Well, unless I want the carpet at the bedroom door removed, I have to let KB in......he'll dig it right up off the tack strips....which hurt like a mother bear when they are stepped on!  I did have him and the dog trained to leave me alone when the bedroom door was shut, but when I moved in with a friend, all the doors were open, and I'd always wake up to find my 3 and her 2 on the waterbed.  The kicker was that she had the bigger waterbed....but did they go suck up her bed space????  N-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O, they had to come to me.

When I finally build my house, they will have their own little room with climbing stuff in it, I have an enclosed courtyard planned for them to play in, and I'm planning on putting an aviary in to give them something to look at.  Now THAT"S what I call being "owned and operated by the cats"....sorry, Greedy, I'm swiping your sig line, but damn...it is SO true!   Actually, the courtyard will be for people too.....but it's mainly to give them an opportunity to go outside without me having to worry about them.

I've also put them all on their leashes and taken them to a local park.....people look at me like they've never seen something like that before!  But with all the dogs running around, that's not always practical.  One day I went, the only thing that was in the park on 4 legs that was leashed were my cats!

hee heee...been there, done that with 4 kitties on the bed + my partner at the time and the dogs on the floor

I have been thinking along the lines of a sun room for them to sun themselves and me to have indoor plants.

Actually, the courtyard will be for people too.....but it's mainly to give them an opportunity to go outside without me having to worry about them.

And you can plant cat oats, mint and grass for them without having every wandering neighborhood cat tear
up your garden.

Vendeval, I already grow the grass for them....OMG!!!  They love the stuff!  As long as I have that around, they will leave my plants, what little I have, be.  It's like watching little cows grazing.  I did try getting fresh, growing catnip, but for some reason, they wouldn't touch the stuff....now the dried stuff in the baggie.....KB can get into any drawer or cupboard and get anything he wants, so there have been many occasions that I have come home to find the ripped open bag laying on the floor, and 3 totally stoned cats rolling in the catnip......and it's so much fun to mess with them when they are high!  Especially when I get the laser pointer out and make them run in a circle.....dizzy AND stoned......it's a million laughs!  Yeah, I'm a little sick, but don't worry, they get even!  Bastages!

Hee Hee...you said, "laser pointer"!

Yes, growing plants for them should keep them away from the plants you don't want them eating or using as a litter box, at least in theory.  I had some cactus in the kitchen that had little teeth marks on it once, but only once.  [;)]
