Who the hell at the IRS is blowing Dubbya?

I am soo freaking ticked off I could spit nails.

http://www.hrc.org/issues/workplace/benefits/4820.htm
http://www.hrc.org/laws_and_elections/5671.htm

I have always had insurance on my "Domestic Partner" ~ I paid extra in taxes for her to have the insurance. Those taxes got passed onto me After tax.. not pre tax like it does for my son and I. Unfair.. and I pay extra.. but it wasnt a *huge* amount so I didnt bitch too loudly. Just another thing I have to deal with in being unequal in the eyes of the law.

Now as of Jan 1. ( gods why the hell didnt I notice it last paycheck) I am now not only paying extra on her deductable post tax... but what my company pays for her insurance is now seen as Income and also taxed, then removed out of my paycheck on top of being taxed extra on her part of the premiums. It also increases my over all taxes.

I am now having to post an extra $222 twice a month have it removed~ be taxed on it plus the premiums.

With the amount that is.. it puts me into a new tax bracket.. I was teetering on the edge anyways.

After Taxes and my insurance deductions I am only now taking home about 60% of my paycheck.

Now mind you I am very happy that my company is forward thinking enough to even bother giving us benifits, and being inclusive. I am openly "out" at work. I have been since 2000.

However.... Companies are not made or given the ok by the govt to do this to hetrosexual married couples... they have tax protections. Why the hell are Domestic Partners being treated differently? Why are Domestic Partners ( Which is all we can be in many states~ and not even that legaly.. just in "language") penalized monitarily because they are not a Hetrosexual Married couple?

How on Gods green earth are Domestic couples supposed to care for a family if between govt and insurance premiums your checks are 40% lighter suddenly?

I don't want extra rights.. ( like so many who are against giving any rights to the GLBT crowd) I just want equal rights.. and the abilty to support my family with out feeling screwed because I am not conforming.

Looks like my little housewife is gonna have to get booted out into the cold cruel world to get a job and some OT for me.

Gwyn,

Who is even more disappointed in her country and govt right now.

Where in the IRS regs does it say that companies are required to only deduct this for gay dependents?

The point is that this is God's green Earth, and the likes of us (aka the spawn of Satan) should be grateful enough we're permitted to remain at liberty to work hard and contribute taxes towards repairing the social evils for which we're (of course) responsible. Unless its unmarried mothers, immigrants or ethnic minorities held responsible this week.

There is no justification for the way traditional married couples are treated compared to nontraditional couples - apart from the Bible, the religion it looks to and the background social influence it holds. And this is odd, since in the US the state is separated from religion and in the UK we hold that all religions are equal under our multi-cultural system.

I feel for you dear.  The anti-gay marriage/ domestic partnership/ whatever you want to call it freaks have really given same sex couples the shaft and I think it's total bull shit.  I don't care what you call it, but I think you're entitled to the same consideration under the law.

On a related note.....I just finished my taxes last night.  EXTREMELY simple this year but I did have to itemize for a few items.

Still took me 5 freaking hours using Turbo Tax.  It is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah. I cant tell if gay is a step up from illegal alien.  At times it is lower.  Counties that briefly tried gay marriage- the Social Security office flags those geographic payees.

`I didn't even realize you were gay, Gwyn...shows how much I pay attention!
I went to your first link and read this...

quote:

The only exception is when a domestic partner qualifies as a dependent of the employee under IRS definitions.

Then I went here  to see who qualifies as a dependent.  Apparently it is legal/blood children and legal/blood relatives  And in the case of divorce, any return with both sides claiming the same dependants (most often shared custody kids) will be audited.
So unless you are legally claiming your partner as a dependent on your income tax return, she does not qualify.  But neither does any heterosexual live-in relationship partner.  I seriously doubt that this is a move to provide more angst for the GLBT population.  It is a tiny percentage of the total.
Lots of het couples live together and they are in the same boat.  It is just another way to take away a loophole and force more auto deductions.  When it was passed why it was passed, *shrug* ????????
Go ahead and be as mad as you can be.  We are all mad as hell.  It is a bad system and it gets worse with every year.  It's not just about you...
Who's for any kind of idea for a Fair Tax now?

*chuckles* yeah.. I am soooo under the radar most times.. is ok.. I hadnt the foggiest Pahunkboy was either until recently ( and he is a health nut too! how cool).. LOL Not that it matters.. but it is cool to see who is "family" sometimes.

well as for a % we are reported at least 10% of the population... that varies on who ya talk to.. some say less.. some say up to %15.. and of course it is subjective because of "outing" yourself.

Any one in the advertising or Media business knows that per capita GLBT households are a gold mine money wise.

Average yearly household income:1
Whites: $49,453
Blacks: $30,939
Hispanics: $36,278
Asians: $60,367
source: U.S Census Bureau, 2005 community survey
Gays: $83,000
Lesbians: $80,000
source: by Rivendell Media, and sponsored by Absolut

http://www.mediabuyerplanner.com/2007/08/15/gays-lesbians-earn-far-more-than-media-us-household-income/

Logo has Big sponsors for a reason... ( holy hell do those guys know how to throw a party.. whoo boy!)

So in my mind.. knowing these figures from trying very hard to hit the GLBT segments in media ( old job ) it is damn smart of the govt to get in on the cash cow. Who the hell are going to stand up for the Gays once they have been so demonized? I mean com'on one of the forefront Republicans running for office Mike Huckabee equated homosexuality to pediphila and beastiality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFwt3csABJU
Does any one actualy listen to the news? *chuckles*

It kinda adds up when I think about it. Feels like it is just the begining of something very very bad.

Gwyn

Wow that is awesome. Sexual identity and orientaion can be quite fluid things.
~ It certainly keeps life interesting.

I came very close to tieing the knot with my best gay pal Jeremy.. but when I got to thinking about it I changed my mind. He was waaay too much of a party animal for me.. even when both of us were young.. and I wanted to keep my options open and not feel I had to conform to marrying a guy.. any guy.. just because it was expected.

I have my girl.. and male subs. I am not a gold star by any means... I have explored. But it is very very rare. I would prob. prefer a harem of females honestly but I am not sure my sanity would hold up firstly.. and my lovely Cuban wife would kill every single last one.. then me. Males she is fine with.. I could have a conga line into the next state for all she cares. One other female.. holy shit I am dead. LOL

I do tease her with the girl who has a massive crush on me at work to keep her on her toes.. but I know better.

My Shane days are over.

Gwyn

I think the GLBT households should group together and marry each other when they have medical needs and they could get around all this crasp. Hey an anullment would be way cheaper that medical bills and you could get the medical attension you need and deserve. Just a thought of getting around the laws and getting you your just care.

I fully agree with you Gwyn.  For me, it's not so much an issue of you not receiving the 'same' tax benefits as heterosexual married couples; it's that EVERYONE is being taxed too heavily, and that 'breaks' are used as social engineering tools.

Go Flat Tax!!  No more special people!

Another vote for all insurance premiums regardless of source being taxed the same way.
Make all premiums deductable and it serves two very valid purposes, eliminates the problem non married couples insuring their partners, and increases the number of people who will be able to afford insurance. Thus reducing the number of uninsured around the nation.

This is neither legal advice, and I make no claims of it's appropriateness, but I'm putting it out here for discussion.

Form a LLC, hire your "Partner", and get group health through the Chamber of Commerce's program, insuring each of yourselves as appropriate... ( Single, Single + 1 Adult, whatever the carrier allows and is the right price... )

True, but it hits the same-sex couples harder because they generally don't have the option of getting married to "get around" the increased cost (if they have the option at all... not sure where the laws currently stand). So, if you're in a relationship where you would be married were it not for the law, it's just one more slap in the face.

It's disgraceful.  All that this does is cause more people to go uninsured, who might otherwise be able to afford it for themselves and their domestic partners.  And although it does affect both gay and straight domestic partnerships, those who made this know full well who they're effecting with this deterrent of higher costs: unmarried hetero couples and gay couples.
