Tweezers might be easier.

I can only get one or two with tweezers.  I can deforest each nostril with one or two yanks if I use Craftsman tools.

LOL I think everyone sells gift cards now.    They just don't honor them!

One scam is to write down the numbers of gift cards, wait a week or so, and then call the company to find out how much money is on it, and order stuff.

Sinergy

p.s.  I have hit a point in my life and my income that I wander around with cash, keep credit cards locked up at home, and give people actual gifts based on what I know of them.  The brain dead aspect of giving gift certificates is obnoxious.

Just saw this, after your other post.  I'm backwards sometimes...  :)

Yeah, I've heard about that scam.  People getcha where they can, don't they?

I agree with your idea of gift giving, and practice that with my own friends and family.  Gift cards came into play for me with my corporate world.

My parents know what I want too, or in a general sense, cause I always say I want crafts, or some such thing, or I say specifically a gift card so I can go an hunt something down later. it has nothing to do with them being brain dead, or impersonall or not knowing me.  Or one time I told my dad for his christmas pressi I would take him to the book store and he could pick out a bunch of books up to 30 dollars. that way less paper was wasted on wrapping an we actually did something as a family.

I understand what you mean, YourhandMyAss, but I sometimes get gift certificates from people I am close to, who know me, for stores I have no desire to ever go in (Sharper Image, Nordstroms).  These are people who know how much I love home improvement, fishing, camping, boating, hiking, whatever, but do I ever see a gift certificate to Sears or REI?  No.

Part of my mind when I am out and about is looking for things for the people in my life.  I find them, put them in the closet, and when Christmas or birthdays or whatever rolls around, I am prepared for it.

What is weird is they almost invariably exclaim how thoughtful my gifts are.  This does not mean that many of them actually apply thought to the gifts they get me.

Not that they have to get me anything, Im just sayin...

what a lovely racket, take the customer's money and give them worthless plastic they'll have no chance to redeem before you close up shop!  if i'm giving money i'm giving the actual cash, a gift card can be subject to whatever the retailer decides to do.

I actually have it on good authority that a chemist in Pennsylvania somewhere is working on a plan to re-convert plastic back into oil, and then, gasoline.

He says he believes he can get one tablespoon of oil from one credit card.

I'm guessing, based on prices I've seen at the pump recently, a 25 dollar gift card will be cost effective as a potential fuel resource within 3 to  4 months.

Oh. See that is kind of brainless, or selfish, like they couldn't bother going to stroes they KNEW  you'd like and so grabbed any old gift card from any old store they happend to be in.

Or like my mom, who'll buy you gifts not based on what you like, but based on what SHE thinks you should have. Like i tell her every year, no makeup,no jewlerly,no clothing,  no personal hygein items, and one year she bought me this giant kit of makeup, most of them were not even colors I would ever wear like green and blue and oranges,  last year it was a watch set, and the watch set was nice I actually would wear a watch, but the band is 4 links to small and it's not digital. If I was going to wear a watch full time I would like it to be digital for ease of reading.

Bankruptcy makes gift cards worthless
By ANNE D'INNOCENZIO, AP Business WriterMon Mar 3, 6:00 PM ET

You know that Sharper Image gift card you got for Christmas? Right now, it's worthless. And other gift cards in your wallet could lose their value, too.

As more retailers file for bankruptcy or go out of business, more than $75 million in gift cards are at risk of becoming worthless pieces of plastic this year.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080303/ap_on_re_us/bankruptcy_gift_cards&printer=1

Crazy stuff, considering the gift card is already paid for....

Just read something in INC Magazine, March 2008 issue:

www.PlasticJungle.com

Some kind of place where you can actually trade gift cards (you don't have a Target in your area {and got a Target gift card for Xmas}...but you love the stuff at Macys {and someone else doesn't have a Macy's and got a Macy's}...etc.)....might be a fee involved (didn't look at the website)...probably is...some % to pay the house...would make sense.

Wait! don't throw away that Sharper Image gift card, just yet. They announced, yesterday, that they will be accepting them, again, with some restrictions.
I know, it's BS, why should they put restrictions on the money that has already been paid to them, but at least you don't have to put that card in the trash can (yet!). My guess is, they reached that descision after being threatened, by some clever attorney, of a class action suit.
