OmegaG -> refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 7:12:58 AM)

I just ran accross a profile that I thought was insightful and well written.  I e-mailed the gentleman to invite him to the boards.

The purpose of this thread is that thought I'd love to direct everyone to his profile, just more of a balance because all to often we get far too many mentions of profile and journal writings in a negative way and there are some darn good ones out there.

Justme696 -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:15:38 AM)

but but...what you find refreshing..might others find average....not?
where is the link? [:D]

OmegaG -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:27:57 AM)

you know "outing" someone is a no-no.  Even if the intentions are good

Dnomyar -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:30:59 AM)

So then you would rather me leave my crummy profile as it is.

you can say something like  Dn*my*r  is that forbidden?? :P

Dnomyar -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:45:50 AM)

Justme don't worry one of these days the mod will do that.

TxBarefootGodess -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:47:43 AM)

Is " Outing " a fake a "no-no" on the boards, too ?  I had corresponded with a male slave a few times over a fairly long period of time .  Another female slave from across the water emailed me and told me his picture was of an Egyptian movie star . When I mildly confronted this male with this information , he dissappeared.  No big surprise, but he had also sent me two totally different based introductions. One from last year, a totally different one this year . I understand that fakes abound, but still..... Would outing this person be considered a no-no too ?  he claimed to be " new" to CM both times .

Aileen1968 -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:50:04 AM)

One of my most fulfilling and intense relationships with a cm member was with someone who didn't have a single word in his profile.  Someone can have the best profile ever, but when the back and forth dialog begins and there's no spark then that profile becomes worthless.

Dnomyar -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 8:57:37 AM)

Aileen I tried leaving my profile blank and still had tomatoes thrown at me for it.

Yup...you'd probably get bitch slapped by Mod 11 for that.

Could you send me the link by PM? That is not outing someone is it?
One of the most critical pieces of information for me are: when did they join collarme and heigjht. Both superfluous bits of information to anyone else maybe but imp[ortant to me.
If they are new to collarme then I would place myself in their 'honeym,oon' period when the sudden newness of collarme is a buzz. I think this is an excellent facility for a free site. But I could imagine hgow after three years of being here that if I had not found what I was looking for I might have just given this up as a poor method.
BUT then again I got mail from a Dom who had been on here for threre years and still, apparently, had not found what he was looking for. I supose this has made me feel a little special.
Whereas height for me is important, it is because I cannot imagine submitting to anyone shorter in height than I am. I know this is very stereotypical but I am stuck with that and it won't change.
I don't ever do searches so don't read that many profiles. Sometimes if aomeone has been viewing me I might write back and say; i see ypu have been viewing me but mostly I wait to see what my new messages are. It's not so much the profile that does it though as to HOW that person operates. Is there a honeymoon period of intense mailing and then a 'drop'? Is there sustained interest? Is there the basis of a sustained friendship?
On the whole though I have to say that sparse profiles with no pictures have me feeling somewhat suspicious and I would like to see more, read more and therefore believe I know more right from the start. Illusions are however easy rto maintain. In my my doubtful and 'down' periods I have to remind myself that nobody is actually anybody until you have met them. Even then the closer you get to the reality, the more difficult that reality can become.

OmegaG -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 9:05:00 AM)

It is because of that kind of outing that we can't possitively highlight profiles either, it's against the TOS

Actually, I wasn't even thinking relationship wise, I liked his words, this thoughts which gave me something to ponder, which is why I suggested to him that I'd like to see more on here.

Dnomyar -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 9:14:55 AM)

Omega isnt putting up a teasing post against something?  Ponder that.

OmegaG -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 9:27:25 AM)

I am not a tease.

DominaMorticia -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 9:31:58 AM)

I saw one today that was a bit like that.  It belonged to a couple and it was just so well written.  They seemed very happy, had some great pics, and just all around looked like someone that I would love to be friends with.  I took the liberty of writing also, which isn't something I normally do, to just tell them what I thought.  It seems if there were more people that put out that positive note in the BDSM world, maybe people wouldn't judge it all by a bunch of nutso's on Jerry Springer.

I have come across a few profiles like that as well, that caused me to ponder and reflect, and it's always a pleasant surprise to find inspiration that way, looking at things from a new angle. It's not been about personal compatibility at all, but more about finding confirmation and and/or symphatizing with their approach. - And, yeah, all the more refreshing to come across them inbetween some of those annoyingly empty ones.

Leatherist -> RE: refreshing profiles (5/22/2008 10:30:31 AM)

I could write a totally wonderful and appealing profile if I wanted to.

And do it purely as a form of manipulation to get pussy....as I am sure many do-but why?

Here, Dnomyar (you know, I always read your name as "Domy"). This is an ascii bullseye. You can replace the text on your profile with it and still have something there. ;-)

Edit: ok, the font here doesn't allow it to show up well and I'm too lazy to fix it. Go here http://everything2.com/e2node/bullseye.

LOL Well said!!

I almost feel like snatching those lines and modify them for use on my profile or journal... Would that expose me as lacking in both ethics and originality, as well as showing what a thoroughly lazy bastard I am??? [:D]
