Whether you back Senator Obama, or Senator Clinton, how do you feel about the prospect of the nomination being decided by a hand full or power brokers?

Better, I think, than I would if I were a Romney supporter, knowing that the nomination was decided by the RNC before most of the rank-and-file of the party got a chance to express an opinion.  At least the super-delegate thing is somewhat transparent - folks know about it and can see what's going on and who the players are.  The handful of power brokers aren't working it out amongst themselves behind closed doors like they did on the Republican side.

The RNC seems to be doing this pretty often - choosing their candidate before the race really starts and encouraging the challengers to drop out.  It was pretty blatant in the 2002 Sentate contest here in MN.  I can understand why the RNC would want to do this, and since the conceding challengers get some plum or another I can see why they'd go along with it, but I don't understand why more rank-and-file Republicans aren't raising the roof about it.  Maybe they're okay with having the RNC pick their candidate, but if that's the case I don't understand why they're making such a stink about the super-delegate stuff.  To take some pokes at the Democrats, I guess.

Again assuming the 'math' sited in the article is accurate, would you prefer the loser of the elected delegate count conceed the nomination or have the 'superdelegates' fight it out in smoky back-rooms at the convention?

I like the idea of fighting it out at the convention and wish that there were more of the original contenders still in the race on both sides.  Once the candidates are chosen, what little real discussion of the actual issues there was pretty much evaporates and it becomes all us-against-them, all about the horse-race.  We learn more about these folks when they're trying to talk to their own than when they're trying to talk to all of us.  Once the real campaign starts, we're not going to hear much of substance from either side.  While I don't think that Edwards would have won the nomination, if he had held on to his delegates going into the convention some of the issues he really cared about - and that I really care about - that are on the back burner for the others would have gotten more attention.
