i'm curious when was the last time you saw someone curtsy? my paternal grandmother was very old fashion in some ways, as a girl i was taught to curtsy, sit properly, only speak if spoken to... and it just struck me the only time i have ever seen a curtsy was in a Shirley Temple movie or in the mirror.

this used to be something done by all females of every age. when did we stop? was there a memo?

just wondering-

Being an Aussie and having Royalty visit the country from time to time, we still see it here. I was taught to curtsy at primary school, along with waltz, Pride of Erin and a few other tortures that were done to my prepubecsent psyche. Obviously this Cinderella has never been asked to the Ball, but who knows... I may even remember how to do it without falling over!

now an adult, i wear long skirts because my pale Celt legs could blind a person. i don't curtsy. but i do present my hand as a lady, palm down, fingers first. this often turns into an akward handshake because folks have no clue what i'm doing, but hey, i tried.

My Sir loves the curtsy so I learned how to do it by a Gorean slave, a bratty boi, and a high femme Domme in a kitchen one day.

We have a morning ritual with my collar where I present the back of my neck for his kiss, turn and curtsy, and then present the collar for him to put around my neck. We love this ritual and most of the time I can curtsy without wobbling.

I pretend I have a skirt and do a bob curtsy when I'm either being cute or saying thank you to applause. It's really kinda funny when I'm in my festish uniform (<--- see picture).

Given my knees i can no longer manage a deep curtsey, (i get down ... but getting back up requires a crane LOL!) but i do manage a little bob one every time i serve Master His meals. i even sneak in a little one if W/we are out eg at a BBQ or food hall and i bring His meal to Him. Doesn't seem to raise too much alarm from those around! It wasn't an original ritual of O/ours, but a visiting slave curtseyed for her Master, W/we loved it and asked if they'd mind if W/we adopted it. They didn't

'Never saw a curtsy in Asia. Wwe all bowed in Korea, one of those "when in Rome" things.

i did think it nice that the custom had lasted in their culture. If you met someone the same age or younger than you, you gave a slight bow. If they were older than you, you bowed deeper. Most of the time you bowed from the neck, but the elderly might get you bowing from the waist.

Few would understand that gesture and even fewer would appreciate it.
Manners, for me, have never gone out of style. In fact....there is a class taught here...ballroom cotillion....that teaches all these "lost arts" to young people.
Don't stop doing this little courtesy/curtsy.....be it a deep curtsy or a simple bob, it shows respect and class.
Plus, it fits in really well with maid/victorian play .

i'll think about it. though i can't imagine what Master would think. He's in His twenties like me, and had no sisters, and has never seen me do this. It's just a little amusing to think in eight years this little matter has never came up

I expect a slight bow and a kiss of the hand--no curtsy--from either of us!

As a child i was taught to curtsy but i can't remember the last time i did so.  i dont' remember the memo either.

One photograph that stirred me was the one of Princess Diana on her wedding day in that low curtsey to her husband and Prince.  Such a submissive gesture!  How i envied her submission at the time!  That it all turned out so tragically for her is such a shame.  But that picture is etched into my memory and had promised myself if i ever got married again, i would mimic that gesture.

I was a Deb, so I've been through "curtsy class". Master thinks this is highly amusing.

i took ballet for several years.  learning to curtsey properly was part of the classes.

i lost my grace some time back, and so a curtsey would involve an unintended prarfal, but there is muscle memory in me that still longs for that grace...

and i stopped shaking hands some years ago.  it simply hurts too much.

I remember when I grew up, dancing class always included the girls learning how to curtsey, the boys learning how to bow.  As we all had dancing instead of recess on rainy days, we were very used to doing that.  But as you grow up how often is there a social setting where it is a requirement?  Dancing is not so formal as it was.  People ask, jump out on the dance floor, and move along.  Unless you are going out to tango you are unlikely to see formalities like curtseys.
Those things were more suited for meeting royalty.  I don't see it in American politics, perhaps because the idea behind our government was initially to make us equal.
LOL I seriously cannot imagine bowing or curtseying to what we would consider royalty, the hollywood elite:
"Madame Paris"  <bow>
"Mr George Clooney" <curtsey>
Though... I might consider curtseying to Clooney if his pants were down.  I can be clumsy on cue.

I absolutely love the curtsy. It's so feminine and graceful, not to mention to do it (imo)properly you have to be wearing a skirt or dress...and there is nothing about that scenario that I don't like.  any slave of mine will soon learn a proper curtsy :D

I've taught a manners and decorum class for renaissance events. Proper curtsey was part of it.
