminals release every plan to the general public prior to executing them.  It's surprising that so many expect police agencies to fill them in on everything they do.  Some level of  trust must come into play.  Secrecy is sometimes the first level of protection.

Justme696 -> RE: Black Helicopter (5/24/2008 6:00:36 AM)

I hope they don't track al people with it. In germany they used the camera's on toll roads. They could track you through the whole country.
A business man complained because of his private rights and now they country has to stop tracking people for other reasons then toll payments.

As soon as a database of information is build, every one will nose around in it. I hope they secure that well if you can be record everywhere you go.

Here you go.... http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/HoustonMiamiPoliceTestUAVs_196649-1.html

If you do some searching you can also find the FAA NOTAM's (Notice To Airmen) in which they explain what they look like, how they are unlighted , and generally advise the pilots in the area how not to catch one in our teeth... However, that was hanging on the airport wall and I dont have it handy. There was also a popular mechanics article.... http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/air_space/4234272.html
