Yeah I agree, its not about bitching or whatever its an attempt to have you almost discredited so no one touches you with a ten foot pole.

Most of us indulge in idle gossip to a certain extent, but there's a kind of malicious gossip that is meant to hurt. Rumours are its favourite weapon.

Some people need to get lives away from trying to hurt others :-( .

People hurt others because it makes them feel better (i dont mean that in a BDSM sense but in a nasty way)

Yeah, it's unfortunate, but a lot of people suck in a lot of differing ways. Whether it's to be vicious, manipulate situations, make themselves feel better by dishing dirt on someone else or what have you, don't let it wear you down. Consider the source, mitigate what you think you can and/or need to then just ignore the rest. To engage in gossip has been a pasttime as long as there have been at least 3 people on the planet. One talk to about and two others to talk about them. You don't have to lower your standards, acknowledge the gossip, explain it or engage in it unless you choose to do so.

Drama.

Very good at it.

Still a hard limit.

And I'm a Dom.

To the original OP I hate malicious gossip BDSM or not. If it is about real people that you know and you are telling it that is just wrong! If it is celebrity gossip with the girls than I'm all for it. When my friends and I are talking gossip about celebrities Daddy gets kinda mad. He asks me "do you personally know those people"? I will say "no", he will say "Then why talk about them it is stupid because you don't even know them". Master is right though, but my girlfriends get me started on it and it gets me into trouble lol.

I have to admit to being a person who likes gossip. I just like information. Gossip as second hand information usually requires confirmation, but in most instances that isn't hard to get. Also, in most instances, gossip isn't malicious. It's about people you know who got new jobs, broke up with so-and-so, did this hilarious/stupid thing at a party, etc etc etc. Not everyone can have a livejournal, so friends have to help disseminate information about other friends, sometimes even when we don't want them to. That's just what being part of a community is :)

The malicious gossip is usually easily noticeable for what it is. To wit, it is usually completely vague. "That Dom is abusive!" Really? How so? "He used to beat a friend of mine." Well, how? Did he give her a black eye, put her in the hospital with internal bleeding, what? They never know details. On rare occasions you meet one of those chronic liars who will just make up a story, but those details are easily verified or not.

I'm pretty out and open about everything in my life (and I have a livejournal) so I don't think people gossip about me much because everybody already knows everything of interest. If I do hear about people gossiping about me, I think "People are talking about ME? I feel so special!"

The old adage:  Don't complain, don't explain.  The rest tends to take care of itself.

Not at all. Why would I?

Well, you quoted my comment and then said:

A perfect example of nameless gossip  .

As for why would you, only you would know the answer to that.

A perfect example of a completely surrealistic exchange... but yes - now, we both know the answer to that  .

PS: now, you need to erase it lol.

No, I don't know. Is it worthy of gossip?

really who cares? I know who I am. I know what kind of person I am. If someone is going to be affected by gossip without having the intelligence of finding out who I am and what kind of person I am themselves then I dont want them in my life anyway.

So many people get impressions about you and call it truth. its their truth because it is all they can see. You can tell people truth and yet they choose to not believe it. So really, they can continue to talk behind my back and I will be happily dancing and having a good time with my fun loving friends who see through to my spirit. The rest have their own agenda that I dont wish to be a part of.

A long time ago (help, I'm getting old!) I had someone who I cared about believe a bit of gossip someone spread about me and rather than ask me about it, she started acting odd and out of sorts until I finally had it out with her.  When I realized she chose to believe someone else rather than come to me and ask about it, I knew she was not the friend for me.  That was a big life lesson...

Exactly!

You know, as a teacher I have found students having opinions of my motives that were not based in reality but that were twisted by their own view of the world. For instance, I am not going out of my way to be mean to my students and make things hard for them. I have had some actually think this.

If you see the world as a place where you cant trust people and everyone is no good than everyone will be seen that way even if they are not. the only person who can change this is them. Its an inside job so why should i bother trying to convince some not to believe what they have heard about me. they will form their opinions however they choose to.

Being a teacher, LL, you must deal with gossip about yourself a LOT.  I have 3 kids in grades 1, 7 and 9...  I've heard just about every kind of story you can imagine about various teachers - why one is good, why one is lousy, etc., etc.  Ad nauseum.  I learned to take everything I hear with a grain of salt and go with my experiences. I give you a lot of credit for teaching!  I could deal with the kids ... the parents, OTOH... not so much.  lol
