I'd be more worried about public sector workers failing badly but still getting obscene pay bonuses. Only his shareholders can best judge his private sector performance.

What do you think pahunkboy?

pahunkboy -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/27/2008 1:21:50 PM)

I think the difference between this guy and a bank-robber is that the bank robber at least lets you know where he stands.

ironically the BR does jail; while CEOs that ruin the country get cruises -yaughts and tax cuts....

he the 12.2 been paid at average middleclass salary-more taxes would have been paid.

oh- the cheap plastic imported, well THAT escapes paying the US infastructure,  social security and the like.

it is time for a 1% stock transfer tax.  [on all wall street stock]

Well the pay divide between rich and poor is increasing; take heart that the more disposable income they have the quicker they dispose of it.

But at least they got Mr Snipes

I'm doing the wrong job. What are the qualifications for a CEO?

FullCircle -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/27/2008 1:42:10 PM)

You need an MBA which stands for Master of Bullshitting Accounts.

Considering over 7 mil was based on the company's earnings, I have no problem. My objection is to people whose companies are doing badly and still get raises.

Archer -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/27/2008 3:26:09 PM)

The man made decissions that made the company many times that amount. (since the majority of the bonuses were based on company earnings)
CEO's in companies that size don't generally work a 40 hour week more like a 90 hour week. He did his job he made the invester's money, so they rewarded him with the bonuses. 25,000 employees worldwide, a product line that is extensive, in an industry that is costs concious, and highly competative.

Want a better idea what his qualifications are?

ROBERT A. ECKERT

  Robert A. Eckert is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Mattel, Inc., the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toys with approximately $5 billion in annual sales.

In addition, Eckert held the position of president of Oscar Mayer Foods, and in that role significantly accelerated its performance with steady improvements in market share. He also oversaw the introduction of new varieties of Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Combinations, which has consistently delivered double-digit volume growth. Still haven't seen anything this specific CEO has done that has "ruined the country" since we only arrests BR's when they are specificly caught tried and convicted of a crime I think when you make such a charge you should BACK IT UP with facts not vauge innuendo based on the actions of some other CEO's.

Based on what other manufacturers and retailers make in his league, I'm sure you're right.

Kudos to you for recognizing it.

Mattel  like other manufacturers dictate the specs on product.  A CEOs job is to "manage".  This manager failed.  He peddled leaded toys.  Toys he would not give to his own children.  This after outsourcing jobs here.

So the consumer has what recourse?  How do you sue someone in China?

It isnt like we have no idea lead is a hazzard.

Todays toys, so fragile, cheaply made.

Ild say flooding toyboxes with toxic toys would fit into "ruin".

Archer -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/28/2008 5:46:03 AM)

he specs didn't call for lead paint, the only failing was in not checking to see if the subcontractor had violated the contract and substituted a toxic paint on a child's toy. Not exactly something one would expect to happen, but yes something they still should have done. Obviously one must now assume that subcontractors are going to violate the contracts they sign and substitute things banned by law.

The consumer has the right to not buy the product.  When the bottom line begins to become affected then the head honchos will notice and make changes towards the positive.  At least that's how it's supposed to work.

KatyLied -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/28/2008 6:24:26 AM)

I don't think the CEO woke up one morning and said "I think it's a good idea to make these toys with lead paint."

In a publicly held company, the first duty is to the shareholders.  This sometimes makes people uncomfortable, but it is a fact of life.  Making tons of money makes shareholders wealthy.  Make the shareholders unhappy and perhaps you can make something change.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/28/2008 6:28:55 AM)

And it's not like these are necessary items in life.  There's not a single toy out there that my kids "have" to have.  It's not like it's the electric company tripling your rates so that their ceo can have these salaries.  If you don't think it's right that he gets a salary like that then don't buy the product.  Same as in sports.  They can pay their players whatever ridiculous salary they want...doesn't affect me in the least.  I don't go to the games unless I get the tickets for free.  Smuggle in beer and sandwiches and I've become a cheap date.

kittinSol -> RE: Mattels CEO gets 68% raise, paid 12+ million$ (4/28/2008 6:39:44 AM)

Fast reply.

How kind of everyone to come to the defense of this poor man. I just hope he enjoys his modest 68%  salary raise... Poor thing. It's just so unfair... it's only 12,200,000 bucks, for fuck's sake.

Meanwhile, people argue that there should be no minimum wage because it's bad for private business: 6 (and 1/2!!!) dollars an hour? Let them eat cake! Fucking proles.

The system's just a tiny bit fucked-up. But hey! Good for him: it's better than winning the lottery. Less tax to pay [8|] .

How about sue Mattel out of business?

Would that make shareholders happier?

I doubt it would make them(or any money grubbing asshole) behave better.

I`m guessing your UMs didn`t get the lead painted toys to chew on.

Here`s an interesting clip from an attractive dummy,explaining to us that if we don`t want lead paint on our toys or poison in our food,"prices are going to go up,at Walmart".  OMG,can you imagine the mindset working here?Very scary.

Personally,I wanted to bitchslap this cunt right through the TV when I heard her say this.
