Sanity -> RE: Obama: would have left if the Rev hadn't resigned? (3/28/2008 7:49:31 AM)

Obama gave Wright huge cash donations. Wright married Obama, baptized their children... Obama called Wright his "Spiritual Advisor" and attended Wrights' sermons for twenty years.

After viewing Wrights' sermons, it's clear that Wright is a racist.

That's what I'm claiming.

Oh, then there's Obama's "typical white woman" remark, concerning what had been "bred into" his white grandmother...

Had Obama been a Republican saying something like that the Left would never stop screaming about it.

Hold on a moment.

You're actually claiming association with someone who might be a bigot makes the associate a bigot? Are you really sure that is the standard you want applied to all people?

You do know that you're letting somebody do the thinking for you, don't you?

Stephen Chapman has written the best article that I've seen on pastorgate.

Good politicians, good leaders --- don't reject the fringes --- instead they reign them in and try to better include them in the mainstream.

>>Wright has gotten behind a leader whose success badly undercuts the pastor's belief in the irredeemability of America.

That is a good thing. If there are people, black or white, who hold such a bitter, distorted view of this country, it's reassuring that the most congenial political figure they can find is one who radiates—in fact, embodies—our national faith in freedom and progress.<<

If it's not widespread racism, it's good racism?

If it's racism on the part of someone on the Left, ignore it... rise above it. It's okay.

That about sum up your thinking on this?

Yep - it's obvious Obama isn't racist (his mother's white, for crying out loud :-), but if it makes you happy to believe he is because it comforts you in your mistaken belief that white people are victims of widespread racism, feel free to enjoy the ride.

It doesn't make you right though, and we shan't be fooled [;)] .

Like I said... I hope you enjoy your victimisation ride.

What's so fucking odd is your own personal obsession with racism.

If most Americans were as oversensitive as you, the country would fray apart at the seams.

Sanity -> RE: Obama: would have left if the Rev hadn't resigned? (3/28/2008 7:56:03 AM)

So if I'm not a victim of it, that makes it alright.

That's already been argued in this thread. "Obama: would have left if the Rev hadn't resigned?."

Obama doesn't want to lose his support from the radical black community, so the best he's willing to do is make lukewarm statements to the effect that he wasn't really listening to Rev Wright's "Kill Whitey" rhetoric (what was he doing, sleeping in church for 20 years?)or say that he doesn't feel the statements are truly reflective of the Reverend's character. I'm not especially interested in voting for someone who's either a flaming racist or a liar, and fortunately it seems Hillary is intent on shooting herself in the foot. This election is turning out to be fun.

Ah yes.  And because kittin doesn't see it it must not be real.

Strange logic, but whatever.

You're a white man living in Texas. I see no possible way that no associate of yours is a bigot. So that makes you a bigot by your own standard.

kittinSol -> RE: Obama: would have left if the Rev hadn't resigned? (3/28/2008 8:50:32 AM)

You know irony when you see it, I know you do ;-) .

Do you realise how laughable presidential elections really are, with the shameless mudslinging and snooping for obscure little tidbits that get inflated to Biblical proportions? You are falling prey to a few news editors' digging of graves - I think it's pathetic, because you (and you're not alone, unfortunately) aren't concentrating on the real issues.

People love getting angry over such gossipy crap. It's like bored housewives discussing the next door neighbour's love affair with the milkman... a source of enjoyment, I suppose.

ModeratorEleven -> RE: Obama: would have left if the Rev hadn't resigned? (3/28/2008 8:52:18 AM)

OK folks, enough with the personal attacks.  I'm not going to repeatedly warn you whenever a spin-off of this issue starts another thread.  Chill out or you will be chilled out.

You're right down here mudwrestling with us.

Are you just a bored housewife, as you say?

*snort*

Given that you accept the standard, what other apology have you for Obama's racism?

I reject the standard but if you wish to judge by that standard then I'll judge you by the same standard.  In other words, hoist by yourt own petard bigot.

What issue is more real or more relevant than the character of one who dares to lead?

Every criticism laid upon Bush is fundamentally a challenge to the character of the man....and rightly so. Likewise, we should scrutinize the character of all who dare take his place. We should challenge Obama's character, and Clinton's, and McCain's, and Nader's.

Character is ever the issue in any electoral campaign. Character is what shapes the choices one makes. Obama's policy pronouncements are meaningless, as are Clinton's, as are McCain's. Whomever wins the Presidency will have their term in office shaped by events as yet unknown, events which will make some commitments easy and other commitments impossible. Whomever wins the Presidency will respond to those as-yet unknown events in accordance with who they are.

Obama is a man who sits before a racist reverend and receives spiritual teaching from such a man. Obama is a man who when confronted with the hatred and outright lies Wright repeatedly wove into his sermons, refused to detach himself from such a man.

A man such as Obama is not a man whose character recommends him for high office.

We shall have to agree to disagree [;)] .
