I agree with your friends assessment of Hef's woman.

I have to admit that 40 years I bought into the whole Playboy thing. I just didn't have the money to pull it off.

Over the years reality set in and having turned 65 this month I know it will never happen unless I won Powerball last night. Money still talks even at my age.[:)]
Just can't find anyone that's interested so I sit home alone.

Which brings up the poisoned side of "Playboy" this magazine sets unrealistic goals for men, every bit as much as Barbie does for little girls. The Playboy fantasy: To have multiple huge houses, babes lying around (all of whom are sexualy available to you) all the best cars, the best stereo equipment, best food and wines.... It's what psychologists call "and invitation to suffer" because you immediately begin making comparisons between this artifical ideal, and the way your life is lived. Depression often results.

I've always found "Easyriders" to be a better "mens mag" than Playboy ever was. At least its acheivable by the average guy.

Strange how there aren't any "mens mags" for computer geeks. Well, there was "Future Sex", but it didn't last long. (Too bad really... Lisa Palac was pushing that 'zine into some much needed new territory.)

Is that why so many men have commitment issues? Is that we all think that IF we stay single that we will find a Hot Model with a never ending Sex drive? or that as long as we are not tied down then we have the chance to bang every woman that comes down the road?

This may sound stupid, but I imagine that its more work being Hugh Hefner or Mystery for the new generation. Than actually being the person inside the persona.

I am commitment averse for two very clear reasons:

1 - I have quite high standards, and I refuse to compromise them under any circumstances.  I don't enjoy the company of most people, and I don't mind being alone, so for someone to be worth any level of commitment, they need to be very compelling as an individual.  The end result is that I can count, on one hand with three spare fingers and one thumb, the number of people I've ever found I'd be willing to make a genuine commitment to.

2 - In general, I don't trust people.  I'm very patient with regard to humans.  I have to wait to see someone in a situation where their true colors will emerge before I'm going to be willing to even consider any kind of commitment, and those do not arrive on a day to day basis.  I would rather, however, be at least somewhat secure in my judgment than in the dark.

Therefore, someone would both have to meet my standards and demonstrate to me that they are the kind of person I could trust in a truly commited relationship before I'd jump in; to be fair, I expect they would judge me on the same criteria.

I confess I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling donut about "the chance to bang every woman that comes down the road", to paraphrase Vonnegut, regarding the initial post, though.  I'm just a loner.  I don't sleep around because, in general, I tend to be unwilling to sleep with most people under any circumstances.

Edit: Regarding playboy and that ideal... why?  It seems like such a hollow, meaningless existence to me.  Maybe that's just a personal preference issue, though.

Fantasies are often best left as that. Whenever I see Heff I'm reminded of a rapidly aging man desperately clinging to youth, almost incestuously so given that some of those girls bear a striking resemblance to him. I saw an interview with him/one of his girls and she sat there simpering away, when the interviewer asked her a question she giggled, giggled some more, began to answer it, followed by more giggling and then announced, "What did you ask me?" and more giggles. Kind of speak volumes. I would imagine a guy would prefer a 'realdoll', b/c while expensive, they'd be less expensive in the long-run and likely have greater longevity.

It's a great fantasy, I admit. It's right up there with winning Powerball or something like that. But, does the "Playboy" philosophy hald any sway over guys these days? The philosophy seems almost quaint, in a sexist way.

No, this guy doesn not want to be Hef. I enjoy being with my wife, and playing around with the few select friends that I have. My life is rich, although my pockets are not. No reason to be greedy. :)

it is rather pathetic.   i understand there is beauty to it- but best appriated by someone close to the same age/maturity.

true that the magazines set up men with false expectations.

...it seems to fake

tho- if that is what a guy really wants- then i guess go for it.

i know that what is fun in bed isnt necessarily the type I would spend a week with. so like you said- often the fantasies are best left behind.

No, I wouldn't want to be Hefner.
I wouldn't mind "half" of his lifestyle though.
But, I wouldn't want to be "famous" at all!
That brings on a whole new set of problems I simply wouldn't want.
If say I hit the powerball for a lot of money, I'd buy a big house in Malibu and get 4-6 nice young ladies to live with me of child bearing age and have some kids as I was too busy taking care of the country's business to have any at that time.
Also, instead of having a limosine I'd get a fully functioning fire truck with a custom luxury interior.
Oh yeah, and I'd have a studio on my property and make B&D fuck movies and have someone make and run a site online for me.
So, I could "somewhat" live that lifestyle if I had the money and could remain anonymous.
