Wikipedia's entry:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cupping

For BDSM purposes, cupping can be done with or without fire to create sensations that range from mild to quite intense, depending on where they're placed, how much vacuum is created and how long they're left on.  Blood play can also be done with cupping.  Cupping can be used to sensitize the skin prior to other types of play and it can be used for aftercare for the submissive.  Submissives can also learn to do it for their dominants as a service, as cupping can be used as an adjunct to massage.

Saskia, seems to me on my last visit, you had found a gel that worked quite well as a fuel for cupping. What was that? I think it was some kind of hand or hair gel that had a high alcohol content? (I bought a set of really perfect candle holders that seem to be made for doing this just last year, but so far haven't found a partner locally who is willing to experiment with me. (Same ol' story.... *sigh*)

Wow one of my fav topics , where to begin. Yes there are fire cups , made from pottery or glass ,even bamboo .there are vac cup sets you can get  most are plastic , some are glass ,some have magnets others have accupoints to them .Still others  are  just trigger activated with a valve release .
Before i ever did cupping on anyone i studied the art ,the body itself , and its meridians .I personalty only like to do fire cupping and Blood cupping , not a big fan of the vac  cupping .
I find that cupping not only releases body toxins it works very well to center the subject and enhances energy work .
You can use one or two cups applied  with the right pressure and move them  about the body  , or place many  onto the body .If your wishing to be able to move the cups  i suggest glycerin  oil  applied prior to the  cups .Makes it easier to move when wanted.
Many different  glass cups can be used  from votive holder , to shot glasses .Just make sure there are no defects in the glass that your  working  with .The older medical glass cups can also be found "i am looking for more of those now " they can be found OL sometimes in antique stores .www.medicaltoys.com may have some media and supplies .
Getting first hand experience maybe tough sometimes  but help much on getting correct form and placements .
I have had 30 on me at one sitting and every time  i get cupped i sleep like a baby , i find it very relaxing .The squid attack marks you get from cupping can last for days to weeks depending on how long they are left on the body and how much suction is used .Also skin tone plays a part  like i am very light fare skinned so that makes mine stick around  longer .
Soft tissue can be done yet not recommended it can be tough to release at time s .
hope that helps your journey .

I have seen it done, and it is quite ominous looking - the way the skin gets sucked up into the cups, but the sub that bottomed the demo said it actually felt VERY good - almost like a deep massage. I just know, if you are doing ANY fire play, best to have a third nearby with a wet towel, fire extinguisher, etc. You know the old saying...if you play with fire...so BE SAFE!

Speaking strictly as a recipient, cupping is painless and fun.  As others have mentioned, it is really just another form of tactile stimulation that looks wicked-cool.  i'm not sure what the downsides would be unless the suction was applied for an extended length of time.  And yes, 'hickies' can occur but geez a small price to pay to suddenly have huge nipples!  my advice?  Have a mirror close by and enjoy.

It is called gel fuel...some fireplaces use it. And outdoor cook thingies can use it too.

thank you all who have replied...i'm curious, though...can there be pain involved or is there just the marking?  would there be more pain depending on the placement of the cups?

It feels nice. I have never felt pain by it at all, neither with the fire cups, or the standard suction set.  Although the standard set does have little pokey things that can be used on sensitive areas and those can be uncomfortable on puffy skin.  Still, there is nothing painful about it.

One of the members in my local groups is certified as a massage therapist, though it's not his profession currently. He brought his massage table, cupping set and such to the last campout and I watched him do a lot of massages and quite a few cuppings during that weekend. He did a partial deep tissue massage on me even. The one thing I noticed most about each cupping was that afterwards each recipient was all but melting off the table and all felt great after the cupping. Of course the same could be said for those who had just the massage as well .

I have been looking for fire cups (kinda like the bamboo, but) everywhere I look the shipping is so damned expensive. for 8 sets of the 3 at 3.50 the damn shipping is like 40 bucks.

Anyone can help a cheap ass norwegian out?

For those looking for cups ,check the net , check oriental stores , ask around ,check your areas antique stores ,flea markets ,yard sale ,Yes yard sale i got a set for 5 bucks  8 cups once .Its not a common item but persitance usually pays  off .
The clay and bamboo are even tougher to get a hold of .Atleast with the glass cups they can be  had or something like a votive candle holder can be perverted for use .
Can pain be involved ? Oooh yes  it sure can for those wishing to experience pain or inflict it , the act of twisting and tugging and pulling upon the cups ,or pushing them into the  skin even slightly shall give you what your seeking .
If you have a violet wand you can also place something  like a penny inside and have elctro transfer  shock through the glass cup.

The magic fluid is hand sanitizer, like Purell.  Glycerin + alcohol.  An acupuncturist taught me a more efficient way to do cupping, using a wick and regular, high-proof rubbing alcohol, but I still like using the hand sanitizer for blood cupping because it turns blood into a weird little puck that looks like canned cranberry jelly.

Oh I own both types of cupping sets, plus a nice violet wand, along with a variety of electric play intstuments and much more.  Since I rebuilt my bag it is full of all my favs.
I just didn't know you could use a penny in a cupping set and spark it with the wand.
If that danged wand didn't set me into subspace on contact I would do it to myself as a test.  Looks like I need to find a guineapig for that.

Saskia > do they allow Fire play at Thunder ? I have been to some events that they could not do fire yet blood was ok .. gylcerin is very virsital stuff and cheap , helping lube the body to allow cups to ahere and  yet slide too .Great mixing agent to coat the inside of the cups too .

They/we (I DM sometimes) allow everything at Thunder, as long as it isn't damaging the furniture or space or interfering in other sessions.  People were doing suspension hooks last summer and the suspension frame was only rated to allow people to swing to a certain height.  I had to be the jerk DM that stepped in and asked the top to not swing his girl quite so high since the frame wasn't built for it.  Fire and body fluid play has been out in the garage the past couple of years, but we're back at a different hotel this year and I'm guessing there won't be an extra, outside dungeon this time.  Fire play's been allowed indoors before, though.

I use massage oil I get at a Chinese pharmacy to make my cups slide around.  Or blood.   I also make fire cups out of ice, which is fun.
