Seeing all the different forum sections on here is nice but it would be equally nice to see a section on the forum for Gays/Lesbians. Most of the sections here, while open to all are mostly geared towards straight people or bisexual people so it would be nice to have one lil section for those who identify with the Gay or Lesbian title. Just my thoughts thats all....thought id share

see i disagree...as a bisexual i think bisexuality is discussed just because we bring it up in relation to other things like being switch or being poly. not that i wouldn't like to see a queer forum just that i would want it wider than just l/g...though then i've had to deal with communities where while it may say LGBT the B and T are forced into silence (or ther are serious attempts at it anyway) and that makes me sort of jumpy since we get so little exposure to begin with.

i used to frequent glbt sites..but wow..the bitching that happens between GL  and BT... i just couldnt handle it anymore.... it may even become 2 separate communities if this keeps up.  going to pride isnt fun anymore either.

I have always had such a hard time with that... we are already "on the outside" folks.. do we really need to segregate in our own group? Yikes...

The whole "well you arent really Queer if you are Bi" or all of folks baggage about transgendered people. geeezus. Just get along play nice.. and dont pick your nose.

I would love to see a GLBT forum here personaly.... I think it would be nice. There are folks who I banter back and forth with on the board that I never knew they were "Family" until I perved thier profile.. or it popped up. Not that it matters much.. But I like to have a comraderie with "Family" It would be nice to be able to vent about some crap that we go through that is specific to us. I wish we had forum mods for each section who dealt with that part of the lifestyle a lot. I think it would help keep the flow going easier.. and in this case.. it would keep any of the groups from feeling ostrized.

Oh boy.

I have to disagree, for a couple of different reasons. First of all, in these discussions it does not matter if I am addressing a homo or hetero oriented person, unless it is on a personal basis, like to hook up.

When you come to a site named collarme dot com, I think there would be at least a hint of BDSM, seems logical. Well Gays, Lesbians and Straights practice these things. We are all treated equally here.

And over the years of participating you learn, you find that relationships are relationships, we all have similar problems. If you are a Lesbian, I do not have to be one to give you advice, and vice versa.

We got X amount of homosexuals here, would you really want to spilt off into a splinter group like that ? I think most would not.

Gwyn, I was thinking the same thing....I think it would just seperate us more, and I don't think that would benefit anyone....this way we can learn from each other whether we like it or not

The only part of the existing forums that is 'geared toward' straights is possibly the Goreans.

And there is no 'left handed' forum, or 'military veterans' forum, or 'Mensa forum', or 'income over 100K' forum either.

Could it be that this is a place to discuss a shared interest, instead of fomenting exclusionism?

I understand what others think that it would separate more.. But like summerblossom I do not think a totaly new side.. just a small little forum. There are so many issues that arise with being gay, les, bi, or transgendered in the community and in general that it would be a nice thing to be able to have a place to go rant and get it out.. instead of making a new basic thread each time in a general area where you hope GLBT folk will find it to weigh in on it.
personaly I wouldnt use it for day to day posts.. just crap that happens to me or my family because I happen to be in the GLBT grouping. Just like any one *can* go into the Gorean section and post.. ok.. bad example... *chuckles*

Ok.. just as anyone can go into the Ask a _ section and post it would be the same.

Just a thought...

We dont want to divide off from the rest.. or be all to ourselves.. just a nice little spot to rant about our experiances would be good.

It is hard to imagine all the crap that happens even on a day to day basis currently with being GLBT.... I have tried to explain a portion of it to my Cuban Mother-in-Law (from hell) who thinks all Gay people including her daughter and I are going to burn in hell.

People don't need their own special forrum to do that. They can rant about those issues in any forrum, already.

just to play devil's advocate, then why isn't it just one big forum and not little rooms in the forum if you can post anything anywhere? why do we have a gorean section and a master section and whatnot? if the idea is we can post anything anywhere why have subsections in the first  place?

Speaking as someone who is usually in the majority - white, middle class, soccer mom, blah, blah blah ... I hate it when forums (not this one, but others as well) break off into separate little groups.  I enjoy reading opinions from people from all walks of life.  It's how I learn and open my mind to new thoughts.  Rant away on a topic from the 'lesbian perspective' or whatever perspective you have.  It's good for the world to be open, I think.  And if there's a topic that relates solely to being gay or lesbian or whatever ... so be it.  I'll read it too!

Just my .02 cents.

I like us all lumped together.  No separation.  Why?  I'll tell ya why.....

Cause I love it when a hetero, homophobic, Dominant is given some great advice by a gay/lesbian Dominant, not knowing their sexual preference. Liking the advice they thank them and have a great discussion with them.  Then, find out later they are gay/lesbian.  I would pay anthing to be a fly on the wall when the discovery is made.  Maybe it just might change things a little at a time.
If there were a separate forum, it only gives those with homophobic tendencies to have "closed ears" and ammunition for personal attack.  Nothing changs until something changes.
And, I seem to think the "back door" approach works best.  (no pun intended...LOL)

It's my thoughts that would be a very bad idea as it sets us up for further segregation from the general populace. All the time I've been a member of CM, I haven't had any serious negative reactions about my sexuality and I am open in regards to this. They way I see it, most issues which the GLBT face in a D/s relationship also occur in a hetero D/s relationship.
And to expound on MistressVnus, the open forums would also safe check any gay members from adpting a reverse prejudice towards our hetero counterparts.

Cause collarme owners set it up that way, but there's no rules against any one posting any old where you want. As long as you're not posting to start flames or derail someone's post you think is stupid. Subs post on the domme boards, Some Doms post on the submissives board, non gors post on the gor board ect ect,

This is Darcy

I personally don't think there would be anything to gain from a separate GLBT forum (or any combinations thereof). If anything, as has been noted, it would restrict thoughts and discussions to a small group of people, when in reality I believe that the more opinions and points of view on a problem/observation/question, the better.

I think that it is useful to have the current forums, as the whole ethos of the BDSM community (agh, that word ) revolves around the Master/Mistress/Switch/Submissive/Slave dynamics, irrespective of gender or sexuality.

I personally don't know the sexual orientation of, to be honest, most of the posters on here, but it makes no difference. If you have a valid point or something interesting to say then I'm going to be interested in you as a person, not how and who you choose to make whoopee with.

I do understand the problems and hassles that society presents GLBT people with, as I have friends in each of these categories, but they're my friends because I like hanging out with them or talking to them, not because they're GLBT or whatever.

The danger of having a separate  forum is that there is further segregation, and thus isolation. There's no reason why any of the issues that arise as a GLBT individual cannot be raised in forums as the 'straight' issues are. You may even get useful input from a 'straight' responder that may have been lost if the issue was confined to a dedicated GLBT forum.

Just my 1.05 pence.

Without agreeing or disagreeing with any of the points raised, would you all say the same if instead of LGBT, another minority asked the same question? I always find that a useful litmus test.
