Just on the subject of bamboo , i have my own growing , and you can get it at most craft places and garden stores .Stores like joannes,kmart,ace hardware, lowes , plant growers have live and dried bamboo ,world craft imports , flea markets ,swap meets ,if your lucky some homes are growing it , just ask if you can have some they grow like a weed in many places .

*swoons* mmmmm, nice. My bamboo seem so much smaller now...only 6' long and 2" in diameter.... though, it still works well as a threat when they say they can take a caning and I pull it out before I put the blindfold on.......I think it's when I shout "batter up!" that gets them nervous though.....

Thank you so much for the info mnottertail! While I'm having a bit of a hard time following your descriptions (sitting here trying to act some of them out), I do get the gist what you're saying - it's not about brute strength but more about finesse and knowledge of the body. Veddy interesting ...

Omoto is a religious term, did you mean Omote? Gake is a hooking move, and Oro is a character apparently from a martial arts video game.... No real difference between ryu on these sorts of things.

The technique you describe seems more like Koto-gaeshi.. 'wrist cut'

Yes, you are right, Al, I meant omote... I cannot keep the spaghetti straight.

what is shown in the video is more or less what I was explaining as the counter to an 'outide hand'. kotog gaishe, has about as many movements as a watch or a world, the idea behind it is 'ONE' though, and the entry and exit and the projection is one principle.

I have never understood the foreign part of it, it is inside hand and outside hand to me, and it dont get me alotta friends.

Without putting to fine a point on it, or getting in some difficulty with your Master,
you have skills in deception (metsubishi) and taijutsu (ways of moving) and ju (gentelness) and so on that he doesn't posess as a man. Your arts may help you here if the idea is to USE distraction, USE your charms, USE-------

This is an interesting thread, mistoferin. Our dynamic is a little backward, I suppose. I entered my first dojo at the age of five and I've been trained in some eleven martial arts and combat styles for a little over fifteen years now. My Master has very little combat training. He does outweigh me by quite a lot though (all muscle I promise!), which somewhat equalizes the advantage. I'm glad you brought this up. It's nice to know this is an issue in other relationships as well.

Oh man this brings back some memories... and harkens to a conversation I had last night with an ex where she was lamenting her new guy isn't strong enough to deal with her, and doesn't have any fight in him- physically or verbally.

But anyway...

She had extensive martial arts training, I spent five years as a bouncer in an army town... things could get interesting. She could usually hold her own for a couple minutes, although we both knew it was because I refused to hit her, while she had very few qualms about doing the same. It was fun, something I enjoyed, and something I'd be happy to find in any future partner.
