Doesn't sound safe there.  Move.

sophia37 -> RE: slayings in my town, :-( (1/19/2008 1:09:11 PM)

The usual. They knew each other. Just stay clear of those type "friends" and you should be ok.

popeye1250 -> RE: slayings in my town, :-( (1/19/2008 1:10:16 PM)

Funny, one of my Navy buddies is from Sunbury, Pa.
I don't think he lives there anymore though.

Check the record if you want- this is unusual for this town. Yes there are episodes of crime, where do you go??

I wont run. I never have and never will.  But nor will I leave doors open late night etc.

Crime is everywhere. You cant escape it.

We send our share of bad boys to state prison. Usually it is a fight over a girl or drug deal.

We have a young viral police department.  Now that I am middle aged and own

my home- I pay their asalary....

It is an average small town, nothing noteworthy of it- which in itself is neat. Many leave as jobs here suck.  A good many return once they see the grass isnt greener elsewhere. The Edison Hotel was 1st to have electric- it is a dive. LOL.

Be brave, but this is how it starts.

I dont scare easily... I lived near Cabrinni Green, and Logan Square Chicago. I had bullets fly thru my window. I fleed there.  I had the shirt on my back and not much more.

I will keep my eye open tho- your point is well taken. Thanks.

Gwynvyd -> RE: slayings in my town, :-( (1/19/2008 1:26:40 PM)

Moving wont help in this case.. there are unstable jackasses everywhere. Just know your friends really well... Jeez. It wasnt a serial killer stalking people.. but someone they knew, and had invited into thier home.

prob. a love triangle gone wrong or some such nonesense.

Most homicides are committed by the nearest and dearest.

I think the press called it a slaying to sensationalize it.. It is tradgic and sad.. but technicaly it is just a double homicide. You dont get to a slaying level until you involve a whole house of people or at least a more hands on aproach.

What I am wondering is why didnt the friend call the police when the guy came back agitated, and shot the girl? Personaly I would have ran the hell out of there with my cell and called 911. He had a sawed off shot gun, that makes one hell of a boom, so not hearing it is out of the question They were all downstairs The guy chased the vic up stairs shot her some more, then came back down for the guy. I am not going to sit my ass on the couch and watch people get shot at personaly.

What can a person do?   OK- I can personally paint over any graphitti in my block radious.

pahunkboy -> RE: slayings in my town, :-( (1/19/2008 1:38:54 PM)

Thinking on it- I dont want to get too cocky.  I do know my neighbors.  They would say something if thgings did not look right- as would I.  I lived in places I had no idea who the neighbors were.  The northside of town has been ruff..historically. The public housing project is there....

Never say never. Across the river. Arthur Beachy- Amish owner of auction barn was murdered and multilated.  Very sick.  They cut off his penis and stuffed it in his mouth.  He was a nice guy....he broke with the Amish...such a shame.

Oh have you opened up the can o worms.. *big bright smile* *cracks her knuckles*

You can always join, or start a Neighborhood watch program. Before any of you whiner/wankers out there bemoan that they do not work.. yes they do! Not over night of course not.. Grandma Willis can not be given a AK-47 to blow the lil punk ass Mofo's away but it does begin working over time. It is better then giving up, and letting the bastards win.

Here are some links:  http://www.usaonwatch.org/  National Sherrifs
http://www.nnwi.org/ Nat'l Neighborhood Watch Institue ( for ordering stuff when you get it all together)
http://www.ncpc.org/topics/neighborhood-watch

Every one should check this once a month if they have children, or take care of a child in thier home!
http://www.familywatchdog.us/  It is a sex offender database. Know where they are.

Also map them out for your Neighborhood watch.

Very good check list to have:
http://www.pa-aware.org/resources/pdfs/Checklist%20for%20Neigborhood%20Watch.pdf

http://www.usaonwatch.org/pdfs/WatchManual.pdf

Also get in contact with your local police and sherrifs department. Let them know your interests. Many have community outreach departments.

Go to the your Clerk of Courts website. See if they have anything listed under community policing, or safety. Go to council meetings. Get community safety put on the agenda, and show up to discuss how and why it is important in your community. If your local Govt does not hear from you that you are concerned they do not know to make changes. Make your Council people acountable. They are elected officals. Meet with the Council man or woman of your district. Impress apon them the situation.

We can each do this in our own neighborhoods.

I hope this helps.

Six members of a family (children , parents and grandparents) were slain on Xmas Eve a few miles from us.  Shocked that small community, but at least they caught the murderers, who were relatives of the family.  Too many unstable and angry people on the loose.

Gwynvyd -> RE: slayings in my town, :-( (1/19/2008 2:07:02 PM)

geez.. yeah see now *that* qualifies as a slaying... they bandy about that term too loosely. Holy cow.

The death penalty would be too good for those people that did that to the family. I am continualy amazed by the horrors of the human race.

Also by the beauty at times.. but then shit like that pops up...

Some body had to have seen the signs of them being unstable at some point you'd think right?

Termyn8or -> RE: slayings in my town, :-( (1/19/2008 2:12:59 PM)

The people who got shot, where was their gun ?

I am from a different school than most. Years ago, over a decade actually, I saw a car stop in the middle of the street and four guys ran out into people's driveways. This was late at night and I am not sure why I was up, but I was.

I ran out in the middle of the street and let a shotgun blast go in the air from my twelve guage. Like cockroaches running to the corner, they converged on the car, got in and peeled tires down the road.

A buddy of mine was visiting someone a few streets away, when an altercation happened between he and a group of Black youths. Believe me that is not the word he used, but for the sake of not getting thrown off here, Black youths will suffice. They were throwing rocks at him and his olady. A few minutes later my neighbor and I and another show up in two vehicles. It is dark. The were in hiding but it was gleaned from the "grapevine" that they saw that when this dude calls, people show up, and more importantly, it is not the police.

My buddy Tony P, at an ATM. Now this guy is tough, quite tough. Doesn't really look it, but his background and experience are pretty good. Well the guy says "I'll take that money", Tony says "Got a gun ?", the guy says no, "Got a knife ?" guy says no. Tony beat the living shit out of the would be robber and took HIS wallet. IIRC there was very little or no money in it, but he inconvenienced him. Driver's license, welfare card, hello scissors.

I have been bad, and turned good (I think and hope), and I realize that it's not fair. These are three instances where people who do

More later, company.

Happens all the time but right now I can't compose it. To be continued.

Im glad I asked. I will.  I told the neighbors crime counts on others to see nothing.  Many in my family were forced to move.... it happens. At a certain point tho- one has to arrive.  The jail system here is brutal- but thats good for law and order.  Many trouble makers simply go back to the big city when they see just how it is here.  I love your "can do" attitude.  Thanks so much!!!

I am glad any time I can help. I just hate it when people sit back and whine oh what can I do about XYZ situation when there is almost always something they can do if they get off thier collective asses. You are 100% correct. criminals do count of people to do, and see nothing... people do not "want to get involved" then bemoan why no one saw thier grandma get mugged and didnt stop the SOB.  We can all do something about most situations.. but if you are doing nothing you are usualy contributing to the issues. I am glad you are willing to make an effort and a change. *smiles*

Gwyn,
Who really did like the Neighborhood watch folks when she was a K-9 Officer.

Yes and on the street where i live which i used to walk freely on there were 2 murders just a couple of years ago..  in toronto alone there is 100 on average reported murders per year...there are more non reported ones though.  usually here its non caucasion related drug crimes or young teen killings.
