Mr Kipling does make exceedingly good cakes!! OK wrong Kipling.....
But it IS  a pretty good statement about being a "good" man.

If a real man means one who is overtly aggressive, competitive, violent, and all of those things that defined the alpha male about 1 million years ago, then I do not wish to be a real man.

thanks,

Why you gotta hate on the Alpha?

Omega

You know I remember revisions to the observations of animals a few years ago that revealed that the alpha males of those groups fathered fewer offspring than the beta males. The alpha had to spend so much time defending his "rights" being so aggressive or protective that he often had little time to mate. So females in the group would turn to other males when the biological needs hit. I recall that they determined this through both observation and genetic testing.

I have not heard of that, but it makes sense.  But then the Beta is usually the Alpha in waiting.

It's been a while since I dared post on here but this really got to me. In one of the answers to a post the person claimed that it took a Real man to be a Dom. What constitutes a REAL man??  After all of this time I may be a fake. Educate me people.

If this is true, I am SOOO screwed.........and not in a good way.

As I recall most of the other males in the group fathered more offspring than the alpha even the male who was lowest in the rankings got some though not nearly as much.

I walked away from that PBS special or whatever it was thinking "damn, animals sure are a lot more complicated than we thought" and I also recall thinking that was cool.

I recall in that same show they looked at a lot of mating habits and found a lot more variety than had normally been reported in past decades. Mating rituals that appeared to be rape now looked like the female had a lot more say/pull, making it easy for the males she wanted and successfully fighting off those she didn't for example.

Oh, and now that I'm remembering it I recall that among orangutans they found older males adopting orphans and even one real rape case where a low ranking, very young male forced a younger female and was shunned by the entire group and had to leave.

Wow, wish I could remember how many years ago this show was on. It was pretty interesting.

I'm totally going astray from the OP but yeah, we are a big all geek household here in so many ways!

You folks are so short sighted....A real man.

Self centered, shallow, equally incapable as unwilling to be empathetic to the needs of others,  He always comes/cums first, doesn't have the time to listen to you complain about the meaningless shit that goes on in your life...Thinks he is brilliant, enjoys your company but knows it would only be enhanced with the addition of another woman, Digs o.p.p....loves to whittle.

Biatches, come to Domiguy.

No more of a geek then I am, though my geekiness manifests itself with the History channel

I think being a "real man" or woman has more to do with the person's personality than their gender. I also think the definition differs from one person to the next.

I know several trans men I'd consider "real" men.

I think what it takes to make a real man is the same as what it takes to be a real person. Personal integrity, honesty, authenticity in their life, etc. etc.

Okay, in looking over this post, I forgot what the OP had to say, but several years ago I recall a commercial about "real men."  And it was to do with fathering a child.  Something along the lines of 'all guys can have sex' but "it takes a REAL man to be a father."  Perhaps that is where this OP is getting her definition.  Real anything requires commitment or something.  Now that I think about it, the commercial does not really define what real men are either.  Lots of serial killers have been fathers.

This sounds like a little plaque that I gave my dad years ago for Father's Day.  It said, "Any man can be a father, it takes a special man to be a Daddy."  [:)]

dreamysubmale -> RE: Dom = real man. (1/10/2008 12:52:42 AM)

Guys vs (real) Men
Men know what they want to be doing five years down the road
Guys are not sure what they want to be doing later tonight

Men wear ties with stripes, shirts with buttons, and shoes with laces
Guys wear high school T-shirts they've actually owned since high school

Men balance their checkbooks
Guys balance their loans so that they never hit up the same buddy twice in a row

Men claim to be feminist but still insist on opening doors, driving, and paying for dinner
Guys claim to be feminists so they can let YOU open doors, drive, and pay for dinner

Men are afraid of becoming their fathers
Guys are afraid of becoming men

Men put you on the phone when their mothers call
Guys pretend you're not there when their moms call

Men start their own businesses
Guys quit their jobs

Men are experts on women's erogenous zones
Guys are experts on their own erogenous zones

And my own definition of a real man is, someone devoted to his wife/mate and family faithfully and fully, a real man embraces the challenge to be a good husband and father. A real man is unafraid of his sexuality, strong (in character) but full of gentleness, self controlling. Someone who’s unashamed to ask questions or seek help if he needs it and puts other peoples needs before his own.
