Status: offline 		You crybaby environmentalists make me sick.  No paper!  No plastic!  Resuse, recycle, reduce!  
blah, blah blah


The REAL ban needs to be put on disposable diapers!  They should be banned from stores and those with turdlers should be using cloth diapers!  It's better for the environment and cheaper!  Wash them out in the toilet and toss them in the washer with some bleach. Very cost effective.

Things like this drive me up a wall.

Take a few minutes to look into the production methods and relative resource requirements for both forms of diapers, and the impact on the environment of those things, and you will find the picture is not so rosy.  In a similar vein, I constantly am puzzled by people who drive hybrids that are thrilled about how good their cars are for the environment while failing to address the production costs, impact, and then disposal issues around the giant fucking batteries in their hybrid cars.  I recall reading a study not too long ago that both diesels and plain old very fuel efficient gasoline cars (such as the honda civic non-hybrid) are better for the environment than hybrids as a result of these things...

I'm all for environmentalism, but always do your homework.

well, if you've ever had more than one in diapers at the same time, the last thing you want is to be elbow deep in shitty diapers.  I think a better disposable diaper is in order.  they can send a man to the moon...

So this way the people that actually care about what goes into our air and water can always be considered to be on the fringe. My God! Why should anyone want to recycle or try to avoid utilizing material that does not decompose....Why?

Ya gotta love the logic of Real Trouble.....The HONDA CIVIC and Diesels are better for the environment.....Great thought. Maybe what you meant to say was that when everyone is driving Civics and diesels that hybrids might not be the best choice. Where is the logic?

Anywhooo. Hybrids are better for the environment than most every single one orf their gas guzzling counterparts....Also hybrids come in larger models. Not everyone wants to drive a civic or pay the extra cash at the pump for diesel....I know at certain times of the year that diesel can be less expensive....Blah blah blah.

I understand that tremendous inroads have been made to make diesel engines burn more efficient and cleaner....Again, if you are going to try and make a point don't derail your argument on the way to "your point."

Status: offline 		Really domiguy, the disposal of toxic waste (batteries) has been solved, and is no longer an issue.  Thats great news.   You should alert the media.

Another issue related is the Compact Flourescent lightbulbs.  The damn things have Mercury in them and are extremely hazourdous.  You can't throw them in the trash, they have to be taken to a special disposal place.  Or you end up with mercury going into the ground water....

Status: offline 		HAHA! and how much does it cost the environment for water and electricity to run the washer and make the bleach etc? no matter how you go it sucks but to a mom of 3 who were all in diapers at the same time I would have to poo poo your cloth being better theory... Yuck. Plus, being a hazardous body waste- daycare, and baby sitters changing them would be out of the question. Not even the military daycares on base- specially trained for many different situations- are required to take your child if you have cloth diapers on him/her.

My "push it" is a five speed with the huffer and it does considerably better than that.
On the 15 to Vegas I can get 51mpg...but that does require adhering to the speed limit. 
I am thinking about adding propane injection.

Get this: my local volunteer fire department has a tanker truck powered by a supercharged, 2-stroke diesel!! A two-stroke? In a truck? It's great, and it's not even new tech...the truck is, like 15 years old.

Diesels need to hire a good PR firm.

~Edited to get back to the OP: Could we make a blown, 2-stroke, stratified charge diesel that runs on disposable diapers? Or 12 oz. plastic water bottles?

Detroit Diesel only makes two strokes,Cummins and Cat are four stroke.  Whenever you are going down the road and see a semi with a straight stack and no muffler you can pretty much bet it is a Detroit Diesel with a huffer.

Don't all cars have batteries in them?
Responsible disposal of toxic waste is everyones responsibility.
Pointing out that toxic waste is a byproduct of our society does not mean it is not manageable.

Status: offline 		Compared to the emmissions created in the production of electricity the autmobile pales in comparison.
Want to really "Go Green" it's not your car you need to work on making more efficient it's your house.
A huge part (much larger than most people's worst cars) of the carbon footprint is from the electrical generation fueled by fossil fuels.

Getting solar and wind up to speed is certainly the best route to reducing emmissions.

Best? What about the power used in the majority of Europe - nuclear?

France currently gets 80% of its electricity from nuclear power from 59 plants. It actually exports 18% of its production.

The wheel is already invented.

Status: offline 		Well there is nuclear but the waste products are a problem that has never been really well handled.
It could handle the air emmissions problem within a very short time, and I would concure that short term it's a good idea.

It does still have waste problems, and those problems are quite significant over a long time period.
I'm not anti nuclear power, but it is not the "Best" option in the long run.
