Campaigning Sunday in Pennsylvania, Clinton derided the comments as "elitist and divisive" and suggested they could doom Democrats' chances for recapturing the White House in November if Obama were the nominee

It's the height of irony for Clinton to be accusing Obama of making "elitist" comments.

The perversity is that his comments were elitist. That is the best word to describe one person's rationalization for another person's beliefs.

People don't "cling" to moral beliefs and attitudes because of economic frustrations. They "cling" because they believe.

Unfortunately people "cling" to what they think they are supposed to cling to - too many so-called Christians don't have a clue to what they believe, they believe what they are told to believe because their daddy believed it, because his daddy believed it etc.....And well guns are the solution to everything right?

Are you suggesting we cling to democracy because we're all intelligent enough to appreciate all that it entails?

Does this explain one of the lowest voter turnouts of any democratic nation?

Is that really what 'W/we' want from O/our President? To tell U/us what W/we want?

That's certainly not what I look to the President for.

The President is supposed to be beholden to the Constitution, not the whims of the majority, the minority, or the special interests (neither those of the 'left' nor the 'right'). The US is not supposed to be a democracy, but a Constitutionally-limited Republic.

The President is a check against the legislative branch; the Presidency was never intended to legislate. The President isn't even supposed to be able to declare War, except for a very limited period of time, without Congressional approval.
