I have a problem with physical punishments due to my past. What effective punishments are there that do not involve physical pain?

some non-painful punishments

mmmmmmmm made to read some of the threads in CM... oh wait.. that could be rather painful at times.... becareful how long you make the person read the thread... make them suffer but don't inflict pain.

The catholic school trick of sitting in an imaginart chair holding two arms out to the sides?

Um....extra domestic work?

Em....Writing assignments?

My Master does not give me physical punishments because if he gave physical ones well that would defeat the purpose of the punishment because I like it.Some examples are recording desicion 08 and making me watch two hours of it, or making me watch war dvds on world war 1 for 3 hours.

I rarely dole out physical punishments. In essence using my sub partner in the dungeon is something I/she/we enjoy. Kind of like punishing a child with chocolate ice cream.

The exceptions to this are the things she really hates, which can be a challenge to find. Once discovered though can be very powerfull.

I tend towards something similar to what some parents do: "Go into your room and think about what you've done" kind of stuff. I might tack on a writing assignment geared towards learning, growth and elimination of the "inappropriate" behavior.

It's pretty simple actually. If we are to assume you are being punished for inappropriate behavior, then whatever punishment is going to most closely address that violation and cause it to CHANGE for the better is what I'd recommend. Punishment doesn't really work for me. Teaching, guidance, correction and direction does. It's not about paying me back for what I did or failed to do. It's about ensuring that the next time, appropriate behavior will replace inappropriate. That's not fun and kinky, but that's what works with us

But, to answer your exact question, a couple things that have worked for me were (temporary) extra rules, restriction of privileges and writing assignments pertaining to the issues that caused disobedience.............luci

another option would be silent time. Either you are unable to speak, or your Dom/me/others are to ignore you completely for a period of time

I am pretty new to all this but so far I use cornertime or chain him up to the stair handrail. I want punishments that give him quiet time so he can think about his wrongdoing and isnt getting my attention. Oh and I really enjoy chaining him up so theres usually bondage involved. I might as well be enjoying it some right? I am still working on new ideas.

Enjoying that you now have to rethink and reconfigure your methods and figure out why they haven't been working? Is the fulfillment of training and discipline only in the success then? I don't know (my relationship doesn't work that way), so I'm asking.

For me, not completely. But if it's gotten to the point where actual time and energy must be taken for punishment, then to me that's a sign that somethings seriously going wrong and I don't enjoy that.

Another thing my Master does do punish me, because I love to talk and I am quite a chatterbox lol

the classic ones that i've used on UM's many times before involves pennies.

hold a penny to the wall with your nose, hands clasped behind your back. sadistic version: have barney singing in the background.

hold your hands out to your sides, back of the hands upwards. a penny is placed on the back of each hand. dont drop them. this one gets one's attention VERY fast.

for me personally? i dont need physical punishments, i am crushed enough if i have to be reprimanded. although i *have* been given writing assignments that are designed to teach me, not just to make me repeat something ("write this sentence five hundred times!")
