subvertme -> MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 3:27:08 PM)

A recent post in my journal has solicited a lot of feedback. Apparently, i have hit a positive nerve with a lot of folks on CM who are annoyed by the same phenomenon:

Aimless accumulation of people on one's CM profile by just adding anyone with a sexy pic to their Friends community. I get a ton of these, since i apparently have the look of the mindless drone of the Britney/Lindesy obsessed GQ subs and Doms, where people simply add me to their Friends community without exchanging a single word before or after.

It makes me wonder whether CM is becoming some kink-laden version of the social networking web sites. BDSM is secondary, looking fab and sexy is all that matters.

Out of curiosity - how do You/you feel about this new feature and how people use it to adorn their profiles with flocks of mindless (yet cute) butterflies?

Respectfully,

des

This is a quote from my own profile:

"I do not accept friend requests. If you want to be my friend, email me and suggest a time we could meet in real life. I have several Platonic friends with active CM profiles. I use this online medium as a tool to enhance my real-life interactions, not as a substitute for them."

StormsSlave -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 3:35:02 PM)

Well, actually...this is a mykinkspace.  It's exactly like myspace except that you can't customize your profile with html.  I love myspace, myself, since it keeps me in touch with all my friends.  If you don't want to be friends with people, reject the request.

Nineveh -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 3:36:51 PM)

I have only ever added tried to add one person as a friend, and she ended up deleting her profile, but I expect over time I'll use it to be able to more easily keep track of the people I interact with often.

Actually, I don't think a lot of them are trying to add you because you look mindless. I think they want to add you because its like having arm candy. You're young, reasonably attractive and submissive. Having you and others like you on their "friends list" makes them look more attractive. If they haven't bothered to contact you, I sincerely doubt they even consider your mind at all ...

I had this problem with my old profile. I don't post pics now ... So far, no friend requests ... We'll see how it goes.

I think the "friends circle thing" can be cool ... I mean, I added someone. Of course that someone and I have considered actually hanging out at some point in the future and I think that someone's pretty darn cool. Its all a matter of perspective.

I hate myspace too, btw.

FRSguy -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 3:43:20 PM)

I hate this new feature!  Just today I have gotten like four requests that I have no...fing... clue as to who these people.

daddyncherry -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 3:45:00 PM)

i have it listed clearly on my profile that i will only add you..

A) if i actually do know you in r/t (which is the majority of my small list)
B) if i chat with you regularly (which are very few people)
C) if i recognize you from posting regularly on the forums and know where you stand on things.

i want to keep my/our little profile as real as possible so i reject anyone who attempts to add me otherwise. Also, since i'm not seeking anyone outside of the LA area to play with i am not super concerned about getting the profile out there to the masses more by appearing on just anyone's list.

PsyVamp -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 3:58:13 PM)

I just don't bother adding the people that I don't know.  I have added the people that I talk to on a regular basis or that I consider friends, but I haven't even added all of them.  I too look to see if the people are on the boards here, I'd rather know more about someone than what they look like.

i only have 3 friends in my list ...i like the feature of having to accept.  what i hate is the admirer's list...they can add you automatically without consent.

charlotte12 -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 4:51:15 PM)

Yes this slave dislikes that feature as well.  She has it stated in her profile that she won't add you if she doesn't know who you are.  If you're not someone a girl knows in real life or chat with regularly you will be rejected!! [;)]

Kana -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 5:05:25 PM)

I never do friends.
It bothers me too. I can't really give a rational reason why other than it seems to me to make this into some sort of popularity contest which is a concept that I despise.
I don't have a myspace page, I dont have a facebook, for good reason. I'm not 18.
Maybe thats why it bugs me.
I keep having these visions of a Tilla Tequila of BDSM.
That scares the snot out of me.

And Faery, does that mean I have to stop admiring you now?

subtee -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 5:15:01 PM)

I'm not doing the "add friends" thing either. I think for many of the same reasons Kana has mentioned. I don't want to be on a bunch of lists here, there everywhere, and others perving me and/or requesting to "add" me simply by virtue of the fact that they saw me somewhere else and holding that as the only criterion for our "friendship."

I do have a myspace page though...ow.  Does this mean I have to stop admiring YOU now?

Tee hee

Owner4SexSlave -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 5:35:12 PM)

I only have three people on my friends list at the moment, all of whom I know are 100% real and consider as friends.  I have some mixed thoughts on this new feature though.

Well no one is making us use it! just say NO.
MY friends list will never be longer than 5 people, by design.

I  have one friend, he is actually my best friend.  I also have a myspace but there are only a few people that I don't know from elsewhere on it.

Reform -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 6:40:29 PM)

I never liked MySpace for the reason of having a lot of friends on your list. People would send me invites and it was always some random person from far away I'll never talk to. I don't care if other people have huge friends lists, it's just not for me. On CM I have two friends (three profiles though) of a couple that I talk to a lot.

To each His own. [:)]

christine1 -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 6:46:22 PM)

i'm not sure why you think that every friend a person has listed is a mindless butterfly...if you feel that yourself being added in this way would make you one, then by all means, please refrain.

sweetwenchie -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 6:58:35 PM)

i add people to my friends list that i like and admire.  Mostly they are people i have met here on the forums whose insight or humor i appreciate.  Strangers that try to add me i deny.  To me it is not about a popularity contest, it is about friendships.

Honsoku -> RE: MyHornySpace or MyKinkSpace? (2/12/2008 7:09:13 PM)

Personally, I find it just another example of ego masturbation. Stroke your ego enough and you get an egogasm. Be careful not to over do it, lest your id starts growing hair.

I have only gotten two friend requests ever (and only sent out one for that matter). I guess I'm just not friendly enough. Such is the life of not being an attractive woman. [:D]
