You're right, regardless of anyone's extra-curricular activities, no one deserves to have their world turned upside down by someone whose actions are malicious and designed to cause as much damage as possible. The problem with many people online is that the internet offers them reasonable anonymity should they choose that and hide behind it to excuse anti-social behaviours they would likely not engage if there were personal repercussions. I do hope this lady, instead of crumpling and feeling as if her world has been destroyed, sues him as I'm sure she would have a very good case for doing so, and makes as much positivity from this as possible.

Point is, that the assumption that she must have 'done something' to deserve street level photos of her apartment, harassing phone calls, being reported to the IRS, and being outed to her employer simply doesn't hold water for me.  This guy was clearly one malicious SOB, posting the make and model of her car, hacking into her site and email, and posting in her LJ that she had given men AIDS.

Trust me, nobody deserves this.

She needs to get a lawyer.  i don't understand this level of maliciousness, i wouldn't even do that to an enemy if i was handed the info on a silver platter.  If you have something to protect you simply don't risk it by putting up a of of stuff over the internet. Hope she was good at being a pro domme cause it will probably be her sole source of income from now on.

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: Outed (Revised) (1/10/2008 1:35:19 PM)

im sorry it happened to her, but i have to say it was a chance she took being involved with the education system and being in the (put away the torches) sex business.

at least in the area i am familiar with, everyone working for the school system is subject to certain standards of ethics......and the school boards and tax payers determine what the standard is.  you can be placed on probation or be fired from a school system for much less than being a pro domme and having an adult website.......and we all sign the paperwork every year reminding us of the standard we are held to.

i have friends who work for many different school systems and this is policy at all of them.

edited to add i hope she is able to have the hackers arrested and really really punished, especially in their wallets, and i hope she gets t he money her self.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Outed (Revised) (1/10/2008 2:02:15 PM)

Seeks, I doubt the perpetrators will be arrested. From what I gather (having gone through the links associated with this case), it wasn't just ONE person responsible, it was a group of socially inept script kiddies that spend their entire lives online looking for victims to 'punk'. The blogs submitted by this group are vile, they have zero remorse b/c there are no personal consequences for them. I think this is a lesson for us all regarding the information we put 'out there' for the general public to view.

ottRopesandKnots -> RE: Outed (Revised) (1/11/2008 9:23:08 AM)

I wish this thread wasn't so covert so as not being able to link to more information, and the only information I can get here is word of mouth.  Yeah, it certainly sounds like the individual(s) responsible were jackasses but other than the accusation of hacking the school website they probably haven't broken many laws.

As a former member of the hacking community (80s and 90s) this kind of thing really interests me and I'd love to find out more of the details.  I spent years organizing open meetings for 'hackers' here in Canada's capital, attended many a hacker conference (both open and private), been on the national news and guest hosted a technology focused television program, had discussions with national police agencies from both Canada and the US (along with NCIS), and my University Honours project was on "Computer Intrusion Techniques".  Nope, never been arrested, you can be a hacker and be one of the 'good guys'.

I'll second Stephen's statement that you should be careful what information you make available.  Sadly all too often, having something to hide can be a real problem.  Being a Pro Domme when you're probably supposed to be maintaining 'community standards' is obviously a stupid idea.  While all too often we want to choose one side over the other in any debate, there are many times when both sides can be in the wrong.

Oh yeah, one other thing.  Just as you probably wouldn't antagonize that big mean looking guy at the bar, don't antagonize the hackers.  Follow just one of the mischievous exploits of U4EA:

Bufotenin -> RE: Outed (Revised) (1/11/2008 3:11:24 PM)

It wasn't a 'hacking community', it was a bunch of boards populated by 14-19 year-olds among whom a couple happen to be computer literate. Any retard can run a brute force program. As far as I'm aware everything about her being a teacher is assumption based on a remark she once made.

Honestly, I see this thread as being more about gossip and can't see how it's really of benefit to anyone. It's only going to spur people to search for more info, which will then lead them to the personal details she never wanted (and should not have been) available. I assume the only reason she hasn't written the mods to kindly request that this thread be killed (as she has on many other websites) is because it's vague enough to prevent her from doing so.

Stephann -> RE: Outed (Revised) (1/11/2008 3:32:50 PM)

Bufotenin's right; it wasn't a hacking community group, they were script kiddies.  The info was gleaned from a comment she made about teaching.  Once they learned her real name, it wasn't complicated to find out where she taught as her state has teacher certifications posted online.

Those teaching jobs don’t pay the bills like they used to.[8|]

i see this thread as a reminder of how careful we need to be about giving any personal info out on-line.......not gossip in any way
