quote:

When I walked into the office Monday, people were clustering around a computer to watch what they thought they would never see: Hillary Clinton with the unmistakable look of tears in her eyes.

A woman gazing at the screen was grimacing, saying it was bad. Three guys watched it over and over, drawn to the “humanized” Hillary. One reporter who covers security issues cringed. “We are at war,” he said. “Is this how she’ll talk to Kim Jong-il?”

Another reporter joked: “That crying really seemed genuine. I’ll bet she spent hours thinking about it beforehand.” He added dryly: “Crying doesn’t usually work in campaigns. Only in relationships."

And then she'll get mad when everyone starts saying that she's playing the female card...which she is by crying like a little girl who lost a game.

Edited to add...tears are for sissies.

Hey there [:D]

I don't know; if she thinks it'll carry her into the White House, she might just start walking around with a box of Kleenex tucked under her arm. [:)]

     how the fuck did George make his guitar gently weep?

    They brought Eric Clapton in to do it for him.

      Could that have been Hillary's double?  Every paranoid ruler needs one after all.

dcnovice -> RE: Hillary's tears (1/9/2008 7:04:18 PM)

Your poll didn't have the option I'd have chosen: Why the fuck is this such a big deal?

George, bless his talented heart, couldn't have polished Clapton's guitar pick. [X(]

dc, it's more a matter of fun that earth-shaking importance. But, seeing the potential leader of our nation being disingenous, in a new and novel way, does matter, IMO. Every little glimpse into their character can help inform a decision.

Do you really think she faked it?

boliver10 -> RE: Hillary's tears (1/9/2008 7:24:19 PM)

SHE FAKED IT!!!!

When will anyone wake up about Hillary?  She is smart and has *some* empathy for people.  But she is completely without the skills/heart to do much for America.  Would we even be talking about her if her husband hadn't been president.  She is also so completely in the pocket of all of the lobby money that she takes.  SHE IS THE STATUS QUO IN WASHINGTON- IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT???

I personally think Obama is better but there are multiple candidates (both democratic and republican) more attractive than her.

And for those of you woman voting for Hillary because she is the first "woman", what did you do for Ferraro back in 1984?  Ferraro was a MUCH more HONEST politician that I supported both financially and spiritually.

Yes, I do.

dcnovice -> RE: Hillary's tears (1/9/2008 7:27:24 PM)

Why? I'm genuinely curious, especially since you don't have a political ax to grind. I haven't seen any footage of the scene.

It doesn't LOOK genuine, nor does it sound genuine, with her steadily working her political talking points while "crying".

Sure, I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

And, I certainly am not trying to say she's the only one being phony; most politicians are. Romney, for instance, makes me cringe.

Thanks for the link, Level. I honestly can't tell, but I can see where you're coming from.

I don't question whether the tears are real or not; however, I doubt they are for the American people.

My thoughts exactly, Im so tired of hearing about it that I leave the TV/radio off. Everyone cries at some point in their life . Even our Leader George Bush does everytime he tries to get an erection he boohoo's his eyes out cuz willy just won't cooperate.

       "Faked" isn't the word I would use.  I'd say there was a conscious decision to bring it out.  She had plenty of real emotion to work with, but I'd wager there was a meeting about Hillary's tears before the first one welled up..

2 reasons:

1. IMO, if the crying was fake (and i believe 100% that it was calculated acting) it's blatant and callous pandering to the Oprah emotions-over-logic crowd, which in a perfect world would have no place in politics.

2. Yes, everyone cries. At times that may be appropriate, or may not. But would you want the Chief Executive and Commander In Chief of the U.S. snivelling during negotiations with world leaders? Can you picture Margaret Thatcher, or JFK, or Harry Truman doing that? How do you think such a weak ploy will play in Iran, or North Korea, or China, or Venezuela?

If you want somebody who will use every superficial sham in the book to get ahead, pick Fred Thompson... he managed to sucker the state of Tennessee with his Good Ol' Boy, red-pickup persona. Leave acting to the professionals.

I suppose if her Southern drawl can conveniently come & go, so can her tears, eh?
