Thats the only thing that has been shown?   Seems rather simplistic.  Though in sentiment the quote makes sense.  There is a reason we Don't live in a Democracy, but instead in a limited Constituional Republic, with democratic aspects.

That quote may be attributed to a guy with the last name of Sobran, but that's right out of '' Goebbels '' book

Here's one that reminds me of the same :

''The rank and file are usually much more primitive than we imagine. Propaganda must therefore always be essentially simple and repetitious. The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principal is born in mind….constantly. It must confine itself to a few points…and repeat them over and over and over…..''

Buzz words.  They sit sround thinking stuff up, and then they get it out to the masses.  We are desensitized, and they are rolling in the aisles as they hear it repeated back.  It is now "truth".
Here's one to think about from one of My faves (Ben Franklin, of course)
When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

Edited because I didn't spell desensitize right!  I am probably still spelling it incorrectly.  And to quote The Ranger...

Democracy will never be allowed but then only a minority of people want the responsibility of living in a democracy, most are happy living with their brain in neutral as long as they have TV and McDonalds.

I'm curious about one thing: Who exactly is disallowing democracy? Who are these people with such power in the world?

Probably the same people that Ben Franklin wrote about when he said: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."   At times I've thought about making needlepoint pillow of this for the White House, but i'm sure they think they're already ....

In a situation where the government is subservient to corporate interests, the people remain, in effect, masters of their own destiny; they've simply chosen to abdicate their responsibilities.

You can't grab/gain power from those who aren't prepared to hand it over.

The problem is not a political idea such as Democracy; the problem, if you deem poverty of aspiration to be a problem, is the extent of people's aspirations.

On the surface, this sounded good. It even seemed to make logical sense. But then I thought about it more.

How many people believe that: a major overhaul and reduction in government, a major overhaul in the manner of which business relates to government, and a major overhaul in the monetary system are even needed?

It seems to me that we would be hard pressed to find even 5 people from everyone on this board who would agree with my views... a very small percentage of what may potentially be an even more open-minded group than the vanilla world at large.

This leads me to wonder if people are really choosing to abdicate their responsibilities, or are they just unaware, confused, or simply in disagreement that a big-enough problem even exists.

I'm actually hoping that you are correct, and I am mistaken here! For if you are correct, then there is more hope for change.

LOL... sort of reminded me of "If voting really mattered, it would be illegal."

(though I'm not sure who made that quote)
