That's it...is it possible or does being "in love" just run it's course?

breatheasone -> RE: Can you fall back in love? (1/27/2008 3:18:34 PM)

Its possible....IF both parties are will to do whatever it takes ...for as long as it takes....yes...its possible.

I like to think so too...I...well, I just hope so.

CalifChick -> RE: Can you fall back in love? (1/27/2008 3:20:08 PM)

The proliferation of "rekindling your love" seminars and the happy people that recommend them would seem to point to the idea that it is possible to do so.

It probably depends on why people have fallen out of love.  And what has transpired since that point.  Sometimes people grow apart, change, and move on, with no intention of wanting to go back to the way things were.

That's true enough...nothing has happened that can't be undone. I suppose, that's the best thing that can be said about the whole thing.

For me, no - not after the respect has gone ... for me, love and respect goes hand in glove.

Raechard -> RE: Can you fall back in love? (1/27/2008 3:31:43 PM)

Not sure.

There are different stages of love and I think a lot of people that get back together do it out of fear for the risk of being alone. It is hard to recreate that which they had at the very beginning but that is only 5% of the reason for being with someone anyway.

If people can find that which first attracted them to a person, if they can appreciate all that each party has previously done for one another or perceive them as willing to do more for one another in the future then maybe.

Anything is possible I suppose.

If people go into things thinking that they want it back the way things were, they are likely to fail.
Sometimes you grow apart, change, and find the place you have landed will work for you both.
Things do not have to be the same, sometimes they can be better.

I don't want that to be me...

Love doesn’t work that way for me. I think it is extremely rare to “fall out of love”; that any time I may feel this has happened, I never really loved the person in the first place.

As far as rekindling the spark of lust, sure; however, I find it is seldom wise to do so.

The real question is- will the relationship be fulfilling in the way you want it to be, or will it be a repeat of what happened before?

Love isn't what makes a relationship work.

You're right, but love is what makes a relationship fulfilling for me...not just love, but being "in love"...as nebulous as that concept is.

Does love make the relationship fulfilling, or does the relationship being fulfilling, result in love?

Nice new pic!  It's never been possible for me once the spark is gone to get back that feeling of devotion.  I don't mean love.  I really haven't ever stopped loving anyone that I loved personally.  I mean the feeling of wanting their opinion first, of wanting to share good/bad news with them first, of appreciating even the silence or down times, of anticipating what they are going to say, of being interested in even the mundane things they have to say that would be totally annoying coming from someone else, of feeling excited knowing they just walked in the door even though they've walked through that same door so many times before.  I babble, you get the idea....if that is what "in love" is as opposed to loving someone (which you can do platonically also), I have never personally found a way to get that back.  I hope you can.

sweetwenchie -> RE: Can you fall back in love? (1/27/2008 5:30:28 PM)

speaking only for myself, i think it is far easier to fall back into lust than love.  i've only tried once or twice, but found that for me, once the love is truly dead, i do not wish to try and somehow revive it.  There were reasons it died in the first place.

fluffyswitch -> RE: Can you fall back in love? (1/27/2008 5:35:01 PM)

for me--i'm always in a state of flux when it comes to my emotional attachment to someone. sometimes i can't stand to be around them and other times i have to be near them to be happy. so i tend to cycle in and out of love even with my partner. but i agree it depends on why i stopped loving them in teh first place.
