I was just thinking tonight which is not always a good idea. The spate of teenage murders we are having is commited by the age group of teenagers born to the first generation of school leaving unemployed created by the Thatcher era. I was working in the Probation Service when Thatcher's inner city unemployed school leavers were going through the court system. They were having children without ever having had the discipline of work. I remember going to a seminar at the time and many experts were saying the country is creating a nightmare generation for the future. That nightmare generation are now 13-18 years old.

I remember that thought of a nightmare for the future, when I was seeking work in Liverpool in the mid eighties, an area with a rate of 25% unemployment. Perhaps now, we are reaping what we have sown.

I wondered when one of you would trot out Thatchers name again. Once again, what have Labour done in all this time to change things ?

The thing that annoys me about the parents involved is that these UMs were out getting drunk, in public and after midnight. There is nothing to show how many of these UMs come from broken homes. Although i agree this may be the case.

I believe broken homes have nothing to do with it, Parents that allow there spawn to go out wherever are to blame.

Thatcher created problems, as did Blair and his fairy stories, what is in now does not inspire confidence, so maybe it is best that people sort themselves out and not rely on a government that does not give a shit.

Thatcher did create a generation of inner city school leavers that did grow up and have children without ever having a job. That is a fact. Their children are now in the 13-18 age group, that is also a fact. I was working with their parents as they were going through the court system because the only way they could get money or knew how to get money was to steal or deal. Many single mothers saw the father's of their children as liabilities because if they lived with them they cost money rather than brought money in. The males grew up without responsibility for their offspring, that is also a fact. In the justice system there were ongoing debates about a future crisis and Howard, the home secretary was involved but only had one answer, the old mantra, send them to prison, which was a laugh because people used to go to prison clean and come out heroin addicts.
