MissAidan -> Hugs (2/8/2008 7:18:34 PM)

This question popped in to my head earlier, and I thought I would see what others thought.  What does a hug mean to you?  Does it mean something different if its a friend as opposed to family member or S.O?  Is it different if its in a D/s context?  Ok, so I like poking around in other peoples heads. *poke poke*

GreedyTop -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 7:25:49 PM)

hugs .. wow.. the best medicine :)
Hugs, to me, are for expressing my pleasure at seeing someone, expressing my happiness for someone elses good stuff, comforting when things aren't so good.
I don't see any difference between d/s and non d/s when it comes to hugs.

TracyTaken -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 7:26:45 PM)

Not to me.  A hug is a hug, whether it's from my husband, my kids or a friend.

Nineveh -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 7:26:55 PM)

I think D/s, especcially extreme D/s calls for a lot of hugs, at the right time.

MissAidan -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 7:26:55 PM)

Hugs and laughter are definately the best medicine, especially when combined.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 7:39:38 PM)

Well it can mean a recognition of social closeness, but not any actual intimacy.  It can mean a reconnection with someone very intimate.  Or it can be a loving embrace.

MaamJay -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 7:43:19 PM)

I have been called Miss Huggy or Queen of Hugs in the past ... I love hugs! All kinds! It's something that comes very naturally to Me, I love that human contact. They are incredibly healing, and, I think, quite essential for good human relationships. I'll illustrate from experience:

Some years ago, I had a platonic male friend whom I very much enjoyed talking with. He was the sort of person you could solve the world's problems with in a night! He had been raised in a strict English household where bodily contact of any kind was frowned upon, where you called your father Sir, where after about the age of 2 you didn't get a goodnight kiss ... and where he learned that black, white and grey were the only appropriate colours for male clothing! He was the first person to recoil from My hugs and that hurt Me, but out of respect, I pulled back for a while. Over time, we began to talk in a more open and personal level, and one time he confided that although he attracted girls (he was good looking and had a rich plummy voice!) ... he couldn't keep them beyond a date or 2. So I asked him "do you touch them at all?" He recoiled in shock and horror and said "NO! Of course not!" so then I had to explain a bit about good touch and the connection of human contact! It took a while ... and a fair bit of observation of others on his part ... then finally he asked Me to teach him how to hug. What a precious trust! And a delightful task. Even a side to side hug was too threatening at first, so I started with hand touching, then hand holding. Progressed to holding his arm while walking (yes, we were walking up and down his hallway LOL!) and finally made it to a side to side hug! Red letter day! Over time, and with the added help from my huggy girlfriend (the 3 of us were a singing trio for a while), we finally made it to full on bear hugs. Just in time too, for it was then he met the girl of his dreams ... and guess what! They're still together [:)] He has thanked Me many times for helping him break down those barriers. However, despite my friend buying him red jocks and socks for a few Christmas presents, we never did get him out of the black, white and grey clothes LOL! I heard his partner eventually made it to navy blue ...

Huggsss all round!

I like physical contact.  Hugs can mean a lot of different things to me from different people.  Friendly hugs, hugs of compassion, a half hug (maybe for a job well done) or a tight, I just want to hold you hug or a lover's hug.   Hugs are great.  [:)].

akisha -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 8:38:56 PM)

I love hugs from people i like and care about. Hugs from acquaintances I'm getting better at dealing with. I used to freeze up and sometimes panic when near strangers tried to touch me lol. Now I can accept a hug with grace and return it.

My favorite are the cuddle hugs with my lilbit *S* and the close, hold me snuggled to your chest hugs from my partner *S*  Both make me feel extremely loved and cherished and safe.

nwcutie102 -> RE: Hugs (2/8/2008 8:47:59 PM)

a hug to me is platonic... nice yes, but strictly platonic

canupleaseme -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 12:28:19 AM)

I think it depends who I am hugging. Ive always given my friends a hug when we have spent time together and its just a habit we got into.  I hug my um and its special and makes us feel good.  At night in bed I have a position me and my boy lie in and we hug tilll I go to sleep because it calms me and makes me feel lovely Its what I spent my evenings looking forward too [:)]
I think a hug can mean anything it depends why your doing it.

DaddyAndCarina -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 12:32:25 AM)

I am a hugger..a toucher too and for the most part it is  something I feel people need alot of times ... But when HE hugs me it almost feels as tho it engulfs me making me one with him it is usually what sets me totaly into the place I need to be

Justme696 -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 2:55:04 AM)

With out a hug a friend is not a friend..a lover not a lover.
It is bonding for me..comfort...pressing heart against heart.

ProlificNeeds -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 2:59:57 AM)

Hugging is just 'feel good' all over. No better way to both give and receive comfort at the same time. I generally associate hugging with platonic affection. Of course if there's a grope during the hug then it can be more. Even with a lover though, a hug is more 'comfort' than it is anything else.

Human beings are social animals and as such need not just the company of other humans but also touch.  We may hug as a greeting because we want to establish a connection of one kind or another.  Shaking hands, in ancient times was a way for strangers (possibly enemies) to touch to greet, while a hug shows a welcome more than a greeting, in my opinion.  i feel the need to hug those i love and those i like and those i wish to welcome into my life.  A hug is an asexual act of intimacy.  When my grandson runs up to me and hugs me with all his strength, he in that one act communicates his strong familial love for me.  Good stuff!

Cyis75 -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 6:23:55 AM)

I'm a hugger... I'm more apt to be hugging a friend when we meet than shaking hands. It's social interaction and when you really need it the best medicine that money can't buy.

adoracat -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 7:10:19 AM)

one of my friends once described me as "more in need of petting than any other three people combined!"

and its still true.  i married a man who is NOT touchy at all.  my children still are touchy, and that's good.  me, i end up starving from skin hunger, the need to touch and be touched.

for me a hug is:  demonstration of affection, comfort to myself or others, a way to re-connect, and just a need.

i'm with you adoracat...i love physical contact.  i recently had a date and he couldn't keep his hands out of my hair, it made me realize how long i've gone without that kind of touching and how comforting it is.  it's incredible to me the effect it has.

Akisha > i can so relate to the  aquintance thing , and even strangers .It used to be a Very uneasy feeling at best .It was not until my  mid 30's  that i started getting  hugs .Sure i got them  prior but a very rare thing  to get maybe one or two a year was a busy year .I now take and give them when and where i can .If enjoyable it seems like i never wish to break the bond , if creepy  the bond and embrase can not be broken fast enough ..

christine . your dating ??i thought you were waiting  for me  pouts ..

KatyLied -> RE: Hugs (2/9/2008 8:01:14 AM)

A hug can mean many things.  I don't give much thought to any special underlying meaning that it holds, other than one of affection toward the other person.
