Now that i've been back on this site more than not lately, i have noticed something in profiles that i am curious about. What i've noticed was that "they" (keeping it somewhat generic) are looking for "sub/slaves". Is it the idea of just not being specific in what you seek, is there no longer a difference in the two, or well... what is it?

Perhaps "they"don't know the difference. Or they don't mind having either a slave or a sub.

Take a look at all the submissive vs slave debates and you'll have your answer.  So many people have so many different ideas and concepts about what each is that there really is no set definition of either anymore... hence the use of more generic terms.  That makes it more important for both submissives and dominants (in the broadest generic sense of the terms) get to know what each expects and is looking for.  Its not a safe assumption that if a "master" is speaking with a "slave" that each has the same concepts of what either is.

If contacted i suppose they have a good talk with the sub/slave to know eachother and the know what way they stand in the lifestyle.
Communication solves questions..or at least reduces them

When someone self-identifies as a "slave", I am fairly certain from the get-go that we are not going to be a match, since I am not into TPE...  but it certainly does help to ask.

Also, I suspect that some folks will take whatever they can get and hope for the best!

Here is an answer to your question... post your definition of both a "slave" and a "submissive", and watch as everyone swarms over it to tell you that they do not agree with your definition.. or do something more pragmatic, search for those threads in the archives and see for yourself how no one knows the difference. If I were a dominant seeking, I wouldn't pay much attention to "slave" or "submissive" on the profile either....I would seek both and then ask the person behind the label what they were seeking in a dominant person. It is so hard to find compatibility for most people, why cut one's options down based on the number of letters that trail the "s" in the label

I think "they" just can't spell and are really looking for slubs and saves..........

Sometimes a slave actually refers to him or herself as a sub instead of a slave and vice versa so it covers all bases to allow the lable not to be the end all be all.

Exactly. I identify myself as a submssive, however I fit what some here would label as a slave. So, I gather that the people that put that in their profile are open to talking to people that identify in either role.

Same here. I was just discussing that issue with a woman who contacted me a few days ago. She listed herself as a slave. When I probed a bit, she really is a submissive, and she said she was going to change her profile to reflect that orientation.

A lot of times, people use sub's/slaves to refer submissive people in general (for applicable traits between them).  However, often times.. I feel like people are vague enough on the words to not realize the great difference between them.

This lifestyle doesn't demand intelligence, after all.  =/

It could also reflect that some people believe the only difference is in the number of letters.

I think it's because they are either keeping themselves open knowing that the specific label is irrelevant and don't want to put anyone off, OR they are just wanting as many options open and will use whatever term their potential prey finds most appealling once they figure it out.

I had a difficult time trying to decide if I should label myself as a sub or a slave. I had more than a few long discussions about this with my master. I ended up calling myself a slave because... um...
My master had a good explanation to why I'm a slave, but I tend to forget all the good explanations he has as soon as I''ve decided that he's right. Which is most of the time. ;)
So, you'd have to ask him.

I wouldn't pay much attention to weather someone is seeking a sub or a slave if I was looking for a relatioship. There's so many definations to the terms and it's hard to know what the other person meens if you don't know them.
