MasterBlueTiger -> Subs versus Slaves? (3/18/2008 1:37:32 PM)

[8|]O.K. I am working to revamp my profile to include more lifestyle stuff and was looking for a little imput. Now I have seen a lot of people use the terms sub and slave in different ways. Sometimes interchangeably, sometimes in opposition to one another. Wondering what the common definitions on here were. For reference here is how I have been defining them-
submissive-somone who enjoys submitting for submittings sake. For the actual physical pleasure that comes from related activities.
slave-somone who submits out of a desire to serve others. Gains pleasure from the thought that they are pleasing and serving somone else more from the actual physical act.
I don't consider either to be inately superior. To each their own. Personally from the way I define them I am looking for somone who is more of a slave mentality, but am worried that their may be some confusion between the two.
I don't if this helps or figures in at all, but I am also looking for an eventual 24/7 TPE. Prefering to take things slow due to the fact that I have not heard of many rushed relationships with happy endings. As well am not looking for the "true" whatever, seems a bit unrealistic and extreme to me.
You could say I'm just not entirely sure how to translate these things into my profile as to be simple and not confusing.[>:]
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.[:)]

My suggestion: Enter the phrase "sub vs. slave" or just "sub" and "slave" into the search area. You will find hundreds of debates where people have expressed their reasons, some well and others not so well, for feeling the way they do. Not to put too fine a point on it, but these debates often get heated and you might be best served by looking at what people have already posted as some aren't interested in having the debate over and over again.

Personally.... I don't believe there is a difference. It's just a label that suits you.

submissive is to Dom/me   what    slave is to Master/Mistress
this can and will be viewed differantly by others.
to be a slave, you must be owned by another.

As far as I can tell, there aren't any.  To confirm what you have seen so far, people really do use the terms in almost as many ways as there are people.

Your definitions are as good as anyone else's. In case of a profile revamp, it wouldn't hurt to explain your own definitions and how you fit in to them.

labels are just that, dont try to label yourself. I know that you have to choose for this site, but dont freak out about it. flip a coin or something. be yourself and run with the relationship you find yourself in.

Come one, come all to the WWE-sponsored Sub vs. Slave mud-wrestlling Smackdown event!

Now, wouldn't that be more fun than fretting over the definitions of two little words (especially since one of the words doesn't even exist as a noun and the other describes something that can't legally exist)?

chaosforge -> RE: Subs versus Slaves? (3/18/2008 1:57:54 PM)

How about "slub" or "slab"..."sluve" "slabe"

TeachMeTonight -> RE: Subs versus Slaves? (3/18/2008 2:11:01 PM)

You know new people are coming aboard all the time, I have no trouble with the idea of being asked the same question again.  It would be a good idea to so some searching, however there are so many times those two terms would hit....

That being said, here is my two cents.

A submissive person is someone who enjoys submitting for the sake or submitting.  It does not mean they enjoy the acts that are asked of them.  I find the most powerful submission takes place when I am doing something I really don't like.  Service may are may not be a part of the dynamic.  One thing I do think about being submissive, it is a constant choice and I typically think of submission as something that can be chosen for each individual activity and order.

A slave is a someone who chooses to accept the dominance of another full time (within agreed limits) and typically does not have the choice for each act.  Of course they retain the right to walk away and say no, but they have essentially surrenderd to the will of another.  Ironically, I think that most slaves tend to be dominant personalities and have gone to the space of surrender.  This is an idea I heard from Master Skip in a workshop.  You might google him and see if you can find anything about his teachings.

The sub vs. slave discussion looks appealing in comparison, but I think that vocabulary could find a place in the right sci-fi novel.  (Except for "slab" - which is generally equated with "grave.")

Thanks, lots of good advice. By the way are those mud-wrestling tickets sold out yet?[;)]

daddyncherry -> RE: Subs versus Slaves? (3/18/2008 2:23:47 PM)

The best idea, is to state on your profile YOUR definition of the words, and what you personally are looking for. This way, whoever corresponds with you, will know what you mean by it...They can then add extra parts as to who they are and what they mean when they personally use the words....That way you will be on the same page as eachother, atleast from an understanding of what the other means.

and for someone who gains pleasure from both?  what would your label for them be?

this slave would suggest that instead of using the blanket generalization, "a submissive", you might consider that there are different motivations for submission, not neccessarily made any easier to ascertain by throwing the word "slave" in to compare it to.

determining the motivation behind this slave's submission made finding a compatible partner a LOT easier than trying to make a purely subjective label agree with another's.

submissive sexual orientation does not always come with submissive relationship orientation or even a submissive personality.  there are folks with all three, or any combination of the three.

then there are folks who don't submit at all, yet still affix the submissive label to themselves... they'd call themselves purple-spotted goats if it meant they'd be getting their itch scratched.[;)]

hope that's helpful for you and best of luck with your new profile![:)]

I guess it depends on cut, but wouldn't that be a rack?

The BDSM crossover into meat-cutter terminology is a little unsettling.
