Think it is a given that the Democrat will retake the White House? Dems might not want to get cocky just yet.

A recently released Rasmussen poll shows that if John McCain pulls off a win in the GOP primary he would easily be the front runner against Obama or Hillary.

McCain leads Hillary Clinton by 8 points (48% to 40%) and leads Barak Obama by 6 points (47% to 41%).

With McCain you are dealing with a likability factor. The polls consistantly show McCain is very popular among independent and moderate voters. That is a voting bloc the Democrats have been trying to court very hard since 2006.

McCain is the last person the Democrats want to face. Obama and Hillary beats every other Republican....some by very large numbers. Hillary would beat Romney by 16 points in the Wall Street Journal poll for example.

They must think he is some sort of threat, since the 'Swiftboating' of his Vietnam service has already begun.

Why shouldn't they feel "cocky"? If Senator McCain fronts the Republican ticket, they'll have a 'Democrat' in the White House regardless. Senator McCain, as represented on his policy regarding criminal amnesty, financially limiting access to the electoral process; is a more traditional Democrat than either Senators Clinton or Obama. In some ways Senators Clinton and Obama represent 'Republican' trademarks when you look at their financial backers and personal business history. Have any of you managed to turn $1,000 into $6,300 overnight and ultimately $100,000 in 10 months? Senator Clinton did. Sometimes she didn't even have to invest - other people decided to shift some money over to her to skip the 'risky' investment part of the transaction. (Source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/whitewater/stories/wwtr940527.htm ) But that was long ago and enough of the US citizenry has been "left behind" in Senator Clinton's "village" and wouldn't understand the implications even if they could read.

Then there are Senator Clinton's close Corporate ties, Walmart for instance, and PAC affiliations. Richard Nixon would be jealous of those roots with 'deep pockets',  as well as her predilection to 'dirty' tactics and direct attacks on her opponents from close political ties. Imagine what she can do once given access and the ability to direct IRS investigations!

Today - My support leans toward Senator Obama.

Owner,
It doesn't bother me at all that you and I are in tacit agreement regarding the candidates. However, supporting the same candidate as Senator Kennedy REALLY concerns me!

Speaking of which, how is it that NOW calls his support for Senator Clinton as an "ultimate betrayal"? Would backing Senator Clinton been viewed as the "ultimate betrayal" toward blacks by the NAACP?

quote:

Women have just experienced the ultimate betrayal. Senator Kennedy’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic presidential primary campaign has really hit women hard. Women have forgiven Kennedy, stuck up for him, stood by him, hushed the fact that he was late in his support of Title IX, the ERA, the Family Leave and Medical Act to name a few. Women have buried their anger that his support for the compromises in No Child Left Behind and the Medicare bogus drug benefit brought us the passage of these flawed bills. We have thanked him for his ardent support of many civil rights bills, BUT women are always waiting in the wings.

And now the greatest betrayal! We are repaid with his abandonment! He’s picked the new guy over us. He’s joined the list of progressive white men who can’t or won’t handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton (they will of course say they support a woman president, just not “this” one).

I'm an independant  voter and I'd never vote for Mad Dog McCain.
He's Ted Kennedy's sock puppet.
And you know that if he gets in we WILL go to war with Iran and there'll be a draft again because they'll need it!
"One Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest" McCain will get us into some *Serious* trouble!

You do know that McCain wants to expand America's military and invade Iran, right? You are OK with that?

Sure he may have a few liberal ideas domestically...but he is terrible with the economy and his foreign policy is even more radical than Bush's.

Unless we see intervention in the form of Bloomberg / Paul cannibalizing ''The lesser of two evils'' GOP/Independent voting bloc through independent runs, the poll you've cited will indeed play out to be true. I'd a bet a whole lota cash on it, matter of fact. Sad but true.

Anyways.....here's a quick blurb from Buchanan and Scarborogh on that fruit-loop from the Grand Canyon state.

Out of everyone still in the race still on both sides, including 'fringe' candidates like Paul and Gravel, McCain is the LAST person I would like to see in the white house.

Beyond virtually all his policy's being bad for this country right now they are rumors of his health failing as well. It seems he only wants to be elected to prove he can be elected.

I can see not wanting McCain or any given candidate in the White House, but why base one's preference on rumors?

And he's been a heavy drinker all his life too.
He hangs around Ted Kennedy!
Just what we need, a drunken hot head with an uncontrollable temper near "the buttons!"
This guy scares me.

Well said, Alum.  I'm sure it will be ok though.  Attacking a guy who spent less than 5 months in country is abominable, but going after one who spent more than 5 years in a POW cell is dignified and above board.

They might want to start stocking up on bbq sauce now, to help eat those words.

Anybody remember who the national Repulican front runner was two months ago?

This is why I don't care much for polls.

Interesting for McCain to win since he's the most liberal of them all. But regardless of thoughts, beliefs, and past actions, perhaps the USA is being conservitive keeping an old white guy as president.

Isn't McCain now 72 years old? Let's see who is running mate is going to be. If the running mate really good, I guess I would vote for McCain. After all, his running mate might become president sooner than we think.

McCain is 72 and people want to give him The Button? My Father In-Law is 72 and we don't allow him to have the TV Remote. He still get's confused with his Bank Card when asked "Credit or Debit?" And we still have to help him program his cell phone. I hold my elders in the dearest respect but I have to admit that there comes a time when some are better off as an advisor rather than the leader.

Heretic, it is not disgusting, it is good to have these attacks on him now.  I thought the site looked childish and of the caliber of a 911 or illuminati page.  Republican candidates need to get savage attacks durring the primary, its makes them stronger.  If McCain can't fend off attacks like that he is not qualified to be president.  And I am pretty much in favor of the guy, he ain't a bible thumper and wants to kill terrorists, everything else is icing.
