Vampyrefledgling -> RE: Have you Brits never read 1984? (1/31/2008 3:49:37 PM)

CCTV is completely different in the UK than any sort of security camera in the States. The Brits can track you from the moment you step out of your flat until you come back again. They can almost follow you during your daily routine depending on where you live (in the city, country, etc). Americans are very concerned about privacy in the public domain, yet our government listens in on personal phone conversations whenever they please. I would rather be viewed in public at all times via camera then have to give up my privacy. Due respect, NorthernGent, some Americans swear loyalty to a piece of paper and a flag? Really, seems as simplistic as saying the Brits swear fealty to a crown. It's not that simple and while some of us are not the brightest crayons in the box, others are loyal to the ideals that flag symbolizes and know more about that piece of paper than you might think. ~Fledgling As for Orwell and his book
