Can a Dominant be a masochist--not a switch, not a top---a pure avowed Dominant?

DesFIP -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 3:48:34 PM)

Of course. Sensation play doesn't determine leadership abilities.

This.  Though, I'd say it only if we're talking about a masochist in the physical sense.  I have my doubts about an emotional masochist being able to be -very- dominant.

Yes I think so, i dont see SnM intrinsically linked with D/s, I think that actually the whole, oh no im far to Domly for that is more likely to make be arch an eyebrow.

Hmm "pure" interesting word.  You do know a switch IS a dominant right?  They just happen to also be a submissive.

yes but as such, they can quell their masochistic tendencies in a bottom or submissive way--when I say pure, I mean one who doesn't switch--one who is the avowed dominant at all times.

Switch does not equal masochist.

Dominant/submissive is not the same as masochist/sadist.  They each exist independently of the other.  A single person can be a dominant, submissive, masochist AND sadist or any combination thereof.

Your use of the word "pure" suggests that anything else is "not pure."

MladyHathor -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 5:21:25 PM)

some days I should not even try to explain Myself---I used the word pure to simply mean, one like Me who doesn't switch, who doesn't bottom, someone who can't imagine being on the receiving end of anything I simply used ot to try and get people to peel back the layers a bit, but I see I failed-

---and that's the question I ask and the info I hoped to impart that there are many things that are separate and distinct--because I think people in this life think that you have to be all one way or all the other----

I think they could have a masocistic streak..

domahpet -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 5:58:06 PM)

i say yes. there are things he likes that make me have to take an agressive role,
which as a switch is cool, even if that isnt what i signed on for, it makes him
happy and that is what i signed on for.

I am. I can orgasm from being bitten and I take pain, usually from piercing, for spiritual purposes (which is wrapped up in the lifestyle for me). But, I am always Master.

A dear friend's dominant also does hook suspensions and other heavy pain experiences as part of spirituality, trancework, and just plain enjoyment.  We like what we like.

this is one of the many reasons I admire You.

StormsSlave -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 8:38:06 PM)

My Lord is not a masochist to any real degree.  I think the idea of receiving pain is as a sexual pleasure is, in itself, a submissive act.  I can't see that the two can mix.   But that is only mho.

DelilahDeb -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 8:50:15 PM)

I will quote from a good friend's example once again.

Last year, at Paradise Unbound, he did a sensuous caning workshop. His demonstration masochist happens to be a dominant. And she lay there, enjoying the sensations well into the workshop, until, as matters became intense for her, she rose up on her hands and knees from the table where she was lying, and (QUOTING HIM):
in an absolute voice of iron, she said, "Harder! And don't stop!!" (END OF QUOTATION)

I've met her at more than one event. I've seen her play. Dominant, without a doubt. (As one to another, I recognize the vibe.)
I've also seen the bruises she wore after that caning--Paradise Unbound is at a clothing optional site, and we had idyllic weather last year--four or five colors of stripes for a couple of feet from ass through midthigh. And when she was being stapled into transparent butterfly wings the next day, and the colors in the wings matched many of the stripes, she wore the biggest "shit-eating grin" to go with them when that was remarked upon. And even the grin was dominant...somewhat like the attitude of the Cheshire cat.

Real_Trouble -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 9:05:52 PM)

If the number of times I have injured myself playing sports and continued to do so anyway is any indication, then yes, they can.

Or maybe I just have really poor judgment.

But to not be flip, I don't see why not.  Enjoying pain does not necessarily tie into a D/s context.  I know many people in sports who are masochists in one form or another (especially in endurance sports) who are not subs, and a few might be on the dominant side.

FangsNfeet -> RE: Masochism and Domination (4/12/2008 9:17:48 PM)

I would say yes. I happen to enjoy a bit of pain myself by forcing my sub to cause inflictions on me.
