If you are male and a Led Zeppelin fan, chances are you may be leaning toward voting Republican in the U.S. presidential election, according to a survey of rock radio fans released on Wednesday.

The Jacobs Media's Media/Technology Web Poll IV of more than 27,000 respondents cited stronger than expected interest in the November 2008 election among fans of rock, classic rock, and alternative radio stations.

It also found that John McCain, the Republican candidate for U.S. president, was the top pick for the Oval Office for men and classic rock partisans -- those people who tune in to stations playing music from the "original classic rock era" of 1964 to 1975, comprised of bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd.

Did you notice that the headline was not supported by any data in the article.
The article mentions that 30% of the respondents were demopubs and 22% were republicrats.  Then without giving any numbers it says that men tended to be republicrats and women tended to be demopubs.  This based on only 52% of those responding,of which only 22% stated they were republicrats; they draw from that that male rockers favor the republicrats....
Did I miss something????? or do you smell the same barn yard commodity as I do?

thorn, I have a hunch that it's a highly flawed outcome those folks have come up with.

It's unfortunate, but usually true, Tee.  Not just on a partisan basis, but rock bands seem to reject the notion of traditional patriotism out of hand.  Jimmy Hendrix played The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock.  That's about it.

Well Rockers are "cool."
I don't know about Republicans but I can't see them voting for pansey- assed Democrats.
More like Greens or Libertarians maybe.
Oh sure, I can just see the Rolling Stones having a drop-in surprise guest at one of their concerts; "Und 'ere 'ee is, the one de only ....TED KENNEDY!!!"
Lol, I don't 'tink so.

I think creatives in general feel disenfranchised from the Republican party. I are one, and I am.

It's a general statement, though, so...

And a pretty offensive generalization at that.  How creative are they, when they all say the same old shit?

Did I offend? I'm sorry.

I'll speak for myself. I think "they all say the same old shit" is a petty generalization.

Are we even? (I caveated mine )

Subtee, I'm somewhat of an "artist" (musician) and I definately wouldn't associate myself with Democrats.
And, none of the people in Washington who *call themselves* Republicans.
Democrats just seem so.......swishy, and not in the gay meaning of the word.
It's like they don't want to "offend" anyone.
I wonder when's the last time they went to a Rock Concert? lol

I don't apologize for saying what I think is the truth, Tee.  No 'even' about it.  I just thought you wanted a free exchange of ideas.  I happen to be right of course, but I'll defend to the death your right to say dumb things.

I see what you're saying Popyeye, but I have trouble finding trouble with "not wanting to offend anyone."

My days of firey rhetoric aimed at trying to change things...or even a single mind are over. I can't relate to big business and fuck the little guy. I do get frustrated at Dems who won't grow a pair and own instead of pander, but I do still feel like there is a party that can feel and for me that is the Democratic party.

Let's be clear: I didn't apologize for my truth, I apologized for having offended you. You don't have to return the courtesy.
Free exchange is cool with me.

You would really die for my "dumb" words? Really?

Subtee, you said the magic word, "feel."
That's the Dems problem, they "feel" they don't "think."
I don't know why people think you have to be "either, or" Dem or Repub.
There are other parties out there.
And please don't call Bush a "republican."

Rich:
Patriotism is not a knee jerk reaction to the flag.
Patriotism is not following blindly some money grubbing asswipe who lies to congress to start his own private war so he and his buddies can have more money that they could never spend in ten lifetimes.
Patriotism is not flying a made in China, American flag from your radio antenna.
Patriotism is not a bumper sticker saying support the troops.
Patriotism is standing up in defense of the rule of law.
Patriotism is standing up in defense of the constitution.
Patriotism is standing up to the thugs who have perforated the constitution and are using it for shit paper.
Patriots are people like Daniel Ellsberg and Muhammad Ali.  It is not a matter of party affiliation or job title it has to do with mindset.

For the right of individuals to speak?  Yeah.  It's right there in the oath every veteran took.  For you to have some sort of immunity from the offense others take to those words?  I'm gonna make popcorn and watch the fun.

God help us if we ever get to the point at which we can't feel..

Why wouldn't I term Bush a republican if he does?
