Status: offline 		I post frequently about the problems created by the ludicrous immigration policies of the UK and the difficulties we face due to those policies.
Now the other side of the coin.

Ghurka regiments are raised in Nepal and are a  fearsome part of the British Army. The are so committed to what they do that when the Argentinians for example found out they were coming  they  took a deep breath had a big shite and knew that their days were numbered.
Their reward? Those that  served  before 1997 cant stay in the UK. Disgraceful I say.

We get all kinds of deadbeats from here there and everywhere given handouts and sympathy and those that have actually put their lives on the the line for the UK are treated like this.

I simply carnt understand our ruling classes. Can you ?

2) Yonis Dirie, Somalian. Drug addict, armed robber and burglar. Convicted of raping a young woman in London. Illegal immigrant.
3) Tul Bahadur Pun VC, Nepalese. Won the Victoria Cross for taking out a Japanese machinegun post in 1944 in Burma single-handedly. Now 84, of unblemished conduct, suffering from heart problems and diabetes and would like treatment here. Legal applicant.
4) “AS”, Libyan. Islamic extremist involved with Milan terrorist group. Court accepts that he is likely to try to kill us all again quite soon. Illegal immigrant.

This is what we are up against. 1 2 and 4 were not deported because their life might at risk if they were.
This is what you get when you rely on experts !

Status: offline 		Seeks i fully agree, the Gurkhas have been treated shabily by succesive British governments going back years. How much would it have cost Brown to backdate pensions, to include those from before 1997.

Isn't promising Citizenship to the Slave Armies a traditional element of Empire?

Status: offline 		They volunteer, even today....massive oversubscription .Not every body hates the Brits.
I have seen them "on parade". Immaculate.
The creases in their trousers are so sharp they can be used as a weapon.

Status: offline 		Could it be... the lower class is given just enough to keep them in the game, and those who are strong and serve are being put back in their place afterward? Ya, know, wouldn't wanting them to think too much of themselves?

Status: offline 		The government is just being disgusting on this issue and I can't figure out why, I doubt there are many Brits that would object to the Ghurkas settling in Britain.

No but then I doubt the Ghurkas would call themselves a slave army. The British East India company which first recruited Ghurkas, recruited them because they were considered fantastic soldiers and they were professional soldiers (or mercenaries if you like) from the beginning. Brits don't consider them mercenaries because they have remained fantastically loyal which is why most Brits can't understand the British governments shabby treatment of them now.

still, if they want to come and stay, they should be enabled to under the new "points" system for non-EU migrants. "Serving the UK with distinction over x many years" should be fully sufficient to qualify.

and in reply to your wider question on the "ruling classes" - no, I dont get it at all, especially when the party now in power isnt generally the derivative of the inbred upper classes as found in other parties, but the derivative of those who fought and died alongside the Ghurkas, come from similar backgrounds etc

perhaps theyre worried about knife crime?

So in that case, would you support the right for them to have pension benefits equal to British Soldier?  One reason that they don't have rights is because Nepal is not a commonwealth country.
Bah humbug I say - they can die for us, but not with us?  I find it appalling.

Status: offline 		Absolutely, and if they wish to return to Nepal they should be able to live the good life.
They are due an excellent pension because I believe they have to "sign on" for the full 20 odd year term.

You make a great point, fargle.

During your country's War of Independence, the British promised freedom to every slave that would escape and take the King's shilling. Having lost the war, Britain was obliged to take these soldiers home to Blighty - accounts vary but they numbered in the tens of thousands. 

Must have done wonders for the gene pool because hardly anyone remembers they ever came!

Their contribution got diluted to the point of invisibility.

The case raised by Seeks reminds me of the Harkis. The context and history is totally different (the Harkis sided with France and betrayed their countrymen, the Gurkhas were involved in "noble" causes), but it's telling about the disregard motherships like France and Britain have for the people from their ex colonies.

They're all bloody immigrants, innit.

Everybody welcome  and lets forget those who have given good service.

Most peculiar. It cant possibly be financial what with all the money that is wasted on immigration in general.

Status: offline 		I too find the Ghurka situation in Britain apalling. My view, swear the Oath of Allegiance to the Queen as British Forces have to on enrolment, entitles you to a place in the Queen's country,  politicians should not even have a say in it. Anyone who is prepared to lay down their life in defence of a nation should be awarded full rights of a citizen of that country.

I have met Ghurka in civilian mode, and never before have I met such polite, honourable human beings as they. They might be ferocious killers, but off duty, they are of a standard most Britons can only dream of.

Hey, maybe that's it, they can't stay because they would show Britons to be nothing in comparison to them, they would show us our reality.

Absolutely. Equal pay and equal pension - I see no reason whatsoever why this should not be, along with the right to take up residence in the UK for them and their immediate families.
 
Although- apparently there are now lots of Poles who wish to join up too, but are currently forbidden. Given the problems we have with recruiting these days though, its only a matter of time. Do we give them (or anyone else) the right to remain?
 
And also on the "Polish question" - my town had a Polish consulate since WWII - thousands of Poles who had escaped the nazi/soviet invasion of 1939 came here and fought alongside us, and were given the right to remain afterwards and chose to live here. So there is precedent.
