cyberdude611 -> Kentucky wants to make anonymous posting illegal (3/10/2008 10:13:49 PM)

You will have to register your name, phone, email, and physical address to any website you post a comment to if a Kentucky lawmaker has his way. He wants to end anonymous posting of messages on the internet.

He says the intent is not to go after people with political opinions or attack free speech, but to end cyber-bullying and online harrassment.

Cyber-bullying and online harrassment?
Oh please!
If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
The trailer park people down there must have gotten computers in the last year.
"You mess with me, you mess with the whole trailer park!"

I think in these troubling times of government run constant surveillance, this is the last thing we need.
The internet is one of the last bastions of free speech we have left. If our personal information is displayed for any one who happens to disagree with us. They can simply take that information and "google" our phone number, address, and some times even where we work. If this is truly to stop cyber bullying then people need thicker skins. This would open people up to actual phsyical attacks.

Hmm you called me a poopy head and said I was stupid online.. or some wack job is on my door step because he knows my name, and googled me. Let us think...

What the fuck is in the water in DC? Crack!?!?!?!

I am not one who normally weighs in here, but I think the good gentleman from Kentucky really needs to study law before proposing such a law...  Basically it will force every company who is NOT based in KY but yet acts as an internet host to block KY from accessing any content that they host or serve.  Why?  Simple, ever saw a state government that told a national government, let alone a foreign government what to do?  How is the KY government going to enforce such a law based on a site that is hosted by a company in Amsterdam?  Or Japan for that matter?  It is a absolute impossibility, unless he can manage to persuade the entire world to see his point of view...  And personally, I just don't see that happening...  Not to mention how easy is it to enter someone else's info, not to mention totally false info?

He'll be shot down, if there's any sense in this world.

Sure, cyber bullying can be a problem for people.  Hell, I've seen some regulars uniformly bitch out a new member posting a question here in OT in what was a rather disheartening display of immaturity.  Still, it's the net.  There are too many advantages to let the little stupid things ruin it.

Emotionally stability's really quite underrated.

Does anyone here think our ip's are not logged into any site we post to?   They just want to make it legal for them to get their hands on that info.

Look what we all found out about our governments collectively since the internet!   I am sure they would love to control that as we get to log all their bullshit on utube and replay it a zillion times at liesure to compare notes.  Everything they do not show on tv is here in triplicate.

Keep the internet free people.  {awaiting approval}

While I'd agree many egos are quite frail, I'd like to point in that, in Nam, you shot back.  Personally, I'd like to avoid cyber-slap fights as much as possible- if nothing else, because I simply don't find them amusing.

and pray how is said Kentuckian, or indeed anyone else to know whether I really am who I say I am? as an employer I have sufficient personal details of my employees to register as any or all of them - and failing that, there is always the phone book, which handily lists names, addresses and phone numbers.

if anyone is using the net to break the law, its already possible for the authorities to trace them anyway.

xBullx -> RE: Kentucky wants to make anonymous posting illegal (3/11/2008 5:11:09 AM)

God I hate laws....................

Are we all that incapable of taking care of ourselves?

I have always been who I am and didn't need a damn law to inspire honesty.

If you're a fraud you'll be exposed without the laws. What does this say about Kentucky?

Moooo,

Perve away...  Just know I don't tip that much of My hand in My profile... *S* I want people to actually to take the time and get to know Me through discussion more then just words written in static form...  They tend to lack the dynamics of a real conversation to find out if people are really compatible or not...
