I tried googling it no luck. driver window --I rolled it down, then it now wont go up. a ton of rain the past week. any advice? how do i know if the motor is fried? is it possible to place it up and leave it there- if so how? the other windows all work.

Maybe there's some residual humidity in the circuit? I don't know whether you can take the window pane out and let the thing dry... probably not, aye [&:]... Sometimes, these things sort themselves out seemingly miraculously, with a little bit of time, like a bad rash.

Pop the inside door panel off and take a look to see if it has gone off its track.

Without knowing the make and model... Can you use your hand to push the glass up? If so, then it's likely a plastic gear that has broken. Take the inside door panel off, push the X-frame that the glass sits on to the upright position, and use a clamp or something similar to hold it in the straight/extended position. Seriously... year, make, model please? Cali

If it is a plastic gear or if it has fallen off track, once you get it in the up position, it should stay there. Kind of like when you were 20.

It is always the driver's door that gets screwed in whatever way, I know this is the most used side, but as a driver, it still sucks, especially when you know all other doors are ok and maybe even in factory condition as to their mechanicals.

Check the fuse 1st. If the motor runs,spray W-D40 in the tracks and manually assist the window up.Keep up w/ the WC-40 till it`s good and lubed. Pop the panel and lube the moving parts.The handle and door pockets come off 1st,then the panel "pops" off.Start at the bottom.Keep track of the parts.Peel off the plastic to get at the innerds. God forbid you need a motor.I love power windows,till they break.

Geez, you need to give us something to go on, man! Make, model, and year first. When you hit the switch, does anything happen? Humming, grinding? If you have the dome light on and hit the switch, does the light dim? What if you press it "down"? What if you press it in the "up" direction very firmly and hold it? (seriously, give it a try) Do the driver's power window switches still work on the other windows? Did anything weird happen when you last powered the window down, or has it been giving you trouble lately, and if so, what kind of trouble?

I have never bought a vehicle with power windows, and this is why. How hard is it to manually crank the window down? Now if you have to manually crank the passenger side down while driving, that just improves your driving skills. [;)]

We have lots of canals in Florida that run right next to roads. In an accident you have a good chance on ending up in a deep canal and the power window won't work when the car is in water. Now, I can always break the driver's side window with my piece, but Libby doesn't carry and that makes me nervous

[;)] It's actually a lot more work than setting the choke or the spark advance... lazy kids these days... [8\|] i actually used to roll down the back window in our Neon while driving... but then, i have a tendency to hit the turn signal with my right hand by reaching through the steering wheel, so that i don't have to bring my left hand back into the car...

Car headlights and tailights will work for a good 20 - 30 minutes as well. Remember, DC electricity works pretty well underwater - hence underwater welding and cutting. (just dont get between the ground clamp and the stinger! Ive also used cordless drills underwater on my boat when too lazy to drag out the compressor to use an air tool.) By the way, the best thing to break a car window with isnt a gun or other heavy blunt object. Believe it or not, its a small spring loaded centerpunch you can get at Harbor freight for $2. My previous town had a volunteer FD / emergency squad with a dive team. Those little center punches are what we used - both on land or underwater. You can pound on a window with the butt of a dive knife, a rock etc but one tap from those center punches and it shatters and without showering those inside with glass. Keep in mind you can / should ONLY try to break side or back windows. NEVER try to kick out / break a windshield. Those are safetyglass not tempered glass they will crack but not come apart without an ax, saw, halligan bar etc....

Before you ripping a door apart (and have the royal pain in the ass of getting it back together right) have you tried some plain old electrical contact cleaning spray while working the button back and forth? Might be as simple as a grimy switch.

The wire bridge between the door and corner panel could cut or shorting out.

spraying contact spray in a space might lead also to "short circuit". Not every part has to make contact...lol
