There are actually more sunburst 58-59 Les Pauls in circulation today than ever left the factory in Kalamazoo. In the day if the grain was not good enough for a sunburst (translucent) finish the guitar was painted - often goldtop. Over the years these painted guitars have been stripped and refinished sunburst.
