19% of Obama supporters say they will vote for John McCain if Hillary is the nominee.
28% of Hillary supporters say they will vote for John McCain if Obama is the nominee.

And Bill Clinton said today his wife is not going to quit.

If this keeps up, and McCain doesnt self-destruct, he's going to sweep the electoral college.

I put less faith in that 28% of Airborne Hillary's, for some reason.

The number itself isn't that important right now. What is important is that there is a crack there. And this crack will only get wider and wider as this goes on. If the Democrats can't figure out a way to bring it back together again, they will be going to the fall with a fractured party.

This is the first poll that shows there may be some long-term damage with this prolonged primary.

I don't think the competition between Hillary and Obama is a negative at all and wouldn't consider voting for McCain. Democrats have two great prospects for the top office is all.

While this is possible, the outcome is far from certain.

With a brokered convention a near certainty at this juncture regardless of what Clinton or Obama does, how the convention is managed and how it is played up by the media will likely tell the tale.

It can't help Democrats that McCain is so middle-of-the-road while both their candidates are awfully far to the left.

Let's be realistic, McCain is a Democrat in Republican Clothing. This is why I actually perfer to listen to the person talking rather than look for the little letter by there name.

I think that's the mantle he's claimed for himself, actually. And in fact many Liberals were going ga-ga over him back in 2000, he may still have some of that political capital remaining.

Yeah. I don't like him, he's way too far to the left. It's rumoured that he almost switched parties to run with Kerry in the VP slot.

That might be what they're claiming now but back then they sounded honest, sincere, truthful, genuine... even real. But maybe you're right, what am I thinking.

That only works if they succeed in getting a weaker candidate nominated.

Do you think McCain would have been easier for Gore and the Democrats to beat than Bush, back in 2000?

......i see your point, but there's a second, less common reason for tactical voting. Bush looked (and from my pov has proven to be) dangerous. If i'd had a vote in that election, considering how weak Gore appeared to me, i'd have gone for McCain because Bush was the lesser of two evils. Or to put it another way, the better of two republicans.

I don't think anyone was saying that Bush looked dangerous back in 2000. McCain is a moderate, and so he does appeal to certain other Liberals / Moderates, and that's the whole story I think, there is no need to overcomplicate it like this.

Well, he did look dangerous to me, but thats just my perception. Long range perspective and all. Of course, you're probably right in that was not a common perception down there......
