All of a sudden the liberal media decides to start smearing McCain....
The New York Times just unloads on McCain including a claim that McCain was having an affair with a female lobbyist during his presidential campaign 8 years ago.

I wonder why the Times doesnt have a piece criticizing Obama? Will we ever see one? Not in the NYT. A rag of a paper. Why doesn't the NYT or the rest of the media for that matter report on the allegations that the Obama campaign bussed people into Iowa from his home state next door to participate illegally in the Iowa caucuses?

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/us/politics/21mccain.html?ei=5065&en=30275248afff65bf&ex=1204174800&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print

The media in this country is a joke...

McCain campaign's response...
“It is a shame that The New York Times has lowered its standards to engage in a hit-and-run smear campaign. John McCain has a 24-year record of serving our country with honor and integrity. He has never violated the public trust, never done favors for special interests or lobbyists, and he will not allow a smear campaign to distract from the issues at stake in this election.
“Americans are sick and tired of this kind of gutter politics, and there is nothing in this story to suggest that John McCain has ever violated the principles that have guided his career.”

If the media told people what they didn't want to hear, would they get their ratings?

Republicans, for better or worse, are unpopular right now.  The media's going to lean more liberal than normal right now, either by choice or natural selection; likely a combination.

You see that theory would be true if the media was ever in the GOP's favor. They've never been.

OH Jeeze, now they're "reporting" on 8 year old alleged affairs?

"The New York Times,.....Enquiring Minds Want to Know!"

I thought they were supposed to go bankrupt or something because their circulation is, ... "shrinking."
Cripes, they're turning into a Tabloid now.
I can see the front page next week, "Hillary had "lovechild" with space alien while in Yale law school!"

"I wonder why the Times doesnt have a piece criticizing Obama?"

Because Obama already admitted to everything he possibly could have already. And if you are really looking for something anti-Obama here:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/113672

i myself am a Obama supporter but my mom is GOP all the way. And people guess what this may come as a shock but YOU control the media. What you want to know they will put out the info but they also go by this: Timeliness, Novelty, Proximity, Prominence, Impact, Conflict
This story fits Novelty, Prominence, Conflict, and Timeliness since he is running for presidency.
Sheesh Bill gets a BJ and conservatives bark but McCain has an affair and you cry fowl. Neither really matter but something i find interesting.

I think its important to point out a bias. If the NYT wanted to put out an article on scandals that happened decades or more years ago with the presidential candidates, they should have have done one on the GOP side and one on the Democrat side (or one big one with both sides). They would have a field day with Hillary alone.

This was a very biased article. It gives the impression that McCain is a crooked politician while the Democrat candidates have never done anything wrong. That's bad journalism.

In reality, I really dont have a horse in this race. Hillary, McCain, Obama....it doesn't matter....they are going to be terrible. Im looking to 2012 before we might be able to get someone decent in there. But I really do not see fairness in the media at all. Obama is getting a free pass. And even Hillary's supporters have been saying that for months now.

This comes as a surprise, since usually it seems that its the "right wing media" thats being complained about here.

Still, just to redress the balance a little

Obama Admits
"Yes, I am black"

In a shock announcement yesterday, presidential candidate
Barack Obama admitted that he is, and has been all his life,
a black man, after coming under increasing pressure due to
an undercover investigation by this newspaper.

Aides and staff at his campaign headquarters were today
"unavailable for comment", but voters across the US have
been outraged by the news, given during a press conference
yesterday afternoon. "We feel misled" said one member of
the party who had donated to the cause, "all this time he's
been promising change and a better future, and now we
find out he's black".

Rival for the Democratic nomination Hilary Clinton urged
the party and the electorate to swallow the news and get
on with business as usual, but Republican commentators are
cautioning wariness about under the table deals going on
behind closed doors.

hmm...i'm black, a female, and i like McCain...not love- but like...knew of him long before i knew of Obama, and i feel it's unfair to let sex, or pigmentation determine my choice...HOWEVER...where's Kenneth Starr now?  They jumped on Bill about bj's like he let Bin Laden suck him off...turnabout is fair play.  Republican's used the morals police to put Bush in office...it was a cutthroat lowdown tactic...but successful nonetheless.  Perhaps karma should be considered in politics more often.

The New York Times has zero credibility with me.

If the New York Times ran a banner headline -

2+2=4

I'd get a pencil and a piece of paper and do the math, just to be sure.

Another article from the 'liberal media'.

the right wing fear mongers are always going on about how they get fucked and how the sky is falling.....they are simply full of shit.

Its so unfair, so unfair!!!  Learn to work it out, don't walk out of congress, don't disparage everyone who is not neo-con, actually show some thought and intelligence and it may be repaid in return.

Note that the same sort of buffoons who point out an article here or there that may be less than idolatrous of the GOP in any vein, are the same ones who have splashed several anti dem threads, Obama the Muslim, can he get ghetto, how democrats surrendered the war,  Obama accused of plagiarism........this sort of thing all under the guise of balanced and right reason....and also by the same biased liberal media.

Calling out around the world, BULLSHIT!!!!!

Ron

Interesting that the New York Times endorsed McCain on Jan. 25th. Why would they do that if they had this story?
And if you read the story, there is nothing there. It's all innuendo and anonymous sources.
Just when you think the NY Times can't sink any lower, it does.

Ah the "liberal media" I think that might be my favorite of the right-wing conspiracy theories out there today. If all the media is liberal I wonder who broke the story about the media being liberal. But seriously though it is the middle of an election right now the media isn't liberal or conservative they are just dumb, and constantly in the search of anything worthy of running about the election. Whether that is McCain's relations with an aide, Obama borrowing a line or two from somebody's speech, or Hillary not being womanly enough because she wears pantsuits. All of these have been frequently debated topics now on all media outlets in the past few days, while potentially world changing events like the resignation of Castro, the overwhelming results of the Pakistani elections, and Kosovo's declaration of its independence get mentioned only in relation to what those events might mean for Americans at the pump. There's plenty to criticize about the media, it's liberal or conservative leanings are among the least important of those.
